cincyhokie
The way you feel about the Reds (pieces being in place, confident for the future), that's the way I feel about the Bengals. And really, for the same reasons you listed. Young talent, good coaching. on Mike Brown while he's up there. And if facts, reality, records, etc. are in the way, well, he just goes ahead anyway.I hope you're right. The Bengals have the chance to catch up ALOT this offseason with some good FA and draft moves. Will they? I hope so. History is not in our favor though. COB
Fox just mentioned that the Bengals currently hold the record for most consecutive seasons without a playoff victory at 17 (and counting)...Did they mention an oxcart? No, they were too busy plugging Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Yea, I seem to have noticed something about that, like in the two thousand times they pounded their ad into my brain. Great idea Hollywood, make a tv series based on a movie. But here's the real genius move - grab like about a fifteen year old action movie that no one even cares about anymore to base the series on. Next up: "The Romancing The Stone Chronicles - Yes, Fox Already Owns The Rights To It So We Decided To Air Something That Would Never Have Seen The Light Of Day But For The Writers' Strike. Enjoy." Jonboat
The difference here is that the Reds "make an effort" - hell that's all I ask. They have 2 GM's, a new owner, got rid of most of their front office staff, signed the 2nd best pitcher on the FA market, traded for 2 others, etc.., etc..., Mike Brown doesn't make a true effort to get better - I honestly do not believe he really wants to win - he does not make the effort required, that other teams make, to get there. I will not fault someone for honestly trying and putting forth the resources and effort to build a winning team - but there's no excuse for simply not making enough of an effort.I think he has made the effort we've been complaining about the D for years Since marvins ,who was supposed to be a defensive guru , we have focused on drafting D, we signed pretty much the entire O, been going on now the 3rd DC, FA theyve signed a couple good ones & the big names have used them to get better offers & try to keep their own FA the only one they lost that had an impact on their new team was Steinbach, S. Smith maybe. Steinbach they went to first & tried to sign but Steinbach was just looking for his piece of the pie it takes two to tango. Now they're talking to Hue Jackson which seems to indicate another change.I suppose you're talking about a GM but if MB isn't going to give him control whoever that would be it would be in title only & ineffective. If your talking scouts I agree it wouldn't hurt to have a few more. Theres teams worse than us that have both so it's not an absolute that having those positions translate into winning. What did MB have to do with giving up 50 some points to the Clowns, dropping a crucial 3rd down pass, the numerous false starts in the redzone, throwing ints, injuries. This year is what I think HOF deemed the perfect storm anything that could go wrong did.
