Odell tea leaves

In today's Washington Post was this quote from an un-named NFL'er discussing Vick, the new poster boy for sub-human NFL players.

Here it is:

"I think you'll see something happen very shortly," the source said. "It would be a short-term solution. He wouldn't be going to camp, and then what would happen after that would be determined by the commissioner. The commissioner would never impose discipline on a player without meeting with the player first."

So if Odell hasn't bought a ticket to New York, he might be in camp quite soon. The NFL would look stupid giving Odell the same, or worse, punishment as Vick.

Seriously....is Goodell the only person in the NFL front office? If he was then yes he might be a little busy, but I'm sure he's got plenty of administrators that assist him with his duties. It's been nearly two months since Odell has applied for reinstatement. I agree with Kazkal...get off your freaken ass and give an answer already.

Oh yeah, thanks a ton Vick for causing a hold on Odell's reinstatment.....jack ass. :finger:

Can someone breakdown the Odell situation for me please? I know we're waiting on word from the commisioner but what does this actually mean? Is Odell waiting to hear if he's reinstated, meaning that he will be able to play game 1 or Does this just mean that he's reinstated but has more time to face or something completely different? Please fill me in.

Short answer:

Odell Thurman was busted for being a dumbass, got his second strike on the league substance abuse program, and is waiting to see if they are going to give him the 3rd strike or not. After the second strike and the year long suspension, a player must apply to be reinstated with the league, which Odell did. Then the commish, and ONLY the commish, must decide if the player belongs back in the league.

So now he, and we, wait to see if Goodell is going to give him another chance, or tell him he has already hung himself out to dry with his own arrogance in thinking the policy didn't apply to him by ignoring phone calls prior to the suspension.

In Mark Curnutte's latest:

The Bengals might wait to announce Thurman's reinstatement at their annual pre-training camp luncheon today over the noon hour at Paul Brown Stadium. Coach Marvin Lewis likes to control the flow of team news.

In other words, word may have already been received. Marvin could just be Marvin right now...

Per Bengals.com

Lewis, who unveiled his depth chart at Tuesday's training camp media luncheon at Paul Brown Stadium, wouldn't elaborate on the club's injury status beyond Perry or express concern that the league has waited so close camp to make a call on Thurman.

“I'm not losing any sleep over it,” Lewis said.

Bengals president Mike Brown is pulling for Thurman for more than one reason as he waits to hear for his application for reinstatement following his year suspension for violations of the NFL substance abuse policy.

“I hope we hear soon. Odell has been through difficult times. He's worked hard to bring himself back,” Brown said. “I do know one thing. If he can get back, he's a good player. When you go to court the judge decides when he's going to say what he has to say. We're just going to wait until the commissioner and his people feel it's time to say it. I don't know what all they're considering or why their schedule is what it is. They're the ones to ask about that. But we do know they're aware of the timetable we're on.”

I can see Odell missing pre season, but thats pre season.. lol

If Odell misses pre-season, he won't make the active roster until week 6-8. He has been out of football for over a year now. If he stands any chance of making the active roster, he needs every snap he can get in preseason so he can get himself back in football shape.

Ok. So maybe Odell gets reinstated. How do we know that he is in shape and ready to play football? Maybe he's been watching Springer reruns and eating chips for the last year.

This is a valid point but you would hope that an athlete's professionalism would push him to keep himself in shape.

Is there an testing programme that Odell must pass before Goodell decides on reinstatement? Could that be causing a delay if he has failed to supply (or pass) samples to the league? Just a thought.

Goodell,

The Cincinnati fan base is getting extremely actious on the situation of Odell's reinstatement. Can you please give us an answer, whether he will be reinstated or not, today. I personally am not getting any work done for I am constantly checking the Bengals website to see if you have taken any actions towards his case. I understand the asshat Vick is taking up all your time, but will you just sign Odell's reinstatement slip and pass it along. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter of concern and I hope you really enjoy your power of authority......Ass hole.

Sincerely,

Bengal4life

Dear Bengal4life,

You really don't want my answer right now. If I had to decide based on a letter from an asshat calling me names, I'd ban Odell and Chris Henry for life. I personally am busy with actually getting work done because my life is supposed to revolve around the NFL, unlike yours. You should spend more time paying attention to important things, and leave Odell Thurman's status alone.

I am constantly taking calls about how much of a punk he is, and I am making sure he knows good and well that we mean business. There is no simply signing a reinstatement slip and passing it along. I must weigh the value of allowing this young man to play in the league against the potential for embarassment to the league. I must decide if he is worthy to call himself a member of our fraternity. As it stands, he hasn't proven anything to me yet, but his patience speaks volumes. You'll have your answer, when I'm damned good and ready.

Sincerely,

Roger Goodell

GOD of the NFL

If I didn't want to hear your answer, why did you give it to me? You read into things way to much man. I don't know if you know anything about business but if your given a timeline you expect that timeline to be met. 7-10 days was the timeline in his situation. I didn't say a thing about Henry so stop putting words in my mouth and if you think your Goodell, then you need to take a visit to the psych award. Since when is the NFL a fraternity? As long as I've known it's been a business.

An answer from Goodell on this could be no answer at all, which means sorry rabbit, but Trix are for kids! The NFL IS a fraternity as well as a business. It is a group of men bound together not just as coworkers but as brothers in arms.

So every business is a coed fraternity?
