Indeed, respect and thanks to all those servicemen from our dearest ally, our service men get a day out in November when the politicians cozy up for a photo before ignoring and underfunding them the other 364 days of the yr. A truly deserved day of recognition. As a feckless civvy the beers are on me if we ever meet.

My college roomie went into the US Navy. He loved all that kind of stuff. He was made for it. Such a shame he had to be discharged through an injury suffered in a mundane household accident a couple of yrs back.

That's good to hear. What do they call that day in England Pidge?

Commonly called Poppy day. Officially Remembrance Sunday. Also a two minute silence at 11 a.m on the 11th Nov, which is actually observed by most. Quite astounding to have London so silent. Apart from Midnight Mass and Easter, it's the only time I drag my heathen backside to church.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone, especially my fellow brothers and sisters who have served in the Armed Forces! I've been in the Air Force for ten years now, and I look forward to at least ten more.......

Where are you stationed Esiason#7?

Any of the troops here have an idea for a Nurse that is wanting to join the military? I have decided to join but I can't decide which one to go into yet. I know I want to be stationed at a Hospital but I can't seem to decide between the Amy Navy and Air Force? Any help??

I can't account for the other services, but the Army, while being able to assign you to a hospital, will only leave you there for so long and then move you to another type of unit for your own progression. For example, I have a good friend of mine who is stationed at Fort Polk right now. He is an RN and works at the hospital on base. However, all personnel working in the hospitals are what they call "PROFIS" or part of the professional filler system. This means, while they are assigned to the hospital, they can be pulled from there and assigned to thier "PROFIS" unit to go on a deployment. My buddy deploys this summer to Iraq as part of a Combat Support Hospital. While this is still a hospital, obviously the situation is far different from the likes of Fort Polk, LA.

Hope that helps...

Being in the service, I would like to give thanks to those that came before me and set the example for me to follow. The veterans of the previous wars and conflicts are now only starting to get recognition for their own sacrifices and struggles in defense of this great country. No one spit at me when I came back from Afghanistan, called me a baby killer, or anything of that nature. To those great men and women, I say THANK YOU !!!
