Bengal Pride

I have never felt this way as a Bengal fan, except maybe after their Super Bowl in 1981. It seems that the Bengals are respected by the NFL and the media, and I get a positive response on the streets by other NFL fans.

I have lived in Atlanta since 1987 and have not got this type of response, even after their Super Bowl run in 1988. That was due to Sam "Wacky" Wyche. He was not respected by the media or fans. Everyone expected him to do or say something embarrassing. And you never knew what type of team would show up. You expected the Bengals to snatch defeat from victory somehow. And they did just that in 1989 and 1990 before falling apart in 1991.

Now people believe the Bengals will be good and stay that way. And everyone loves Marvin Lewis and respects him as a coach. I have bought all three new jerseys and my 2 kids and myself where them together around town. Most of the men make positive comments. Many of the women roll their eyes as to laugh at me for making my kids where the jerseys, but my kids actually are the ones that choose to wear them.

I'm so pumped for the new season and to see them on national TV. I hope this isn't all a dream.

I've got a Bengals shirt and wear it all the time - it's a comfortable shirt and a damn fine one, too. Every time I wear the thing someone makes a comment. Usually it's a surprised "Bengals!?!". I just laugh.

I've also got a Bengals 2004 wall calendar hanging over my work desk. People always comment on it. Occassionally it's childish (Clevelander?) and rude (Baltimoron?) but people seem to be sincerely interested in talking about the Bengals.

It's amazing after all these years.

I live in San Antonio, so with 3 Air Force Bases and Fort Sam Houston, there is a huge amount of fans for all NFL teams in town. When I wear my Bengals jersey around, I still get the odd looks and snickers, however, people are now starting to make comments about, "WHODEY" and how much they like Marvin Lewis as a coach and how they think the Bengals are going to be doing some things soon. We go to a place here called "Fatso's" where there are more fans from all the teams than anywhere I have ever seen and in a room with about 40 Chiefs fans last year, you didn't hear ANY snickers. I was going ape S**T !!! Things are turning around for the better and with a quickness !!!

WHODEY !!!

I cant find Bengals stuff in stores and if I ask for it or go to a sports bar to watch a game, peoiple watch me walk by with their jaws unhinged and scraping the floor...

I wouldn't have it any other way though... everyone who ever had anything stupid to say to me about the Bengals will eat crow eventually, and we will all be in our own personal Bengaldom Heavens... :player: :D :player:

The most amazing thing happened last year when I was back home in Virginia. I walked into a store cause they had at least 6 types of Bengals jerseys and at least two hats. I was stunned. I had always custom ordered my Bengals gear before then. Needless to say I walked out with a jersey (Palmer, and I am sooo glad I didn't get the Dillon one) and a hat. I hadn't seen such a good selection of Bengals gear since I stopped in a sports store in the Cincinnati airport, actually, this was better.

Any other Bengals fans in the Atlanta area? If so, we need to claim a local sportsbar as the home of Atlanta area Bengal's fans. I would be shocked if one already exists. I've seen plenty of Steelers, Dolphins, Jets, Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Vikings, and Packers fans at various sportsbars down here.

I live Surprise, AZ - just outside Phoenix. Okay, so we're competing against the Cardinals. I was at the Cincy/AZ game last year and was amazed by the number of Bengals-clad fans walking around. It was a beautiful site!!

All that said, just about everyone here is from somewhere else. Running into a native Arizonan is about as likely as running into a Bengals' fan!

I hear ya. I've been to several stores asking for gear. They usually have one t-shirt either XXS or XXL - it's buried under 50 Cowboy jerseys, 1000 Packers t-shirts, a Broncos penant, a Cardinals key chain, and a Dale Earnhardt sticker.

My sister sends care packages from Cincy or I'd have nothing. I'll have to check to see if they're on the band wagon or should I say bank wagon.

I'm in Frederick, MD, a suburb of DC. Nothing but skins and ravens fans out here with your token cowboys fans and a few, well, quite a few steelers fans near me(about 30 miles from the PA border. )

Yeah, I've been the brunt of jokes up until last year..... you can tell with the comments how people feel that the ML era has started and things are already turned around with this organization. And when and if the Bengals beat the ravens/skins/steelers this year.......I'm going to be dishin out 12 years of pent up anguish on there arses!!!!!

Damn! You live in a bonified NFL war zone!! When the time comes, don't stop stuffing it up their butts until it starts coming out their ears! That's what we've endured for too long.

Now, thanks to coach Lewis...IT'S PAYBACK TIME BABY!!!!! B)

I live in western New York which is " Bills Country " . I've got a variety of shirts, sweatshirts, and a leather jacket ( which I wear as soon as the first leaf changes ) as well as hats a jersey, etc.

After a few usually good natured barbs, I usually get complimented on Bengals fans sticking by their team. I get really good comments when I go to Rochester, NY because they mostly don't like anything about Buffalo ... including the Bills.

One of my favorite things to do is walk into the local sporting goods stores and in a loud voice say " Where the hell is all the Reds and Bengals stuff ??? " During one of the pre season games we attended in Buffalo, my son ( about 13 at the time ) ranked the sh*t out of one of the vendors for not having any Bengals pennants. Guy finally got fed up and told him to go to Cincinnati if he really wanted one. I laughed my ass off. As to the stores, I'm already seeing "new " Palmers jerseys here. I'm sure Johnsons will show up as well. I still wait to get to Cincy to do serious Bengals and Reds shopping tho.

While there aren't many Bengals fans in Buffalo ( there are quite a few in Rochester, but I don't know why ) there are a Lot of Reds fans. Johnny Bench played for the Buffalo Bisons, and a lot of people followed his career with the Reds after he left here. Same with Sean Casey recently.

They had a poll a few years back in the newspaper to adopt a major league team to root for as the home team of the city, and while the Yankees won handily, the Reds were a strong 2nd.

According to .com, you can find lots of Bengals fans at Jocks & Jills Brookhaven at 4046 Peachtree Road, and at Famous Sports Palace at the Taco Hills Shopping Center.

Does any other Bengalzone users live in other cities other than Cincinnati? What is your experience as a Bengals fan and the new perception from other NFL fans?

San Francisco for the past 8 years and LA before that. Comments used to range from "Bengals suck" to "Bengals?? really?? why??." Got those a lot. Now comments range from "Bengals suck" to "Chad Johnson makes me laugh." Not sure how much an improvement that is, but my skin is thick as a rhino by now. I couldn't give a s*** what you think -- especially if you're wearing some bandwagon Tom Brady jersey (which is inevitably the case). In my mind there's a subtle dignity to running outside the pack -- damn them for catching up.
