Bengals show interest in DT Kendrick Allen

I saw this on the Bengals.com. I can honestly say, I am not familiar with him.

Any thoughts???

......Bengals have interest in another of his clients, Packers defensive tackle Kenderick Allen.

Allen, looking for his fourth team in five years, is an agile 330-pounder who is coming off a foot injury that limited him to two games last season in Green Bay.

Allen, who turns 29 the week after the opener, came into the league in 2003 undrafted and signed with the hometown Saints out of LSU. The next season New Orleans cut him and after the Giants picked him up on waivers he played two seasons and 19 games there with 31 tackles and three sacks.

After moving on to Green Bay in 2006 in the second game of the year, Allen got hurt but Lewis said he received an MRI from the Bengals as well as going through a workout Tuesday.

Sounds like they picked him up for athletic ability alone. Can't seem to stick with a team, and is coming off what seems like a weight-related injury. I expect we're doing what the last few teams have done - "look at that big guy who can move - let's give him a look!" He'll probably get cut early, but since we have so many mediocre "proven veterans" at DT, might as well take a risky guy in camp and see what he can do.

I don't think they've actually signed him, they're just kicking the tires. My best guess for why is that they're just looking at what's out there in case Sam has trouble coming back from offseason knee surgery, or gets hurt again.

Though it's our typical aged DT's I like bringing in a bunch of DT's means who ever wants to be a starter will have to work for it and not be handed it ala JT/Brob.

I get the same vibe. It's "win now." And if all Marvin can bring in is bums, bring in as many as he can and hope one of them can pull his sh*t together. An Allen signing puts Fat Sam under the 'scope, and there's already Myers to contend with...maybe we can slap together a bullsh*t D-line and make a run before the O gets old...? One can only hope.

If Sam Adams can get in better shape and is ready following the offseason surgery, Allen/Adams/Peko would

give Marvin Lewis a combo like he had with the Goose and Big Sam when the Ravens D was at its best. On paper, the run d definitely looks better.

The d-line batlle during camp should be interesting.

I would like to know why the bengals are pursuing another veteran defensive tackle.....they have already signed myers and they have drafted toeaina, and already have bad veteran tackles in thornton and robinson..and they have adams and peko as well, what is with the overload??

Signing one more guy would put them over the top! >2000lbs -- or 1 ton of beef in the middle of our D!

I see these new DTs as inexpensive, mediocre replacements for our existing expensive, mediocre DTs....

translation....one or more of (Robinsn, Thornton, Adams) will be cut by the end of training camp

I'd hope the money would be used to extend Madieu, Ghiaciuc, or Whitworth....or maybe, just maybe....Justin
