From what I understand, he has great ability and size....but he's been suspended at least twice if not more at Fresno State, has crashed a car while driving drunk, and has pending criminal proceedings ahead of him for stuff he has ALREADY done

It's also said he is a bit of a prima donna.

I look at this guy as all the worst of Ocho Stinko and Slim15 all rolled up into one.

You don't contribute if you are suspended and/or behind bars, fellas...all you do is tie up roster spot and salary dollars.

It would have been better to pass on making a pick at all than to pick this guy

Yeah, 310 is fine for a 4-3. I mean the Saints run a 3-4 and didn't take Okam. Neither did we so maybe we intend on running a fair bit of 3-4. More than I certainly thought we might. But then Sims is around 310. Head scratcher.

I saw Okam on Footballfutures listed at 320...you have to remember some of these guys still can beef up...and at 6"5" I think he can. That is a frame that can easily hold 330+

Because they believe he's the better player. And frankly, given that the one area this team has been very successful at has been ID'ing talent at DT late in the draft, I'm prepared to trust them on this one.

Underachiever who has the physical tools to be great..Was suspended for the first two games of 2007 for conduct detrimental to the team...Was suspended again in October '07 after he crashed his car into an apartment building and left the scene while driving drunk...Was allowed back on the team after just four weeks but was ultimately dismissed once and for all after being cited for driving with a suspended license....Still has some legal issues to resolve....

Who knows? It's crazy. Yeah, sure we could cut him and ultimately we lose very little if it goes tits up. But then again, why not take a chance on a good character who might contribute on and off the field for a few years?

I was listening to Matt Hasselback on ESPN Radio last week and he was talking about the difference between being a first round or two player vs everyone else.

First rounders: you have to make a huge negative impact to get kicked out. Everyone else: You have to make an equally huge positive impact to get kept on.
