membengal
From the muck-raking blog withleather.com, this:http://www.withleather.com/post.phtml?pk=3032In case any of you were wondering why I was not putting him in my mental LB-ing pecking order, um, the above would be why. Not much good can come from this, I suspect. Oh, and he remains, as ever, undependable...
HoosierCat
Sounds all-too possible.
membengal
It is what it is. If he were not already in huge trouble with the NFL, no big deal. Hell, as HoF points out, Porter likely to skate on orchestrating a flat out assault on Levi. But, given Odell's current hot water, and Goodell's hard on for punishing the Bengals, this is less than ideal. On every level.

HoosierCat
But, given Odell's current hot water, and Goodell's hard on for punishing the Bengals, this is less than ideal. On every level. It certainly is that, but any particular joy Goodell gets out of kicking Mike Brown is really beside the point in Odell's case. He's managed to get himself in trouble so far all under the pre-hardass rules. If this turns out to be true and charges get filed, he has no one to blame but the asshat in the mirror. SkinneymulleT
Dude looked pretty small. Cant see him confronting odell, or odell then kicking the crap out of him. His face looked fine, just a fat lip. Hardly felony assault. No arrest. His word against odell, if this is true. Smells a little fishy... I was simply passing along what is more than likely an early sounding of another issue. Do note where it shows the Monticello police investigating. That's a small town police department. We will likely hear more about this. With any luck, it's not a big deal. But, I wouldn't bet on it simply blowing over, either. The Bengals don't seem to get much of a break along those lines. And, again, you can yell at me all you want, but the fact remains, Odell, like Henry, has put himself on a razor thin wire, leading to stuff like this potentially being relevant. I don't like it any more than you do, but there you go.

If you weigh south of 175, and an NFL linebacker wants to grind on your woman, you say "Yes sir. Thank you sir."As for the legal issues: If it's true, the problem may arise when the guns come into play.
HoosierCat
You knew it was coming...PFT's take...BLOGGER TAKING A BIG RISK?There's a blog thing out there called WithLeather.com, which has said mean things about us in the past. Hey, we can take it. We've been called a lot of things in the past, some of which were accurate. But we never, ever, ever, ever (did we say "ever"?) make stuff up.Another thing we never, ever, ever, ever (did we say "ever"?) do is go with a tip that a guy has been arrested or committed any other type of misconduct that could damage his reputation, unless we have solid sources who have verified the information.Over the years, it has caused us to miss out on "breaking" many a story that eventually became public, such as the rumors that Joe Horn fathered a baby with Willie Roaf's wife. But, on the bright side, we've never been taken to People's Court (or any other court of law). It's one of the benefits of that law degree thing that the Poobah picked up 16 or so years ago. We know where the line of liability is, and we stay the hell away from it.On Monday, WithLeather.com is dancing on that line by going with unverified tips that Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman beat the crap out of some dude over the weekend, returned with a gun-wielding posse, and later tried to buy the victim's silence.Maybe the information is completely accurate and, if so, kudos to the site for getting the truth out there. But it's one thing to be wrong about a trade rumor; it's quite another to be wrong about something that inflicts even more damage to a guy's image than he already has inflicted himself. In this case, if the tip turns out to be embellished at best or fraudulent at worst, the folks at Fat Penguin Media will need to be ready to post a retraction before the process server shows up at the headquarters in Mesa, Arizona. And if the tip is on the money, it might be time for Odell Thurman to throw out his cleats, because he'll never, ever, ever, ever (did we say "ever"?) need them again. membengal
I gotta laugh over PFT trying to take a "high ground" here. If they had gotten that tip, they would have wasted no time running with it.

