BENGALTHEM

All of the sporting good, and depatment stores dropped the Bengals gear.

Still hafta order most gear online

this is soooo true, funny story about that though. My mom went into a mall out here that just opened up and went into the sports store. They had TONS of clothes especially for NFL, but they only had 1 shirt of the bengals(Which i now own heh), this was during last season when they were in first in the division. My mom started to yell at the manager saying WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE MORE BENGAL STUFF??? THEY ARE FIRST IN THEIR DIVISION!!! WHAT DO THEY GOTTA DO TO GET NOTICED!!!! i myself was crackin up:D

jditty...your mom KICKS ASS!! :player:

My ex-wife bought a Bengals jacket for my kids to give me this past Christmas. She found it at a Walmart in Colorado Springs. Neither of us could believe it.

Good thread BENGALTHEM. The hardest thing was having to endure year after consecutive year of being the joke of the NFL. Marvin ended that last season, and will only continue to build on it THIS season. I expect great things and soon from the Bengals!!

Thank You Marvin!! :player:

You know ....... this is something that has never occurred to me. I've said before that I've been a fan since they came into the league, and it's been tough to watch them get lambasted daily for the last umpteen years, but I've never thought of it in terms of being tough to be a Bengals fan. Annoying at times ...... when the mouth breathers think they're getting original with some "B" word humor, but not really tough. I've never considered not being a fan.

This is an interesting take though, and some of the responses made by other out of town fans are things I can identify with. I'd like to get home for more games than I do, but they're tough to coordinate.

I wonder if any of the other out of towners get some of the same comments that I do ...... that is after they bust my butt for a couple of minutes, a lot of the guys will actually say something along the line that they have to hand it to Bengals fans for not jumping ship. I've actually ended up getting compliments on what good fans we are to stick with the team the way we do.

i get as many compliments as i get jokes. I love being a bengal fan dont get me wrong, and it shows ppl that im not a bandwagon guy and actually am dedicated to my team regardless.

That's exactly what I experience jditty, especially when I wear one of my hats or t-shirts. They usually say incredulously..."You like the BENGALS!?!" Then they'll usually say "Well I must admit you got guts for standing by your team through all this!"

That's when I tell 'em I'm no bandwagon jumper. I was there for them in their Super Bowl years, and I was still there in those 2-14 years. Just not as happy but "Semper Fedelis", which is also the Marine Corps motto that means "Always Faithful".

Speaking as a former Marine, 95% of you guys that post here, and have stuck by the Bengals through these past bleak 13 years of hell, I'd say you have the mental toughness to be Marines! :player:

No doubt.

The last 12 years have been an exercise in futility.

Still, the hardest thing about being a Bengals fan was the last two games last year. Those games sucked. I hadn't cussed the tv so much since Billups dropped the INT in the end zone in the Super Bowl.

As for the garb, I tried to find my boy a Palmer jersey on Bengalszone.com but no luck. He aint but 3 and is stubborn as hell but he throws a mean spiral already.

To give a little history about myself, as a Bengals fan...............I have been a die hard since my junior high school days. I went to junior high, and high school in San Diego. So the only time I got to see the Bengals in person is when they played in San Diego. In that time span I have never witnessed the Bengals beat the Chargers in San Diego, except for this past season. Surprisingly, every Chargers, Bengals game I have went to, there has always been a strong fan support for the Bengals. But living in California is hard because I got to deal with Raider fans, 49ers fans, and Charger fans, constantly. None of my peers, understand why I love my Bengals. The crazy thing is, my brother is a big time Squeeler fan, and my best friend is a Brownie fan. During my college years, I had 3 roomates, one was a Raider fan, one was, a 49er fan, and one was a Clown fan. So you know I caught hell. But like someone said before its all a character building experience and it has just made me stronger and that much more loyal. Bandwagoning is not tolerated as far as I am concerned. Even when I play Madden football online, I always run with the Bengals. Using any other team just wouldn't feel right.

