DDOGG Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 They strike again...Browns, ex-Pats receiver Stallworth agree to contractIs this getting old to anyone else. Every off season the Browns go out and spend money and get quality veteran players to help their organization. I know our philosophy is a little different (build through the draft), but when are we ever going to go out and get someone worth a damn. Attempts are getting old, the fans want and deserve results!!!And how are they not over the salary cap??? They sign half a roster of overpaid free agents, but we try to get one and their are "salary cap" issues??? Maybe we should stop franchising bench players with a handful of career starts and start doing something. How do you feel? Quote

They sign half a roster of overpaid free agents, but we try to get one and their are "salary cap" issues??? Maybe we should stop franchising bench players with a handful of career starts and start doing something. How do you feel?Ya know, I was really fired up Friday night after I thought we had Rogers. I'm starting to accept that maybe the denied trade was a blessing. One thing I believe is this, we need a General Manager. Pumpkin isn't getting it done. The difference between the Browns and the Bengals is simple. The Cleveland Browns are an organization that wants to win a championship. The Cincinnati Bengals are an organization that wants to fill seats. The Blackburn and Brown family are very nice people. The league has passed them by. This organization could solve probably all of it's problems by hiring a proven GM. That simple. An experienced GM would have been able to interpret the language in the Rogers contract. An experienced GM wouldn't settle for 2nd rate free agents like we have. An experienced GM does what Phil Savage, Browns GM has done, he builds through the draft AND lands difference maker free agents. The Bengals almost get players. The Bengals are full of excuses year after year; injuries, off field problems, draft busts, we don't have a Defensive scheme, we are trying to build through the draft, we didn't know Willy and Levy would lay down so we let Steinbach go even though he was our best Center.......the list could go on forever. Here's a thought; Dont give any more excuses after losses anymore. Just say we lost again and be done. The fans are tired.More of the same in Bengaland. I'm sure we will be served a heaping plate of hype and fluff by Jeff Hobson ( I mispelled his name intentionally) come draft day resulting in gullible fans selling the place out watching a 5 and 11 football team that will amaze them with the amount of excuses they can come up with as to why we were bad again and how it's no ones fault and we are cursed by the football God's. Mike Brown can't live forever. That what I tell myself every morning when I wake up. Quote
Larry Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Once again, I think there are 1000's right with you... Quote
The UnderDawg Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 *sigh* Those damned Browns, they get every thing from us.*looks left* Oh, wait.......Seriously though, it has shown results especially last year. I see the Browns going 10-6 this year and winning the division. I would see us winning more games, however the schedule is considerably more difficult this year.Oh on a reply to the second post: Phil=God. We love him ere in Cleveland. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I see the Browns going 10-6 this year and winning the division.10-6 to win the division????You've been sniffing some strange butts my friend! Quote
Kazkal Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I see the Browns going 10-6 this year and winning the division.10-6 to win the division????You've been sniffing some strange butts my friend!Um, Steelers won it at 10-6 last year where browns had a 10-6 record and only loss from tiebrakers.Browns have improved more then any AFC North team vs the other teams which only got worse.I say 10-6 and division or better is very realistic for them. Quote
Horsemen Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I'll go with that. 10-6 perhaps better and takes the Div. Sadly gotta hand it to the Browns they're doing what it takes to win and Savage knows what he's doing. Maybe they will reach a superbowl sometime soon. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Things aren't totally hunky-dorey in Turd Town:Quinn says he still wants to start for BrownsCLEVELAND (AP)—Browns quarterback Brady Quinn expects to compete for the starting job despite Derek Anderson’s $24 million, three-year contract.“My whole goal is preparing myself and getting ready to try to take over the starting job and lead this team,” Quinn said Saturday during an appearance at an auto show.Anderson agreed to his new deal Friday, a move that took him off the restricted free-agent market. The contract includes $14.5 million guaranteed.General manager Phil Savage says Anderson is the clear starter entering training camp. Anderson threw 29 TD passes last season and led the Browns to 10 wins.Quinn understands the situation and even applauded Anderson’s signing, but doesn’t plan on carrying a clipboard again. His mind-set is “just competing and try to take this team to the playoffs, something we weren’t able to do last year.”The Browns traded their first-round pick in 2008 for the chance to draft Quinn No. 22 last April. He looked good in preseason after holding out, then spent the final 15 weeks of the regular season as Anderson’s backup and didn’t throw a pass until the finale, when he went 3-for-8 for 45 yards.Coach Romeo Crennel will open camp with Anderson the starter, but maintained competition breeds success.“Both of those guys are going to compete,” he said Saturday at team headquarters in Berea. “And then we’ll see who gives us the best chance.” Quote
The UnderDawg Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Of coarse he wants to start and thats not exactly a bad thing. If he didnt give a s**t we would have 2 unmotivated QBs that have no one to push each other and have no fear of Dorsey. BTW that articles pretty old. Quote
cincy9275 Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 don't worry about cleveland. if there is a team that has bad luck it is the cleveland teams. just look back at history. the drive, the shot, the fumble, the sweep, edgar renteria. some how some way cleveland sports teams will choke. the best thing cleveland has going is king james. hell for that matter all of ohio's team are some how cursed. as a state we have what like 4 championships in what 40 or so years. the reds count for 3 and the buckeyes one. sourceone64 Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 The Brownies seem to be headed in the right direction even if they are getting veteran players that may only be around for a few years. Quoted the other day the Browns were pretty much picked to win the division next year. A lesson from Phil Savage may be in order for us in the near future! Dont rely on building our team from the draft. Carson Palmer needs some serious help on the defense side to keep the scores down. Quote
cincyhokie Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 The Browns were 10-6 last year but only beat one winning team. That was Seattle at home 33-30. The Browns also had the 32nd hardest schedule in the NFL and don't quote me on this, had the 32nd least injuries in the NFL. When the Bengals rolled thru 2005 and beat one winning team on their schedule they were criticized.....but I think it was for good reason. The Browns have to prove that they can beat the Steelers and the other top teams in the AFC before they can crown themselves AFCN champs. Hell, I think they're going to have a hell of time beating the Bengals this year. Our defense will be vastly different and hopefully more healthy.Now....let's look at 2008. Anderson has to produce for them like he did in the first half of 2007. Towards the end of season teams began to figure him out, then we saw his raw performance with the league's elite at the Pro Bowl. I think Anderson will decline this year and the Browns will start off slow. No problem. They have the young talent of Brady Quinn. A good QB but he won't be able to step in and flawlessly lead the team to the AFCN title. The key for them is that Anderson HAS to return to 2007 form. The Browns remind me alot of the 2003 Bengals. That team made some moves came out of nowhere and surprised alot of people. BUT just because a team makes solid progress and has a good year does not mean that they will have an easy path to the division title. The other teams adjust and make moves to match the good teams in the division. BTW...the Browns made some great moves in FA so far and have called that their "2008 Draft". Super. Don't forget that the rest of the teams in the AFCN have their entire draft to go. Rookies won't make as much of an impact as veterans? Really? What kind of impact did Joe Thomas have on the Browns this year?Lesson? Don't count your chickens. The NFL is full of surprises and disappointments. Remember who knocked you out of the playoffs last year? Yeah, the lowly Bengals. I'm ready for a fun year. Quote
