BengalszoneBilly
The aquisition of QB's Kurt Kittner and Casey Bramlet make this a very pertinent question.

denverbengal
I think the "yes" answer says it all. Carson will truly benefit from having a guy like Kit there to get him through the tough times that he's going to face next year. Yes, his salary is a bit much for a backup, but he's definitely the best backup in the league, and he is a proven winner. I think Marvin will keep him around because it's best for the team. BengalszoneBilly
I dunno guy's...it sure feels as though were trading in an expensive "Kitna" for an inexpensive "Kittner"!
HoosierCat
It all depends on Carson. If he pans out, Kitna is gone next year. If he bombs, they probably find a way to keep him.

You may very well be right. I just don't want to lose Kit (Kit #1 that is). I think he'll be a great influence for CP.

I hope I'm not...but you have to remember that the Bengals are a small market team, and it's gonna take every available buck to take the team where Marvin (and us to say the least!) wants it to go!! :player:

chrishcovga
There is no way on this green earth that Kurt Kittner or Casey Bramlet, or Scott Rislov push John Kitna off the roster, this year, or next !I live here in Georgia, I've seen Kittner play, and it amazes me that we would even sign the guy. He has as much pocket presence as a blind man walking on I-75 ! He is pure unadulterated BUM ! To be honest with you, I think Scott Rislov beats out Bramlet and Kittner . Hell, we never even mentioned Shane Matthews! That's four freakin' backups behind Carson. What would any sane person think if you were in Kitna's place right now? I'd be calling my realtor and putting my property on the market. Honey! Start packing!! Kids!?! Say goodbye to your friends...mommy and daddy are MOVING!! Matthews isn't a Bengal, and won't be a Bengal. The reason the team has so many QB's fighting for one spot is the fact that the team is in an eviable postionto be able to develop a top flight long term backup and shape him into what they need, especially since they have Zampese as the QB coach, cause he may not be around but for so much longer cause he's moving up sooner rather than later... kevnz
Well, just noticed this on the web:Kitna's contract extension signed early last week cuts his salary cap number by about $1.3 million.Signed now through 2005, Kitna received a $2.375 signing bonus. He will be paid a $1 million base salary this season, and his cap number is $3.1875 million. His 2005 base salary is $3 million, and he will earn a $1 million roster bonus if he is on the roster at the start of the NFL financial year that often begins with free agency in March. That means the cap hit for Kitna leaving this year would be 2.3 million, so cutting him only frees up an additional 1 million (I say only like it's a small thing ) But Kitna is as good as gone come March with a cap count of 5.2 million next year versus having about 1.2 million hit for cutting him....He might be cut and signed at a lesser value but I doubt it...I can see why the team is so worried about developing a cheap long term backup. Northwest Bengal
If Kitna was going to be moved off the roster, the Bengals would have at least traded him for SOMETHING! He's going nowhere this year. Next year he will move on as a cap casualty.
JPW
Kitna is a Great guy to Keep on our roster. He is:1. A ML type player (Very Smart with High Character)2. Good Insurance for us. (the best back up QB in the NFL)3. The perfect Mentor for Palmer. (and unselfish enough to put his Heart into it)
