GapControl
I watched the Saints Bengals practice video highlights and it looked like White intercepted Drew Brees on a 10 yard out. Just practice but a good sign that he is adjusting and learning the NFL quickly. Also, Kooistra looks big! I think he will do fine for Willie if Willie can`t go early in the season. GapControl
Hmmm.... I should take the high road. He looked capable of starting at RT.
ShulaSteakhouse
Kooistra has no experience as a starter and is a complete uknown as a #2 guy at Willie's position. I know he's been around a while, but he hasn't played for long stints at all. He put on some bulk this off-season and is now supposably in the 340's - if I heard that right. You can only pray he's capable of suprising everyone. The Perry and Irons' picks should've been spent on o-lineman IMO. I still stand by that. If you're not going to re-sign interior lineman, you need to quit drafting #2 Rb's with those picks, and continually take o-lineman on the first day.Steinbach was a major part of their success in '05 and even last season, and too many people over look that.Re-signing Willie was not a wise move. I know he wanted to stick it out, but that dude is literally on his last leg.

That was one of the main reasons so few Bengal fans were heartbroken to see him go. The other is that Whitworth was a 1st day pick... you know, that thing you are complaining about the Bengals never doing.

Do you really think any team would pay him $8 mil a year because he sucks? Cmon. I realize he's hurt right now, and yes he's overpaid as-is ultimately (who isn't at his age), but don't draft guards in the 2nd round if you don't plan on re-signing them for less $ before their contract is up, if they play well. They've drafted two possible Willie replacements in Whitworth and Andrews, and neither panned out at that position. I can't believe we have two 6'7 guards. How do they pull and get out on LB's? They can't. They are just typical Alexander mashers with no polish, and I like Whitworth, but he's a tackle. If you're not going to re-sign your 2nd and 3rd round picks on the 0-line if they're not tackles, then keep drafing them, and quit drafting RB's. Kazkal
It's the browns paying him 8million a year I agree he's a good linemen but he was also very undersized which hurt us vs stronger linemen...Do you pay 8million a year to the guy fault your QB got hurt twice? Anderson and Williams generally don't do much 5 yards past the LOS. Andrews can get to the second level quicker than Steiny, because he can flat out pancake his guy with one punch! And, have you seen him run? He actually is sneeky quick! Steiny had trouble with stunts, penetrating big lineman, and gave up two of the most painful sacks in Bengals recent history.Granted, these guys are not going to do a lot of pulling, but this line is built for the AFC North division, and will prove to be Rudi's bet buds... I also think that Guychick is going to be freed up having that much serious beef on either side of him.

Some think he was indeed a replacement for Steiny, as he was the only guy left unsigned. It's also a little strange to label Whitworth as "not panning out" at RT, given that he's never been asked to play a down at that position. Who knows... Maybe they'll resign Andrews and play him at LG and move Whitworth to RT before it's all said and done... who knows - but they've been drafting O-Linemen with great regularity. I see no reason to complain. As for Steiny underacheiving... well, he did. His versatility has nothing to do with how well he performed at LG. Surely some of the blame should be put on Ghiaciuc... but Steinbach got bull-rushed back into Carson on multiple occasions last year. It got real old real fast. I'll give Steiny that he was a great pulling guard, but for a guy who is supposed to be known for his pass-blocking skills, he certainly fell apart in that area the moment Richie was taken from him. Kazkal
Whitworth as a replacement for Willie is a debatable issue. Some think he was indeed a replacement for Steiny,-Well I remember one of the reasons he got alot of praise early was he was so smart and could play any postion besides center,I think he's the short term fix for steinbach but I think once willie is done and whitworths contract is about to expire they'll pay him tackle money to play tackle.to label Whitworth as "not panning out" at RT, given that he's never been asked to play a down at that position. Who knows...-I'm pretty sure it's safe to say if Whitworth can make it at LT that he'll be able make it as a RT at his size...Maybe they'll resign Andrews and play him at LG and move Whitworth to RT before it's all said and done...-Aye Andrews should be much more affordable then steiny but I just think we'll take a guard day 1 in this or next years draft to replace whitworth when he moves outside ;. I'll give Steiny that he was a great pulling guard, but for a guy who is supposed to be known for his pass-blocking skills, he certainly fell apart in that area the moment Richie was taken from him.Agreed

It's also a little strange to label Whitworth as "not panning out" at RT, given that he's never been asked to play a down at that position. It's almost too silly to debate. If you haven't noticed Steakhouse is making excuses for Steinbach's play by pointing out how he was asked to play multiple positions, while at the same time he attempts to use Whitworth's versatility as a sign of failure. Better still, Steakhouse now claims that both Whitworth and Andrews failed to pan at as replacements at a position where the Bengals extended the contract of a Pro Bowl veteran. Most observers who harp endlessly about the offensive line wouldn't have to be reminded that it's a positive when players like Whitworth and Andrews can fill multiple positions if needed.
