Stripes
They'll end the season on a high note. Good enough for me, after the horrid start.

Good enough for me, after the horrid start. How high can that note be if they still finish below 500? Right now they're 60-70, and their current 6 game win streak is coming against other struggling teams. IMHO it looks better than it really is because the rest of the division isn't that good either. I agree with you, the recent winning means very little. They did the same thing with Jerry Narron took over for Dave Miley, and it made no difference in the long run. At least not in the present day of this once great organization. I got spoiled as a kid growing up watching the Big Red Machine in all it's glory. With the way MLB is run now, Cincinnati and other smaller market teams just don't have a chance to compete. So much for the alleged "Great American Pastime". They need to start calling it "The Great American Pastime As Long as You Live In Boston or New York City". They have all the baseball glory money can buy. Stripes
Small market teams definitely have it tougher in MLB, but I do think they at least have a legitimate chance to succeed. I'll cut the Reds some slack for being in the position they're in, but I know they're capable of being a consistent playoff team. Their biggest enemy, IMO, is Great American Ball Park. Good pitchers don't want to sign with Cincy and pitch in that pinball machine.

If so, the Reds need to specialize in sinkerball pitchers and stay away from those who like to bring the heat. Rob Dibble I doubt could win nary a game there. I've been saying this all season (through all the problems and hearthache); "We'll be right there come late August." I'm a warrior, I never give up until it's over. It ain't over either, the Reds still have a shot. I was pitching in a softball game last week and gave up 11 runs in the first inning before we even came to bat, talk about diminishing. The next inning I told myself that it's not over, I need to take control of the game. I got my team hype after pitcing a 1-2-3 in the top of the 3rd and we started hitting the ball in the bottom of the inning. The other team didnt' score 1 more run the rest of the game. We won 19-11. Arroyo, Harrang, and the rest of the guys have to step up now and take control. Nothing else this season matters, it's how you finish the season that counts in baseball. cincy9275
is it just me or is Arron the most dominating pitcher in baseball this season the man is a beast. his sinker is just nasty almost unhittable. why this guy was not a allstar or a cy young candidate just blows my mind. MacD BengalFan
I was all excited about the prospects of the Reds actually being able to make a run at the division title a few days ago. 6 1/2 games back with a schedule that allowed them to control their own destiny. Then they ran into the Defending World Champions this past weekend and could not muster one win. Not one!!! What was once a giggly feeling about the prospects of the Reds sneaking up on people, turned back into no hope and despair.

I watched with glee as my Buccos lead the majors in runs in August, but the moment I mentioned this fact to a fan of another team, the Pirates went into a 5 game losing streak. Well, except for our 11-0 beatdown of the Cardinals last night.
