walzav29
I think DE is a harder spot to fill than linebacker. Take Chris Long with the #1, and shoot for a sober Odell Thurman type in the 2nd. He doesn't just seem like a high motor guy (code for white guy). He looks to have good burst, and is Howie Longs son, so I think that gives him an advantage as to how to act like a pro. I'm going to watch the bowl games looking at the projected Bengals. CJBestInAFC
Too bad he wont be there when the Bengals draft. He will be a top five pick in this years draft, so unless they trade up I am afraid the Bengals wont draft him. I personally like Calais Cambell who is 6-8. He has got some great ability, and will help the Bengals transition to a 3-4. I also like Gholston from OSU. I think both these DE should be available when the Bengals pick. walzav29
Well someone has to be availabel. You don't want a guy with just good measurables (Big Daddy). I wan't someone who was productive.

CJBestInAFC
I agree the DE position must be addressed in either the first or second round or we are going to get another player like Frostee Rucker.

ArmyBengal
One of the mentioned DE's will be available when the Bengals pick. The question is, do they pick one ?? What if the Bengals DO sign Justin long term and Sedrick Ellis was available ?? I'm thinking DT would be the pick...WHODEY !!!

I'm thinking DT would be the pick...WHODEY !!!I agree that it would be better for the Bengals to take Sedrick Ellis than reach for one of the lower rated DE.IMO The order of preference for the Bengals should be: Ken Dorsey, Chris Long, Sedrick Ellis, Vernon Gholston, Calais Campbell, James Laurinaitis, Keith Rivers. As stated by others -- Dorsey and Long are probably gone -- but I've scenarios where one of them is available for the Bengals at the 9th spot. Not too keen on Laurinaitis or Rivers above the others though. Would be reaching with a top ten pick for both of them, imo. Well Rivers moreso, could get over us picking baby Animal that high. This is a piss poor linebacker class. Maybe we'll get lucky and Rivers falls to us in the second. Yeah right! Cleveland would probably trade us Ken Dorsey for our first rounder Dan Connor might be the best LB in the class. I'd prefer either a DE or DT though, whichever we don't get in free agency. Please, for the love of God, don't re-sign Justin.

cincyhokie
I'm sure some of you guys remember that Paul Brown's very first draft pick for the Bengals as a franchise was a center. His philosophy was to build from the inside and the front out. Smart man. That logic still applies today. Too bad we have Mike Brown and not Paul Brown.Mikey, do as your father did this time!!!! Draft linemen in 2008 both defense then offense!!!!! And for god sake, if the Saints offer you all 11 picks for our number one again, take it! Bengals44
I personally like Calais Cambell who is 6-8. He has got some great ability, and will help the Bengals transition to a 3-4.Agreed!

He has got some great ability, and will help the Bengals transition to a 3-4.Agreed!My concern about Calais Campbell is not his height or long arms (he's got those)-- it's his ability to rush the passer AND stop the runs. He seems to get lost on runs to his side. While he can really rush the passer, he is not consistent against the run or even sturdy, which surprises me based on his size.He very athletic and can change direction very well. There is a possiblity that he could learn to be a good DE versus the run -- but IMO the Bengals don't have the coaches to teach him the techniques.I would certainly take Campbell, if Glenn Dorsey, Chris Long, Sedrick Ellis and Vernon Gholston are gone when we pick. ShulaSteakhouse
I think you draft whoever is highest on your board at LB, DE or OL.
