HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Per Curnutte's blog:Dhani Jones nears deal with BengalsThe Bengals appear to be close to finalizing a contract to re-sign outside linebacker Dhani Jones, who signed with them first as a street free agent in September after his release by New Orleans.Jones, who turned 30 on Feb. 22, played in 14 games and made nine starts for the Bengals. He started the final eight games at weak-side linebacker and was second on the team with 111 tackles. He added seven on special teams. The Bengals are waiting for the contract to come back via fax from Jones' Los Angeles-based agent, Donald Yee. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hobson confirms it -- 3 year deal. No numbers yet, but I'm sure it didn't cost a lot.Good move, IMHO. Jones was arguably our best LB last year. Quote
HairOnFire Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 "With a deal that is expected to be worth $2 million in 2008, Jones becomes one of those rare veterans to come off the street and garner a multi-year deal in a testimony of what the Bengals think about his intelligence and leadership." DesperateDerelict Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 You think Dhani enjoys football more than .......um....let me see .......selling bow ties? Quote
BTG Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Good move, IMHO. Jones was arguably our best LB last year.Do you know why people win Employee of the Month at McDonalds? Because someone has to be the best of the worst. Quote

But that said, any LB who can walk in off the street several weeks into the season, perform at least as well Landon and make a guy like Caleb Miller look absolutely stupid, ought to be brought back -- especially when the price is the NFL equivalent of peanuts. Screw Caleb Miller. Dhani Jones vastly outplayed Brian Simmons. There's your headline, Jimmy Olsen. Quote
Pidge Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Excellent. Solid in a starting role, great depth. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Ex-e-freakin-lentI still feel we should be making an effort to re-sign Landon, but hey, this is is a wonderful signing as well, and apparently VERY cap friendlyWIN-WIN-WIN all around Quote
