On firing Marvin, be careful of what you wish for!

Let's say all you whiners get your wish and Mike Brown cans Marvin Lewis. Then what? Who are you going to ge to replace him? I would most likely guess Bob Bratkwaski. Not because he deserves it, but because Mike will not go outside of the organization to fill the position. The pattern has been the same since Mike's been the GM. His first coaching change was replacing Wyche with Dave Shula. Personally I like the move, because it gave Brown a scapegoat for a few years. But, the fans patience wore thin with Shula. So Brown let him go and replaced him with Bruce Coslet. A good offensive coordinator, but a horrible head coach. And why was that, because he couldn't trust his coordinators to call the plays. So Coslet gives it a go for a few seasons. Mike didn't have to can Coslet, he had a breakdown on his own and left. So, who does Mike turn to? Yes, Dick LeBeau, the teams defensive coordinator. While LeBeau may be a defensive coordinator genius, he blew as a head coach. His most memorable moments as a head coach were the costumes he wore during training camp.

So Mike's next move after LeBeau was outside of the organization. He hired Marvin Lewis. A man who had no previous head coaching experience. A man who supposedly is defensive coordinator mastermind. But after five seasons the fans have lost their patient with Lewis. I should say some fans.

So here's the scenario. The Bengals lose in Buffalo. On Monday they let go of Marvin and Name Brat the interim head coach. The Bengals win out and still miss the playoffs. No off season coaching changes are made and the Bengals fail to reach eight wins next season. And that my friends is most likely what will happen if Marvin is fired during the season.

Do you think we coould raise enough money to buy the team off of Mikey Brown? How much would it take, anyway?

The Bengals are valued at $675 Million as of September 29.

Forbes NFL Franchise Values

If there were a lawyer that was a fan of the Bengals they could draw up paperwork to make the Bengals a tradeable commodity that would have "shares" that could be bought or sold. This was attempted a few years ago to buy the Montreal Expos by a group on the internet. I even pledged some money towards that, but not enough people were found for it to happen. Even if this was drawn up, and enough pledges were made and the money for every pledge was verified, Mike Brown would have to agree to sell his cash cow, and the NFL would have to approve the sell. Never, ever, ever would happen unless there was a majority owner who was very rich and kept 51%, and then sold off the other 49% in stocks. The previous Cleveland Indians owner did this. In fact I owned 11 shares in the Indians until they were sold and I was forced to sell them. I bought the original stocks for $15 each and then had to sell them for $21 each. Even with the fans owning 49% of the team they really wouldn't have much of a say so in everyday operations which would make the whole thing pretty much pointless. It sure would be cool though. I'd buy a few shares of the Bengals if they were up for sale. Say they made it share $100, that would mean at $675 Million there would have to be a total of 6.75 million shares. Are there 6.75 million Bengals fans out there interested in buying a share at $100?

Unfortunately, can't happen anymore...NFL has rules against publically traded teams, I believe. Obviously the Packers get a grandfather exemption.

Or 675k who could chip in $1000 average. Counting corporate sponsors, I bet we could, if it were allowed.

I do know firing Marvin won't change anything, because the owners of the team are responsible for why this team is bad, under-achieving or a disappointment every single year.

I am truly to the point where I just don't care anymore, yesterday drove that home.

There is no sense in making any sort of financial or emotional investment in this franchise any longer - none at all, and those who do are foolish, and even one winning season won't change my mind in the future.

I know my friends are not re-newing their season tickets next year, and I imagine the Brown family will lose quite a few of those and we'll see how many on the waiting list actually go through with it.

I won't stop watching the NFL, but I'm certainly not going to plan my days around Bengals' games any longer - got better things to do with my time than to watch bad football - enough already.

This franchise will never, ever change, and they will never, ever win anything. So, why bother.

Unfortunately I'm feeling the same way, I called DirectTV to see about cancelling my subscription to the Sunday Ticket but once the season starts I'm in it for the long haul <_< , but next year is available to be cancelled and I think I will.

MB runs the Bengals on the cheap, if he wins that's a bonus, if not the checks are still clearing, so either way he's good, it's the fans who suffer because they support a franchise that isn't fully committed to winning. In order to build a winner you have spend money sometimes, you it takes money to make money.

It seems like the FO has a "win at the right price" philosphy which just doesn't work. So if the front office isn't committed to fielding a winning team, why should I be committed to being a fan? Too many games were played with only 4 lb's, too many aging vets brought in to the be the answer only when they are serviceable at best or never really good at all. Too many signs that the front office isn't fully committed to being a consistant winner, which is all the fans want.

Ha! I did the same thing with DirecTV - looks like we're SOL. Unfortunately - I'll probably still get it next year b/c I'm a sucker. Really puts a damper on your Sundays though...

I still don't completely buy the Mike Brow Conspiracy Theory. I still think it's as simple as him being too stubborn to give up control but too inept to build a winning organization.

yeah..I think I'll give it a go next year as well, that bastard SoP got us the jollies doesn't he!!

As for the MB Conspiracy Theory, I think that is part of his ineptness is that he's too cheap. I know he wants to win but if he's not bringing in the right players then that is his problem. Hire a GM and a NFL sized scouting department to make sure you have the right people for the job. It's like he wants to win, but only if it's within the budget, we need the front office to be committed to winning at all cost.

Obviously the refrees aren't going to hand us victories, have you ever seen a team get so many bad calls at home, like they do the Steelers in the SuperBowl so we are going to have to take it. But that is too far ahead, right now we just need to re-learn how to win football games against NFL caliber competition.

I have direct ticket too and although I don't want to get rid of it next year, I still will. I'm paying a lot of money this year just to be pissed off every Sunday. I guess I could look forward to getting a high draft pick, but even if we do, the guy will just get injured in the first preseason game and never amount to much anyway.

the blame lies on both marvin and mikey, don't be fooled that it's all mikey, marvin has some pull around here enough i believe that if he wanted a better staff and players and wanted to s**t can bres and crew mikey would have done it. they chose to ignore that we were lacking players, coaches, medical staff , scouts. then went on and keep bres and crew drafted very poorly put way to much money in levi willie and justin, signed the cheapest free agents we can get or hands on, waist roster space on guys like rucker fanene. then they try to convice us fans they are doing everything they can to make this team better. BULLs**t it's all BULLs**t!!!!
