HoosierCat
Looks like McKenzie has torched his bridges in GB, and the Bengals are mentioned as one team interested in trading for him. I'd part with one of our seconds for the guy.http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/N...nolds042004.htm
skyline
hmmm. we would automatically owe him 2.3 million.wonder how that would hit our cap.
Jungle_Fever
Sounds cheap for a probowl corner back. Would eliminate the need to draft early on. I'm sure ML could find a way to make it happen if it came to that.

According to USA Today - we're still 3.7 + below the cap. Don't think Kitna restructuring did anything for us this year according to Bengals.com- We can fit him in I"m sure, and he's a good corner. Plus, I still expect Tony Williams to be let go come June 1st, in time for us to sign Daryl Gardner.

I'm sure ML could find a way to make it happen if it came to that. Another change this year is that the practice squad goes from 5 to 8 players. So we could take a guy (CB) at a lower round that we could develop and pick up a guy like McKenzie for a year or two until the younger guy might be ready. turningpoint
Maybe our compensation pick, and swamping spots in the 1st round?
ntpou
Hell I d give the 2b of our picks. It is the same as drafting one in the 1st RD. EXCase 1 Case 21st C.Gamble 1st A.Odom2nd J.Grove 2nd J.Grove2nd DL M.Mckenzie ( Pro bowl CB ) with size and experience needed no Learning curve needed :player:
kevnz
McKenzie does have a pretty low cap number, but that's one of the reasons he wants to be traded. If the Bengals could get him and the right cost...Oh hell yeah, But at what cost? Our first rounder? only if they throw in maybe a third or something, a second? definately...But he's a corner and he won't come cheap. ntpou
I think at the most I'd give them a 2nd and that itI. I thnk T.Owens was oringinally a 2nd to Ravens Dillon an 2nd thats fair
chrishcovga
Maybe our compensation pick, and swamping spots in the 1st round? Compensation picks aren't subject to trade use. The NFL's official policy is - Use them when we give them to you, because you can't do anything else with them...

HoosierCat
The latest from Green Bay. No word on any teams or price tag, but it looks like the Packers are gewtting used to the idea of McKenzie being gone.http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/p..._15795325.shtml
skyline
id love to see him in a bengals uniform. that price tag, though. id probably rather see us draft someone to develop at a much cheaper price.
wookie
So, say the Bengals make a trade with Green Bay and bring in McKenzie. Does that mean that Deltha O'neal or Tory James gets moved into a Nickel role? I'm thinking that Mckenzie is the better CB compared to both, but I'm not sure what the comparison between O'neal and James is. How would they line up next year if McKenzie is brought in? BengalszoneBilly
If the Bengals DO go after "Spuds" McKenzie, it would lend me to believe Mike and Marvin intend to make a playoff run sooner than most folks here would tend to believe. Otherwise they'd just work at it through the draft!
Barbarian
No way McKenzie comes to Cincy. He's too expensive and will get low-balled by Mike Brown. If McKenzie is disgruntled with an exceptional franchise like Green Bay--then how disgruntled do you think he'd be with dealing with the Brown Family??? I think you'd pencil in McKenzie and James as starters, and slot O'Neal in behind James.I don't really see it happening. McKenzie has an affordable contract (I'm not sure what the $2.3 million bit in the pfw report is all about, I think it may just be a brain fart on the part of pfw, a reference to the signing bonus hit they would take) owith 3 years left, but wanting a big payday is the problem in GB. Barbarian is probably right that that won't happen, at least not right now, with a bunch of picks to sign plus the rumored Gardener deal in the wings. That said, if the second pick in the second rolls around and we haven't taken a CB, and there's been a run on the position (which could easily happen) and everyone they like is gone...I could see a deal being struck. chrishcovga
Here's a little info about him :*http://packers.com/team/players/mckenzie_mike/from NFL.com - .http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133358According to Packers.com he's signed through the 2006 season, and he's unhappy with the contract that he signed. He thinks the Packers have cheated him some how.
GreenbergMan
I've watched quite alot of Green bay matches so mind if I give my opinion on him.I've always liked Mckenzie, he lacks blazing speed but he makes up for it with athletism. He does get burned sometimes but he definately doesn't let it get him down and he usually makes a big play to make up for it. He's really good smothering a reciever off the line but his main weakness is probably the deep ball. Another knock on him is his tackling but he really improved that towards the end of last season. Green play last year used agressive coverage where the corners ruff up the recievers, quite like New England or Miami, so he make take a short while to get used to the new rules regarding illegal contact. However he's athletic enough to make up for the rule change and he is definately worth the 56th pick IMHO.

The 3.7 million dollar number came from QIsports.com - the day after Kitna resigned.

The 3.7 million dollar number came from QIsports.com - the day after Kitna resigned. Kitna will be paid the same, but some of it will come as a signing bonus that's spread over two years so his number would have come down somewhat, maybe not greatly, but definately some. This really makes me want to have access to the secret site the NFL has for all teams that show the cap space every team has.
