Kirkendall
The Bengals signed former Redskins offensive lineman Larry Moore to a three-year contract this morning. Moore's agent Jack Bechta confirmed the deal. Moore received $200,000 to sign the contract, which will average about $1.1 million a year. Moore, a six-year veteran who will turn 29 on June 1, started the first eight games at center for Washington in 2003 before suffering a sprained foot. The Redskins released Moore on Friday. He has 72 starts in 78 NFL games with the Colts and Redskins. Moore has 40 NFL starts at center and 32 pro starts at guard. He fills a major need by providing depth at interior offensive line for the Bengals. The Bengals drafted only one offensive lineman, Mississippi tackle Stacy Andrews, with their 11 picks last weekend. Asked Sunday about the need for depth at center and guard, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said, “We have a plan.” The Bengals re-signed free agent starting center Rich Braham and signed free agent guard Bobbie Williams from Philadelphia to replace the departed Mike Goff (San Diego) at right guard. Rookie Eric Steinbach is the starting left guard, but the Bengals’ backups at all three positions lack extensive NFL experience. Three times Moore has started all 16 games in a season, twice at center (Colts, 1999; and Redskins, 2002) and once at guard (Colts 2000). Lewis was Washington’s defensive coordinator in 2002 and is familiar with Moore. Moore entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent from Brigham Young in 1997 with Seattle. At BYU, Moore started at guard as a junior and at center as a senior. He is 6 feet 2, 309 pounds and is a San Diego native.

BengalszoneBilly
This guy (Marvin) is executing a plan to go to war! He's putting all his "chess pieces" in place, and come kickoff time, the opposition will be annihalated! :player:
kevnz
Good signing and I feel much better about center now....Still worried long term, but hey it's taken care of this year so it's cool. What amazes me is the teams ability to keep a lid on things....How many times has something happened (the Denver trade, or the Dillon trade) and nobody knew until the last minute? Other teams you hear about things weeks in advance....This guy would have been signed before the draft and that kept Marvin from reaching for center and I'm sure that if someone would have fallen to him fine, if not he's got an extra center anyway. cincykent
It gives us the ability to draft and groom our future center next year.

chrishcovga
Truly a great job. It's amazing that a guy like himself was even available. 40 nfl starts..?? And not on anyone's roster.. I wonder how serious that foot injury was.. But either way it's beneficial to us. Guess guys like Thatcher Szalay,Leyva, and the rest better start looking for the "turk" early this year. The Brew Man
Also glad to see this, Marvin and the boys maybe had a reason not to trade up and get Smiley or Grove......
