Kazkal
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2007mockdraft3.0.htma freaking guard o_O
Stripes
I think Grubbs is the best guard in the draft, and that guard is the Bengals biggest offensive need.Would I approve of the Bengals taking him with the 18th pick or anywhere else in the first round? Hell no.Mocksters don't seem to do much research with picks like this. They see the loss of Steinbach, and choose accordingly.
HoosierCat
Grubbs, Blalock and OT Levi Brown have all popped up occasionally on various mocks. I think it unlikely in the first now that they signed Step, but if one of theose guys were to fall to us in the second (they won't) it'd be tough to pass on. Dawg BpG
Grubbs is a beast, and anyone who thinks back up players will step in and replace Steinbach are fooling themselves.but pittsbugh taking a WR in the first round...LOLI doubt it, but I hope so. HoosierCat
but pittsbugh taking a WR in the first round...LOLI doubt it, but I hope so. Me too but it could happen. The Bus is retired, Haynes is gone, Staley is gone, Davenport isn't the answer and Willie Parker is ridiculously inconsistent -- one week it's 200 yards, the next week it's 20. And without a reliable running game Toothlessburger is a liability.
Bobcat Bengal
Uhm, we've got Whitworth pencilled at guard.Jones, Whitworth, Ghiachic, Williams, Anderson. The Dancing Bear at back-up.
HoosierCat
Uhm, we've got Whitworth pencilled at guard.Jones, Whitworth, Ghiachic, Williams, Anderson. The Dancing Bear at back-up.The trouble is their announced financial policy regarding the o-line, specifically that OG isnt a position they will shell out big bucks for. Unfortunately, many other teams will, and that is rapidly driving up the price of guards. I think it will be very tough for them to re-sign Andrews, especially if he should win the starting job over Whit and play well (or play well in spot relief). Whit will probably stick since by the time his deal is up it should be about time to wave goodbye to Anderson, so the RT money will be there. But the bottom line is that if they aren't going to pay for guards, then the Bengals are going to have start drafting them fairly high on a regular basis -- say every other year, every third year at least -- in order to keep a continual stream of replacements in the pipeline. Stripes
Grubbs is a beast, and anyone who thinks back up players will step in and replace Steinbach are fooling themselves.Andrew Whitworth certainly thinks so. He looked fine last year (and he started many games). I'm excited at the loss of Steinbach, not worried.

The only problems he had at tackle were with the Dwight Freeney types. Now that he is at guard, he'll be even better. Carson is going to have the Great Wall of China protecting him. Three of the five starters will be 340lbs. or more. That's some beef!

(2 out of 3 years carson started) PS,Whitworth isen't a backup he was drafted to be a starter he also out played anyone on the browns line last year as a rookie LT. Whur CHad At?
I wouldnt be suprised if we picked Grubbs. Marvin Likes to suprise us. Only 1 of his first round picks has turned into a success. I wouldnt count JJ as a success yet.
Kazkal
Far from a bust though,If we pick a guard in the 1st round I'll give up my left nut,I could see it in the 2nd maybe if someone looked be a upgrade over bobbie in a year but if I was a betting man I'd put it all on were not taking a guard rnd 1.PS,if we were gonna take a round 1 linemen I rather see us trade down pick up a 3rd and take Ryan Khalil.
