HoosierCat
I don't think the news regarding Mikey's comments on the financial future of the league are related to the Justin Smith situation... Just a topic of discussion while owners are gathered at the Combine.Maybe, but if so it would have been a waste of time. They have a meeting coming up on the issue in a month (at which I predict exactly nothing will get settled), why waste valuable combine time? Heck, I'm not sure how many owners are even there. In fact, it isn't even clear that Brown's comments were made at the Combine. Hobson's story places Mikey's comments at some indeterminate point last week (see the fourth paragraph). And neither his nor Curnutte's story quotes any other owners, though Curnutte apparently cribs a Wilson quote from a Buffalo newspaper. You would think Mark or Geoff might get a comments from a couple other owners if this were a big topic of conversation among the owners, or that other reporters would be doing stories about the subject, too. (I did a quick search and didnt find anything.)No, as far as I can tell this was only a topic of discussion between Mikey, Geoff and Mark. HoosierCat
Back on topic, I saw this blurb this morning: on nfl.com...Yet another sign of the big money that is going to be thrown around starting March 2. The Bills re-signed defensive end Chris Kelsay to a four-year, $23 million deal that includes $13 million worth of guaranteed money.Yes, that's a $5.57m/year average and $13m in guaranteed coin for a DE who averages just a skosh over 3 -- count 'em, 3! -- sacks a year. Yikes.A long-term deal with Justin is going to be seriously expensive...
BTG
23 million dollars for an average defensive end? Jebus! The league is starting to look like the NBA. How long until they start guaranteeing contracts?

How long until they start guaranteeing contracts?Heck, if those numbers are right, Kelsay's deal is nearly 57% guaranteed money. So I'd say they are well along that road already.
