skyline Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 ok, so according to bengals.com drafting a qb is a pretty good possibility. i hadn't really thought about it, but i guess it makes sense.if we do draft one, where would you like for us to get them, and who would you like to see drafted? Barbarian Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Answer: Pull a Mike Brown and trade up for Eli Manning!!!Just kidding. Quote
chrishcovga Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 In the 7th round. and get Rod Rutherford Qb, Pittsburgh. Quote
Bourgeois_Rage Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Yeah just grab a guy who's happy to be a career backup, have him learn the system and keep him around for a few years. This has been one of the major problems for the bengals fix it here. Quote

This has been one of the major problems for the bengals fix it here. I was just going to ask the question about who/what kind of player do you draft here. Do you pick up a guy who would be a good pro backup or do you try to get a guy that is good enough to start (whether Palmer is the future or not)? Quote
Jungle_Fever Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I think you want a guy who is good enough to play when need be. Its just a matter of how much you are willing to put in to it (draft pick wise). It is possible to get a guy in the later rounds that would actually end up being a starting caliber QB a la Brady, Warner. Developing a QB is never a bad thing. Quote
R-U-D-I Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I certainly would go no higher than the 5th round, we have too many other needs that we should focus on. Knowing Marvin though, if there is someone they feel is a real quality player that slips down, he'll take him... Quote

turningpoint Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I want thats BGSU QB, he took them to a national ranking a couple years ago and a 13-2 season last year, i think he'll be damn good he's done what Big Ben Rothlisberger has done in the MAC, but just a little less effficently, i'm looking for him as our later 4th round pick. Indycat Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Why draft a QB at all? Some NFL teams go with 2 QB's on the roster and, if he's needed, Kitna is as durable as they come. I'd rather see the roster spot used on the O-line where an injury could really put us in a bind. Quote
ntpou Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I wouldn't even draft one this year we have too many other holes. Look on the wavier line every year there is one there. Carson didn't even start the year yet. Quote
jditty47 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 get navarre or harris only if they drop to like the 5th...dont waste anything above that on them though. Quote
chrishcovga Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Why not simply resign Shane Mathews..?? NO ONE is going to offer him anything more than a backup role, and it's still not going to be more money than the minimum the Bengals offered.* He's a proven veteran backup - Good Insurance incase the unthinkable happens to both CP and JK.. plus he's cheap. - Do the professional thing. Up the offer a little bit, buy him a car, or get him and his family one of those cruise packages for a couple thousand dollars... Quote
EdwardG Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 If we draft a QB, I would go with a guy like Jeff Smoker or Matt Mauck in the 6th or 7th round. They have decent tools, and they are smart enough to make good backups. I agree, however, that it is hardly a priority at this time. Quote

He's still going to cost more than a 6-7th round draft pick or college free agent. Besides, give Zampese time to develop a scrub QB and when he moves(and let's face it, he isn't gonna stay our QB coach for but so long, unless he replaces Brat, he has a very bright future ahead of him) on he'll want someone that knows the offense and whammo, draft pick for what amounted to a scrub. JPW Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I would not spend a pick on a QB, or on a RB, or on a TE, or on a WR this year. But IF we were to, I would say Jared Lorenzen in the SEVENTH Round. Quote
jditty47 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 lol i would love to have lorenzen...not because hes a good qb but because hes the mother f*ckin man!!!! what is he like 350 and a qb???? Quote
