Bills | Team to evaluate Spikes in offseason

Fri, 16 Feb 2007 11:42:11 -0800

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports the Buffalo Bills will evaluate the status of LB Takeo Spikes during the offseason to determine whether he can return to form after dealing with an assortment of injuries in 2006. "Coming back from an Achilles is always very difficult, and it may have led to other injuries like the hamstring and ankle," general manager Marv Levy said. "Takeo didn't have a year equal to what he had in the past. I think that's one of the situations that we have to address with the coaches and ask, 'How does he fit?' We're in the process still of evaluating a lot of it."

Interesting. Takeo fought hard to come back from injury and now Levy's pushing him out the door...I've always thought Spikes a bit over-rated but he's got heart to spare. Put a chip on his shoulder the size of Marv Levy's mouth and he might be good for one last hurrah...

...just a thought...

Hey fellas I'm new posting to the message board but have been following what you guys have said all season. Great information from some of you guys you are way ahead of the media, but to some of you guys you are worst then the National Enquirer with some of the crazy stuff. I'm from Cincinnati (Princeton)currently in the Marines stationed in Washington D.C. .

I had to address this topic on Takeo Spikes, no way in hell would we welcome Takeo back after Marvin begged him to stay. I smile now everytime I see Buffalo lose. You can have Mister I want to play in the playoffs Spikes, how did that work out for you Mr. Spikes. I hear alot of bad stuff about Brian Simmons and I agree most times but I respect him alot more then TKO, who jumps ship when the going gets tough, how about building up the team thaty drafted you. I would not be so hard on him if he would have left for a lot of money but the Bengals were willing to pay him what Buffalo was paying him, so the hell with TKO he did not believe in the Bengals and I don't believe in him. Moeller whooped our butts every year but never did I think of going to play with them even though I had an opportunity. Takeo is not the same player that left Cincinnati so don't think you are going to get that production out of him, how about we not be so open arms to these Benidict Arnolds that left as soon as they could. Takeo left as soon as that contract was up, don't tell me I would have did the same because big Willie and them was begging him to stay, you don't turn your back on your boys like that. I'm in the Military so you know that I'm big on loyalty, if he turned his back that easy on us then we were never home in the first place.

NO TO TKO

Welcome aboard, JB21.

I'd wager you're in the majority.

I always liked TKO when he was here, and if I am not mistaken when he left he still pulled for his boys in 'nati to win. I don't remember a lot of garbage talk about the Bengals from him, just that he wanted to win and felt he had a better chance elsewhere.

That being said, I believe now the Bengals want to win and have a better chance with someone other than Mr. Spikes.

Indeed. I have much less animosity for Takeo than for Corey Dillon.

He'd come cheaper than most given the injuries.

That's kind of my thinking. At this point, I think TKO would pretty much be in that "usual kind of FA bargain-basement bum the Bengals sign" category, so if they have to sign one (and they usually seem to feel the need to do so) why not him? But...may as well see if he's even available first. I still nurture faint hopes that, if the ravens don't tag Thomas, Mikey will stun the world by paying for him and Justin. Crazy, I know, but WTF, it could be done...

Wow, you guys dont want LaVar Arrington for his injury problems, but want TKO even though he has injury problems. Doesnt make much since. Plus he will be 30, and we have too many of those guys on our team

Theres only 1.5 years diffrence in Spikes' and Arrington's ages, so it isn't much of a consideration either way. As for injuries, Spikes' occured in 2005. He played 12 games, had 70 tackles, last season. Arrington is rehabbing from an October '06 injury. (Levy's mumblings sound like he's setting up excuses for letting TKO go.)

Not pimping Spikes, but if both he and LaVar were available, and the Bengals thought they had to sign one, TKO would be the better choice, I think.

Well spikes is 6months younger then Bsimm ^_^

What the hell is the difference in 6 months when they have been playing the same amount of years? Absolutely nothing, plus Brian Simmons has less wear and tear on his body. Brian Simmons has never had a major injury, the worst injury he had was that neck injury this year that kept him out of a few games.

I'm not all that interested in getting more aging vets on this team. Simmons is too old as it is. Add in lack-luster vets that are currently on the roster like B. Robinson, John Thornton, and Tory James, and it shows the importance of youth in the NFL.

My fear is that if we go after an aging vet LB, it will cause us to overlook LB in the draft (as has often been the case with our DT's). That said... if the Bengals decide to bring in TKO or Na'il Diggs, I won't complain, just as long as they understand that it can't possibly be a long-term solution. Having a few vets on the team to help bring along Ahmad Brooks (and possibly Odell and Pollack) can't be a bad thing.
