....from Hobson:

Bres, speaking about NE.

"You have to be patient. You get antsy and that's when they go up top," said Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan. "It's what we keep talking about. Consistency for 60 minutes. Until we get rid of the big plays, we're going to just be average."

...just AVERAGE? AVERAGE? Hells Bells, most of Bengalsdom would be happy as pigs in slop with AVERAGE (defense) at this point!!!

Bres, how about you

get this D to average

and THEN

you can start giving quotes and doing interviews....about being AVERAGE.

Newsflash BRES...

Bengals Passing D - 27th in the NFL

Bengals Rushing D - 27th in the NFL

Bengals D PPG - 29th in the NFL

HELLO? HELLO?

THIS D IS NOT ANYWHERE IN THE VICINITY OF AVERAGE!!!!!! Not in the same zip code, county or state.

Dammit, this kind of deluded farking hogwash makes me crazy.

BRES has got to go. It is bad enough to SEE the defense play, now we actually hear just how farking deluded this guy is? Gone.

oh, but it is the injuries.

Wow. Bresnahan has really been hitting the orange flavored Kool-Aide pretty hard to think ANYTHING his unit has done this season has been close to "average". I wonder if they ever even glance at the stats, because they don't lie. His comments are simply insipid. *Definition: means devoid of qualities that make for spirit and character.* Yup, that's Chuck all day long. <_<

Actually, there is something worth mentioning in what Bres stated: his defense requires the players to practically play mistake-free football to be decent (ie, "consistency for 60 minutes). With practically no QB pressure the DBs have to play perfectly and hold coverage forever. And even then, good QBs will pick them apart. That's why it *won't work*.

It is indeed funny that he thinks they're average.

Did he sound like he has completely split from reality? Yes

I think he was unsing the term "average" for the benefit of his players and to be political. These guys are young and I don't think he wanted to call his players out in front of the media. Right or wrong - I think that's what he was doing. Doesn't make our D and better.

Totally agree - Bengals D plays mistake free and they are still only average due to lack of ability and experience.

I think Bres has written the Browns game off as an aberration.

If you take that away, then between the Baltimore and Seattle performances, average is pretty much on the mark.

Not that I agree with him. Just saying...

True - take away the Cleveland game and you could definitely put more of the blame on special teams.

Boy I really wish you could take away that Cleveland game...

I would say special teams has hurt this team more than the defense, mistakes on special teams make it impossible to win.

And yes I too beleive that Bres used the word "average" in faith. He has to deal with the players on a daily basis and it's his job to motivate them, trashing them in the media is not going to help the situation.

This defense will always be average or below average as long as Chuck is incharge of it, all we ever get is inconsitant playing from everyone out there. Can u name one guy out there that is consistant play after play i sure cant and if someone does miss a play i dont see anyone there to back them up. This has to be the worst coached defense team in the league and sometimes i wonder about all aspects of the game turnover, penalties ect, but dont worry like they always say they will fix it i guess. This defense is below average even if everyone was healthy i really dont see them higher then 28 ranked they just dont have enough consistant playmakers or do i really ever see them playing as a team out there its a sad site.

I have too. Its the only way I can have any hope we will turn this around. I cannot admit that THAT was our defense.

What Browns game?

Who Dey!!!! Lets get to 2-1 on Monday!!!!

How about 2-2? No matter what miracle the Bengals might unfold to pull out a victory (however unlikely) Monday night, the league still won't take a loss away from us. :P

I'd like to add though that a problem ignored wont go away. It's only left to fester.

I know, it was tongue in cheek.

All in all, 2-2 would be a fantastic start to the season. 2 wins against 3 2006 playoff teams.

Wait til the schedule strength weakens and wins start rolling in.

This Monday is big though. Bengals need to put their foot down and play a full solid game.

I cant wait.

I can guarantee Kornheiser will irritate the **** out of me. At least he wont be able to use the fact again that the Bengals hadnt stopped a team from scoring a TD once the ball was within the 5 yard Line.
