Cowher the next Browns coach?

Paying attention to Internet rumors is seldom wise, but the Bill Cowher-to-Cleveland rumblings officially have begun in that realm.

A Pittsburgh columnist added some fuel last week, addressing whether Cowher, the former Steelers coach, would consider returning to the league as coach of the Browns in '08.

According to the rumor, Cowher is said to have engaged in "secret" talks with the Browns, Panthers and Redskins.

Farfetched as that part probably is, Cleveland might be a logical landing zone for Cowher, who played for the Browns from '80-82 and was an assistant coach with the team from '85-88.

Expect the drumbeat of speculation only to intensify, especially if the Browns break from the gate 1-3.

How about if the Browns management and ownership just lets Romeo have a few years to fix that sh*thole of a team before they start firing everyone again. It would be funny though.

Crennel just needs some time and his players to NOT GET INJURED !!! They have had the worst luck of any team since, well, the 90's Bengals... If they fire Crennel, I will laugh even more than I already do at the Browns. If Cowher becomes coach, I will laugh endlessly at the Steelers fans who regard him in a God status. Personally, of the teams mentioned, Washington seems like a good place for him to go and replace Gibbs...

WHODEY !!!

Between Carolina being right in his back yard, and the fact that Daniel Snyder has to fix whatever probelm the Redskins have at the moment with cash, the smart money would be on those two spots before Cleveland.

I agree. I thought the Panthers were just biding their time when they kept Fox for the 2007 season. I think it would be a good move for Cowher since it would be in the other conference and he wouldn't have to deal with the backlash from the Steeler fans.
