HairOnFire Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I don't think it will matter much if the Bengals are interested. Washington did his time here, wasn't given a fair opportunity, and left as soon as he was able to. Should he and the Patriots fail to work out a new contract I see no reason Washington would consider returning to Cincy. And for whatever it might be worth, it's not a given that Washington won't remain a Patriot. All that's rumored is New England won't pick up his 4 million dollar roster bonus....something that most people knew wasn't going to happen the moment the deal was announced last season. That said, it's widely believed that New England won't meet Randy Moss's contract demands and will almost certainly release Stallworth, possibly opening up a receiving role for Washington if he agrees to play for a reasonable amount. sparky151 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 He'd be a fine addition to the team. We haven't gotten much production from our 4th and 5th receivers since Walters and Washington left. If we trade Chad, then Washington would definitely be our #3 and we could get him a lot of PT. Lord knows the team has plenty of cap space to sign guys with. Quote
DC_Bengals_Fan Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 He couldn't catch when he was here. He hasn't caught a pass since he left. We can't afford a roster spot for a special teams coverage guy who can't do anything else useful. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 the actual text from kfflPatriots | Washington could become free agentWed, 13 Feb 2008 10:08:30 -0800Mike Reiss, of The Boston Globe, reports the New England Patriots have informed WR Kelley Washington Wednesday, Feb. 13, that they will not pick up his $4 million option bonus but are interested in working out a new deal with him. If the Patriots cannot work out a deal with Washington, he would become an unrestricted free agent Feb. 29. If the Patriots were to pick up the bonus, Washington's contract would extend through the 2011 season. Quote
