walzav29
Someone give me an update. I read that Caldwell blocked JJ well, but I haven't heard about Simpson.
membengal
I think I read some good stuff on Simpson looking smooth on one deep ball and beating a starting corner on Monday. Otherwise, not a lot of chatter that I have seen.
TippCityRick
I watched the highlights on bengals.com and was impressed with Simpson's hands. Made two nice sideline catches. Caldwell looked fine, not imposing in any way. Urretia looks like the second coming of Washington . . . hopefully with a better work ethic. HAPPYJAQ
I don't think the 3rd WR is as important this year as it has been in years past. The Bengals will use the 2 TE set more than they've used since Schoebel was year. I think Utecht will have a great year. That said, I think the offense will have more of an Indianapolis feel to it (especially with the emphasis on the running game) than the old Vikings look, when they lit up the league with 3 WR sets. Although they have not been consistent, I think Simpson and Caldwell will be fine. Simpson will eventually be explosive, as evidenced by his play tonight against the 1st and 2nd team D. Bengals fans will remember how Chad and T.J. (especially T.J.) struggled as rookies to develop in Pro Bowlers, with T.J. on the verge of getting cut multiple times in the early stages of his career. They'll both be fine.
gregstephens
I just got back from the intrasquad scrimmage. Simpson caught a deep ball on a dive for a touchdown. He looked very good. Brandon Johnson was everywhere on defense as well. The defense as playing a lot of eight in the box blitzing packages (thank God) and Johnson was a headache for Chris Perry in the backfield. Perry got a lot of reps and passes. It looks like they are counting on him to step up and make an impact this year, although I didn't think he looked that good, honestly. redsbengalsbucks
From the vids I have seen, they both look like rookies, flashes of talent laden with dumb mistakes/actions. Simpson looks like he can fill Henry's production on deep routes and Caldwell should make an impact in the slot. In a couple of years this combo may be very good.
