JOHNSON GET $60 MILLION OVER EIGHT YEARS

The Houston Chronicle reports that the extension signed by receiver Andre Johnson is worth $60 million over eight years, and that it carries $15 million in guaranteed money.

And, amazingly, the new deal lowers Johnson's 2007 cap number by $6 million.

"This is a great thing for us because Andre's our best player, and he's going to be a Texan for a long time," G.M. Rick Smith said. "Not only are we ensured of keeping Andre, but we also cleared some room under the cap, so it was a win-win situation."

Great move for the Texans. TJ next?

Cut it out TJ is not about to get paid like that. TJ signed that contract two years ago, want somebody honor that contract they signed. I'm not getting down on TJ but people need to quit speculating that he wants a new contract.

PATS SIGN WELKER TO OFFER SHEET

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Patriots have signed receiver Wes Welker, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet. The deal is for six years, and has a value of $38.5 million.

Though we can find nothing reported on this, our guess is that the contract contains a poison pill provision that makes it fully guaranteed under circumstances that would apply if Miami matches, but not if Welker moves to New England.

Hey, some folks around the league might not like it, but the poison pill is the law of the land until the NFL and the NFL Players Association agree to language that takes it out of the CBA. So while on one hand it might be regarded by some in the league as "dirty" to use the poison pill, the fact of the matter is that you either do what you can to be competitive, or your ass gets fired.

If the Fins don't match within seven days, the Pats will send to Miami a second-round pick, the

Yeah, I just posted this one thread down. Pats gone wild.

I'm happy to see the Pats doing this it shows how a superbowl caliber team does not get complacent and not spend money in free agency, don't here them making excuses about injured players. Look at the seperation between the Bengals and the Patriots last year and look at how the seperation is widening before our eyes. Life must be good as a Patriot fan wish we could experience just a little of that in good ole Cincinnati. I was sick watching the Patriots disect us last year like they did with what i thought was mediocre talent on there defense, and not nearly as much talent on there offense as we possesed. The Patriots are one wide receiver and one cornerback from being straight up scary next year. Bengals step your game up because one of the teams on top just have stepped there game up. I guarantee the Patriots will be right back in the mix of things next year, can't guarantee that with the Bengals right now.

another one (from espn.com):

The Rams filled a potential void if wide receiver Kevin Curtis leaves by signing Drew Bennett to a six-year, $30 million contract that includes $10 million in guarantees.

Between bonuses and base salary, Bennett will pocket $9.5 million in 2007. He will earn $13 million in the first two years of the contract and $21 million over the first four seasons of the deal.

All that for a 6 year vet with one (1) 1,000+ yard season (and his next 2 best are in the 700s).

Sheesh. At this rate it isn't TJ we need to worry about wanting a new deal, it's freakin' Chad...
