Hits and Misses from Day 1

I'm posting this so you guys can see why I'm so upset about what our Bengals did..

-- I don't have a problem with the picks, I have a problem with where we took them !

1.Perry had a late 1st - 2nd round grade. Check my mock you'll see I had him going to the Rams at # 26.!! -- But trading away S.Jackson to get Perry , to back up Rudi.. was a bad Pick.- I Said we could have traded down with Detroit, who eventually traded back into Round 1 and got K.Jones - Bad move Cincy'

2.Keiwan Ratliff - Check the mock.. you'll see I had him going to us in round 3.. he's good value there, because we should have drafted some D-lineman in round 2.

2b. Madieu Williams - Check the mock and the Draft posts, I've been talking nothing but good things for him, but getting him over Sean Jones at # 56 was a bad move - he's a 3rd rounder, not an elite player .-

3a- Caleb Miller, Didn't make anyone' (draftniks'/scouts) top 100 players. - Good player, but not athletic enough to go day 1, and Keyaron Fox was as highly rated a LB as they come.

3b- London Johnson - another reach.. smallish, lacked elite linebacker production, he's a workout warrior, and not better than Abdullah or Levels.. - wasted pick.

Ok , so now that you have a grasp of what I'm thinking here.. Let's look at what we missed.. and you tell me if you think we drafted well enough to win the Division..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Chris Perry or S. Jackson ?

- No Grove , 4th rounder for elite runningback.

2. Could have had Odom at 49 and Starks at 56.. Not one CB taken between 49-56... should tell you that Ratliff went too high.

2- Sean Jones - possible first rounder with elite skills, size, speed. Over a guy rated as a 3rd - 4th rounder.

3.- 2 linebackers over higher rated D-Lineman Donnell Washington, Odom, Hargrove..etc.. Both linebackers had 4-6th round grades, means they probably would have been there tomorrow..

-- We didn't address the D-line, No DE, no DT, no elite LB, and no interior offensive lineman.. Not a good day one. You can debate amongst yourselves, but I know what I know.

Here's some more AMMO... The titans have been losing DL for years, but somehow Fisher and company continue to get guys to come in and play well. The Titans are always one of the better run defenses, because they scout so well..

They grabbed Odom and Starks, after us..? - Not a good move Cincy'.

Chris, are you pissed at the picks or the fact that the Bengals didn't agree with you?

Because I've been looking, and I really can't find any bad things on the Bengals picks except that the first pick in round two was a little bit of a reach...but then the guy was the SEC(that's a major conference) defensive player of the year that Marvin got to look at first hand....Just chill a little and let Marvin put it all together....

They don't have to agree with me, keep missing the point.. Let's get the BANG for our bucks..

we needed rb , but not that high, and if you have a chance to get a gamebreaker like Jackson- you take him.

We didn't get any of the top D-lineman, or o-lineman and I know you agree with me about Brahams age, and Bobbie Williams inconsistent play.

Name me one guy we drafted other than Perry ( waste ) that will challenge for a starting spot..?

Rest my case. - If Rudi is our guy, then drafting Perry was a mistake if you. You don't draft backups in round 1.

Okay, Madieu Williams....He'll be starting before week 8.....Herring should see the writing on the wall.

Another.... Keiwan Ratliff could very well take over the second DB spot.

Third...Hardys spot could be on the line with Landon Johnson....

I rest my case.....

I'll just point out one thing: there are numerous complaints that the Bengals passed, in most cases multiple times, on folks like Dockett and Starks and Odom (and to add my own favorite Rod Davis), etc. Well...so did everyone else. It isn't as if the Bengals just passed on guys who were immediately snapped up by the next team in line, but they passed, and so did club...after club...after club. Should we have taken Poole or Vasher instead of Ratliff? Well...maybe...but we aren't the only club to wave them off.

So far, this draft hasn't gone as many of the draft sites and TV/internet talking heads projected. Now, maybe all of them are right and the majority of NFL clubs are wrong. Or...maybe it's the other way around.

Me, I'm just happy that the Clowns took Kellen Winslow II, who I personally think is the most overhyped player in the draft. The Cleveland tradition of first-round busts continues! :player:

But see, that's my point there Joisey... Last year we lucked out, this year was by design to trade down, and we didn't make the most out of it..

We went for quantity instead of Quality !! We're the other example of the N.E. spectrum - they had 11 picks, but everyone knows the players that they took..

We took guys too high, and then when we had the chance to grab the "impact" guys, we guessed on others .. You don't pass up a Sean Jones for a Madieu Williams..

This is '99 all over again.. - Day 2 had better land some of those guys I posted in the "Who's Left " draft forum or you can basically say the Bengals took the weekend off !

i love how you jump all over the bengals for passing on those certain players when there were jquite a few other teams that passed them over as well.

All the more reason.... When I saw k.C. grab Kris Wilson Te, pittsburgh with the defense that they have.. I was thinking maybe somebody poisened all the GMs..??? -- But then the sad part kicked in.. and I remembered that we don't have a GM.

You do if you want a guy who can start this year versus a guy with more "upside." No, this isn't '99 -- or any other draft -- again. The Bengals have been rolling the dice on "potential" for as long as I can remember, reaching for everything from TEs to punters/kickers. This year, the common theme I see is that all our picks are considered solid players who need very little coaching up or technique work; instead, they're guys whose primary need is NFL experience. I think these guys will make far more of an impact, and an immediate one at that, than you might believe.

Was anyone else getting realy excited when Denver was on the clock and wilfork, Udeze, and Smith were still on the board. I know i was flippin out but my hopes were shattered.
