Good hire Bengals......for once <_< . I believe this was the most feasible option, I repeat feasible option the Bengals could have took. I believe this guy will put our defense in the top 15 with the right personel; which now is up to Mikey boy. :sure:

Why don't we get Walt J. to come over and split time with the Reds and Bengals and have him work as a "part time" GM? I'm being sarcastic but in reality this almost certainly would be better than just Mike Brown. Even somebdy with little football GM knowledge. H3ll, why not hire me as the GM. :lmao:

I was talking to a big Cowboys fan yesterday, and he said Zimmer works very well with linebackers and not so much with DBs. I don't know how accurate that is, but I found it somewhat interesting considering we fired our LB coach, but kept Coyle on in the secondary.

I'm guessing we'll still probably find a new LB coach, but I thought it was interesting all the same.

I think the only reason he got to keep his job is how young our secondary is and they do show signs of learning their respective positions. Firing him would mean another coach and the kids having to learn him and how he is before progressing any further at the positions.

Just my 2 cents

Bengals Hire a Defensive Coordinator

(AP) - The Bengals announced the hiring of Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer on Tuesday to fill the same role in Cincinnati. The move ends the team’s years-long status as the only NFL team without a defensive coordinator.

“We decided we’re going to try something new this year,” said head coach Marvin Lewis. “I noticed over the past season that we might have a few failings on the defensive side of the bowl, so I thought: ‘Hey, why don’t we hire one of those defensivey guys?’ You know, whatever they’re called. Coordinates or whatever. ‘Why don’t we get ourselves one of them defensey coordinates?’ So we did.”

Since Lewis came to the Bengals five years ago, the team has been without a defensive coordinator, instead going with a haphazard form of defense in which random reserves and backup offensive players yell out “My man!” before each offensive snap by the opposing team.

“We have had a pretty explosive offensive ever since I’ve been here,” said Lewis. “So I’ve wanted to keep them on the field as much as possible so they can keep scoring and wear the other defense down. So my philosophy with our defense is to get off the field as quick as possible – usually within just one or two plays – so our offense can get back out there.”

And Lewis’ approach has worked, with opponents’ drives averaging just 1.23 plays during his tenure. Unfortunately, 97.9 of them have resulted in touchdowns.

“This year we’re going to try the approach of not letting the other team score over letting them score quickly so our offense can get back out there,” said Lewis. “I don’t know how it will turn out. We’ll see. I thought my approach was pretty good. Our games were always very exciting. That’s all the fans can ask for.”

That's what I'm thinking too. With the youth in the secondary he was given a pass, especially since things did improve some as they learned.

As bad as the Bengals defense was last year, the offense was more to blame for their disappointing year.

So you want to accuse Cincinnati's top ten of all NFL offenses for this seasons poor showing more than the bottom five defense?

Okey-Dokey.

Honestly a coaching change is just part of what it is going to take to turn around this defense. They need players with bigger mean streaks and guys that carry lunch pales and not Gucci fanny packs.

If you polish a turd you are still left with a turd.

You know I get what you're saying Spor_tees, but there are players on this team who possess such streaks, but I believe Chucky's soft scheming rendered them impotent. I pray Zimmer won't let this reoccur and adopts this principle established from the William Shakespear play "Julius Caesar", Act III, scene i.

Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war!