membengal
Hey, a**h***, I am a Bengals fan. I would think that is known. If you don't understand what I mean by the above line, then I will type slower for you.The Bengals', and Odell's, situation with the cumulative arrests and what not has made stuff like Odell potentially being in a fight, relevant. Their being high profile with problems leads to stuff like that kind of scuffle making national news. And, along the way, worthy of being noted here. So, and I truly mean this, go f**k yourself.Edited to add: By the way, since I am still pissed in general, I spent most of last off-season ignoring the rampant rumors surronding Odell. Which, it turns out, was a head-in-the-sand thing to do. Odell has earned nothing but concern when unsubstantiated rumors like this pop up. Doesn't mean I, or anyone on this board who is a Bengals fan is doing anything other than hoping there is nothing to it, but to pretend that it doesn't exist? Not me, not anymore. That's so 2006... DesperateDerelict
Hey, when I see it in national media, I STILL have to take it with a grain of salt. When some crappy blogger site attempts to 'scoop' the national media, all I can do is laugh. As your leather clad friend says, when Pasqualli gets ahold of it, it's news. All we are doing by discussing it here is legitimize it (somewhat). If Odell was cited, I'm sure the news vultures would have picked it up. Until then, as a purported Bengals fan, why don't you just let it alone?
membengal
See my edit above. Because ignoring it or "letting it alone" is simply to be wilfully ignorant when it comes to Odell and bad decisions. It is now far easier to believe this kind of thing when it comes to him than not to. That's on him. Hey, hopefully it didn't happen. Hopefully nothing comes of this if something did happen. But, and I do mean this, if I am Odell Thurman? I am nowhere near a gun, a party where there are guns, or, hell, parties in general. Given his substance program issues etc., there are very few good outcomes for him to be in or around parties right now. Particularly back in his home area, where, by every account I am aware of, his problems last off-season began.Seriously, tell me what part of any of that gives you comfort as a Bengals fan? Kazkal
I'll call BS till something official comes out,A bloggers get's the story before everyone else? I doubt it.
membengal
Kazkal, hope you are right. Then again, PFT, Deadspin, and the like say "hi"! Nowadays, e-mails and cell-phone pics from stuff like parties get disseminated right quick via those kind of bloggers much quicker than they get picked up on by national sites. That said, if the Monticello police leave this alone, we can all breathe easier. Then again, Odell at parties? That bothers the s**t out of me. He needs to be home on Friday nights. Period. It's the safest place for him to be at this point in his life. Sandwedge
I'm sorry but this has to be complete hogwash!! I think it was made up... Until a really realiable source prints it and the Bengals make it official... I'm not condemning the guy... Something smells fishing in Denmark on this one.. He's to close to reinstatement to screw the pooch on his career like this...
Kazkal
So wheres picture of Odell at said party? if this was going on I would think someone take a picture. It could be true I disbelieved the rumors about Odell last off season but I still prefer proof before all hope is lost in odell. membengal
Me? I would prefer a team to root for where there is not such a high percentage of players where the phrase "show me the proof" is the response to rampant rumors. I would be happy if there were, say, NO rumors because the team is full of guys NOT putting themselves in bad situations. But, hey, maybe that's just me. It's because of the searing national spotlight on the Bengals because of their continued poor decision - making that makes this so easy to believe, hence the national exposure. The zen have an expression when discussing paradigms: Even when you are walking away from New Dehli, you are still on the New Dehli Road. You must remove yourself from the circle, jerk (that's a joke!)As a footnote: I actually still believe in Marvin, and Marvin has been saying all along that if Odell is reinstated, he is last on the depth chart. JPW
The Monticelloo Police Department couldn't provide me with any details, and I got voicemail when I called the county courthouse. But you can expect to see charges filed against Thurman by the end of the day, and Len Pasquarelli will probably have the full story sometime later this afternoon.Well I know that it is a small town and all of that ...But unless the police department is closed on Sundays there has now been two full days since this supposed incident occurred.I think that if anybody was going to swear out a warrant or whatever they have had more than enough time to do so. Spor_tees
For one, that PFT article is pretty funny because it enabled them to print the info about Odell but did so without putting their own necks out on the line.Out of all the NFL players out there, why would someone take the time to make up something about Odell Thurman? I mean seriously, outside the fans of the Bengals how many other NFL fans really give 2 Sh*ts about Odell Thurman? That is why I think this story probably will turn out to be true.