Since graduating from college and joining the work force, there are four dudes that work in my department who are die hard football fans like me. One is a chiefs fan, one is a seahawk, one is a 49er fan, and one is a raider fan. So the game last year against the raiders killed my spirits, when Kitna threw that int. to Buchannon and he ran it back. We shouldnt have lost that game, because we absolutely dominated that game. But when the Bengals beat the Chiefs, I was the happiest man alive. And when they beat Seattle, and the 49ers, it was like icing on the cake. So those 3 wins, ensured bragging rights for the rest of the year at my job :D

I have never been to a home game in Cincy, but I am going to try my hardest to go to one this year. Especially, the Sunday night game, or the Monday night game. I cant imagine being in a stadium full of loud Bengals fans. It would be like I died and went to heaven.

WHO DEY!!

I know how you feel. Im the same way!

The hardest thing about being a fan was the season finale game last year. It was my first game and i went with my girl(browns supporter), her brother(browns fan), and his girl. When the bengals looked to have the game i went to smoke a cig and lee suggs or whoever had that huge run that sure dampened my spirits, what a crappy day that was.

My son and I drove from here in western New York to see the Bengals play the Ravens. It was the first time for both of us to be at PBS, and it was fantastic to be in a sea of black jerseys*. It was also great not to hear " the Bengals ??? " every 4.2 seconds.

Watching them win the game and then walking out with all the other faithful was one of the better father son moments we've had in a long time.

Lot of good memories to last a long time, and I'm looking forward to adding to them this year. Like I said on the other thread tho ... it's tough to coordinate with both of us trying to get time off together .... and then travel plans etc. Got to find a way somehow though. It was just too good of a time to pass again if there's any way at all to make it happen.

* The jerseys that cracked us up were the ones that had duct tape over Spikes' name and had Hardy written on it. We were also impresssed with the number of guys / ladies that were wearing autographed jerseys. Way better than framing them I have to admit.

not living in cincinnati, and therefore only seeing 1 game a year if im lucky.

that seems to be changing though with the newfound national attention, thank goodness.

for better or worse?

I would imagine for the worse, the closet fans will start occupying our seats...

Thats how that Chiefs game was...

I was right next to these little kids and they were happy because I wore that suit.

Ive only been to a Pittsburgh game in the past, and half the stadium were filled with those muthaf**kers...

But the Chiefs was a sea of orange, and that game had eclipsed the attendance record....

If I go to another game, I'm wearing the suit, its cool....I had fun

The hardest thing about being a Bungles Fan (my top 10):

1. Mike Brown taking over in 1990 (the beginning of futility)

2. The Bungles being the worst NFL Franchise in the 90s decade

3. The 1999 draft where Mike Brown elected to take Akillme Smith instead of the 11 picks that Ditka offered him.

4. David Klingler

5. David Shula

6. Ken Anderson, Offensive Coordinator

7. Big Fatty Wilkerson

8. Pinata Carter

9. Artrell Hawkins

10. The "Bengals" in the 1980s go to being the Bungles of the 1990s/2000s.

There are probably about 50 reasons of why it's hard being a fan.

Oh well--at least San Diego took the place of the Bungles of being the worst franchise in the NFL....and I think Cleveland is worse-off than the Bungles are right now!!!

2 things, barbarian - good post besides the bungle word, and CatScratch - I NEVER EVER bet against my team. And i never bet on my team either. They always lose when i bet on them, whether it be the flyers, the lakers, the reds, the bengals, or the bearcats, or the huskers, it doesnt matter...betting on your fav team = gauranteed loss. :(

I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing anyone of betting against your team (god forbid), just stating my philosophy. :player:

Hardest thing about being a fan is going from the kickass days of the 80's to getting our asses handed to us each week. Getting your hopes up year after year to only be absolutely dejected by week six. Lewis offered another ray of hope and you have no choice but to cling to it. As in each year, I have hope again. Welcome BACK to the jungle!! (My favorite tune during the games) :D:D
