Kazkal
What postion do you guys think he will play ? guessing probbley depends alot whos available in the draft....find a stud play SLB use him as mlb...find stud MLB use him as a Slb. Stripes
I'd say it depends on Odell. If he doesn't return, then Brooks will likely take over at MLB, and Marvin will focus on OLBs for draft purposes.
Kazkal
Will be intresting stance take on odell...even if they give him another chance really can't count on him to be starter so probbley draft guy who can play WLB and MLB. jjakq27
I don't think Mr. Brooks will be all that much next year. The guy was a starter and couldn't keep his job over Caleb Miller this year. Also I heard a small rumor about a missed or failed drug test. Just a rumor but around here that usually means something. Stripes
Brooks struggles when he was starting were primarily in coverage, and given the amount of time he had spent away from football prior to the Bengals drafting him... that was understandable. He just needs more time to make the adjustments to NFL football. Whether he can do that in time to make a noteable impact in 2007 is arguable, but I think he will.Under Marvin, I seem to sense a trend that defensive prospects are ready (assumedly so when they get playing time) to get on the field regularly sooner than most expect. Pollack, Peko, and Joseph are all recent examples.
ThortonMelon
Bresnahan said in a recent interveiw that Brooks wasnt active for every game in the second part of the season because he wasnt a starter and non-starters usually must play special teams in order to be active. This is especially true when you using two roster spots on injured Levi Jones and Rich Braham. When you join a team as a rooking in late July it is pretty tough to learn the system as a LB, and get into the special teams mix. I doubt Brooks played much special teams in college since he was the biggest star on the team.I'm not worried about Brooks. Give him a full season in the system and he will be a stud. HairOnFire
Also I heard a small rumor about a missed or failed drug test. Just a rumor but around here that usually means something. Does that mean Marvin Lewis is about to be named head coach of the Cowboys, and if so...how does that impact the rumors that he'll be named head coach of the Steelers? Since when do rumors usually mean something? If that's true, I'll take it as good news... because it means that when he's healthy next year, Tab Perry will finally be playing some safety (and LaVar Arrington will be our SSLB after that year with the Giants just to throw everyone off). skyline
He has the physical skills for MLB, no doubt. It's just a matter of being able to catch up to the game mentally. We'll see.

I usually don't get into all of the rumor stuff that goes on around here but I have heard that from two different people before the end of the season. Hopefully it is not true. Again I am sure we would have heard more about it by now if there was something more, but this person also told me about Odell just before the story broke last year. CarsonCity
I don't think Mr. Brooks will be all that much next year. The guy was a starter and couldn't keep his job over Caleb Miller this year. Also I heard a small rumor about a missed or failed drug test. Just a rumor but around here that usually means something.Yeah, since Brooks wasn't absolutely spectacular in his rookie year when he was very late getting into training camp, I bet he won't have an impact at any point in the future. Nevermind his college coach said he's the best linebacker he's seen since Lawrence Taylor... Caleb Miller got the nod over a very green rookie, so that means Brooks is trash. Oh and my friend of a friend whose cousin knows a guy who talked to Marvin Lewis told me your rumor is wrong.

Kirkendall
Here's the thing. And I'm not attacking you at all. Not even close. You know me Jak. We're pals. But if this rumor reached anyone in the press, this would explode. The media gets off when anything non-football related happens to the Bengals. Since you're the first I've heard this from, I'm going to sit back and just say that I think it's nothing. Then again, how many times have rumors surfaced that ended up having some truth to them? More than I would like.
jjakq27
I thought I remembered reading about the same thing in another post in another thread awhile ago. So I found this thread and someone named WretchedOne said the same thing. If it is true, step one is usually suppossed to be confidential and handled by the league. That is why it is not public news. It becomes public when guys get suspended four games as step 2 in the process.http://forums.bengalszone.com/index.php?showtopic=13970So I am not trying to create a stir here and hopefully it is complete BS.PS: It's good to see you around Kirk! My best guess is he first heard the rumor the same time I did...when it was first posted on the GoBengals message board by a fan who claimed to have a friend who knew a guy. hrod382
1st Ahmad joined the team very late all after being off football for virtually a year.2nd he had to practice at both SLB and MLB, only the week before the Tampa game did he start practicing at MLB.The tools are there, he just needs to get off blocks and improve in coverage. The guy is going to start off the year starting at either MLB or SLB, I have little doubt about it. He's got the potential to be the playmaker our defense so desperately needs (Madieu is solid but not that top notch guy).

JoePong
I think Brooks will play weakside before he plays strong side. We need a dynamic athlete at that position to rush the passer and make plays. I don't think they want to waste that ability having him cover TEs the whole game. Kirkendall
Personally, I think Brooks will be the new Stacey Andrews project.
Spain
Any news on how long it will take water boy to come back? He is going SLB. We need experience in the middle.
JoePong
What's this nonsense about Brooks playing SLB? That won't happen. The Bengals played him at two positions last season-MLB and WLB. He was practicing at WLB and then they moved him back to the middle because of injuries-where he said he was most comfortable. They never even looked at him as a SLB. And that's with Pollack missing the entire season and with Jeanty missing significant time (out for 4 straight games).
Kazkal
I never heard about him playing weak...he started out season till about half way as a SLB on the depthchart...Makes alot more sense then WLB because one of his strs is rushing the passer vs weakness in coverage.
