Guy-chick...time to GO

Carson can rarely step up in the pocket the way Peyton does with Saturday as the center. Guychick did not have a good year and does not seem to have enough butt for the OLine. Any word on trying to upgrade this position? If Whitworth is versatile enough, maybe he could do it and we could put the Andrews at Guard.

:bengal:

Whit at Center...that is something I would expect Joe Pong to say...if Whitworth was playing Center Carson wouldn't be able to see the middle of the field! Whitworth is 6'7" tall! Besides I don't think Whitworth could bend over far enough to snap the ball. Honestly I think we are stuck with Ghiacic for another year because bringing in a rookie Center at this point would be more of a drop off than help.

Guychick is terrible.....he is a revolving door at center and carson never can step up....did you notice that carson actually could step into his throws in the miami game...that is because guychick was out and stepanovich was in...i dont know why he never won that job over but marvin is not the greatest at talent evaluation on the team.....

Wake Forest C Steve Justice in the second? Probably won't fall as far as us tho. Mike Pollack from Arizona?

I prefer a FA vet but it looks like the center position is weak, best may be ex-Brown Jeff Faine.

I liked Faine when he was on the board during the year he came out. Seems we had the same discussion back then. Something about finding Braham's eventual replacement. But I think he came out the same year Palmer did and was selected later in the first round.

Yep. The Browns were, ironically, projected to take Eric Steinbach in the 1st, but Butch Davis picked Faine, who was figured to slip and was a popular pick for the bengals at the top of the second round. I actually wouldn't mind Faine, now that he's shown he can stay healthy, but I think he'll be too expensive and I'd rather put the FA dollars on defense. However, if the Bengals are in defense only-mode on day 1, then they would be well-served to go after him no matter what the cost.

I think the projected competitor at Center is -- Santucci - he was drafted as a G but is listed on the roster now as a C. I assume he can play C and G

http://www.bengals.com/team/player.asp?player_id=142

They apparently think very highly of him - enough of him that they protected him on the roster - ie they thought he'd make it through waivers come the end of training camp, but the Colts signed him to THEIR practice squad on Sept 3, and the Bengals signed him back to the active roster 4 days later......and despite the glaring need for roster spots have kept him there all season long. Yes, he's been inactive, but he's also been protected -- essentially a practice squad guy who couldn't be taken from us.

I think they'll keep Step if the price is low enough, but otherwise your battle at C for the 2008 training camp is Bluto and Santucci...and maybe a UDCFA or two

BTW...have I mentioned that we have a LOT of age at the long-snapper spot? I think St Louis is eligible for SS benefits soon

There were some games this year where I thought EGhiucic was a matador the way DT were running past him, and I could have sworn i heard the crowd yell OLEEEEE'...an upgrade is really needed at that position before CPalmer get another serious knee injury...
