CarsonCity
Anybody else find these rankings to be the byproduct of about 12 beers? It's not even the positions of the teams (I actually agree with him on most of it), but the fact that he moves teams up and down with terrible reasoning. For example, he moves Chicago (who lost 14-3 to San Diego) up two spots from 6th to 4th. He also moves down the Lions (who won) while simultaneously promoting the Raiders (who lost to the Lions). I mean, I just don't see how a team can win a game, and get moved down, no matter how ugly that win may be. At the very worst, you should stay at the same ranking.BTW, I hope nobody bothers to post the standard "The rankings don't matter; Who cares?; Rankings are stupid" statements. I already realize all of this, but would still like to hear what everyone else thinks of this guy's PRs.
HoosierCat
You mean Pete Schrager @ Fox?http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/powerRankingsYeah, I dunno how the Bears lose and move up 2 but whatever.I browsed through the various rankings on the usual sites earlier. Lots of bandwagon jumping going on, with some (like Yahoo and Sporting News) putting Cincy as high as 4. Pete Prisco is the notable exception. Apparently still feeling burned from taking the bengals as a dark horse playoff candidate in 2002, Pete only bumps them a notch to 10. B24
I think Eric James did the best job with his power rankings this week. I think you can find them on Bengalszone.com http://www.bengalszone.com/power_rankings.php
CJBestInAFC
I don't know how the Bears make it in the top 5. They lost and they have zero to no offense in the game against the Chargers. I don't see how they would be able to beat the Bengals, so they should atleast be worse than the Bengals in the rankings. While the Ravens are forced to use Boller if McNair misses any time, the Bears are stuck with Grossman (at best) all season. If you're that poor at such an important position as Quarterback, I really don't see how you can be considered one of the best 5 teams in the NFL. Especially after an 11 point loss. They get a free pass this week for two reasons:1) It's week 1 in the NFL...if you base your rankings off of the results from week 1, then you're going to look back at the end of the season and wonder what in the world you were smoking.2) They lost to the Chargers who I feel have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Match a mediocre offense (Bears) against a solid defense (Chargers), and you can usually predict the results. That doesn't mean their mediocre offense won't be enough to get it done against quite a few NFL teams, however. It's not like this game was exactly a blowout. If their offense continues to look bad against KC next week, then it's time to think about dropping them down a bit. I don't think the Bears could win any division in the AFC with Grossman. And now they're without Thomas Jones, with Benson not having showed much. So no way they're 4th.
