Pandre
The guy started off strong with 11 tackles in the Tampa game. Then it seemed like he never got any playing time. I am a big fan of this guy and think that he a strong furture in this organization. Can someone explain to me why he seemed to just fall off the face of the Earth? CBin2k7
I think it was a thing about him being out of position and not getting into the right spots to make plays or some other Marvinism about his rookie LB.I once read something about Ron Rivera of the Bears and his philosophies. It opened my eyes and proved to me that you can get the most out of players even if they are rookies. The Bears put their players in the proper positions to succeed. They teach concepts on defense, and the players only have to learn like 16 concepts and then they can go out and play and play fast. Once they have the 16 concepts down, they recognize formation breakdowns, Rivera believes in getting his players on the field and playing instead superscheming, they teach basics and master them. It was a fascinating read on defense, in that article it talks about how the Ravens and Pats do something similar. Bill Belichick believes in teaching concepts to players and putting them in the best position to succeed, because they know how to recognize formations, read and react and play defense.I don't care about injuries, I don't care about rookies, the good defensive teams, can plug people in off the street and they still find a way to get it done. I would like to hear Chuck and Marvin's philosophy on defense.I can't believe all the defensive coaches still have jobs on this staff. That defense took a huge slide after they had injury problems at the defensive tackle position. If the Bears didn't have Urlacher and Marvin did, we would probably have a better D than them, it's that simple.
ShulaSteakhouse
Who knows, I thought he would at least be able to beat out Caleb Miller at the MLB spot.I sense it's a matter of learning the system and knowing where to be, more than it is a talent issue. He needs to be paired-up with some knowledgeable, good LB's to be effective - certainly isn't ready to be "the man" yet by any means. After the time-off he had, suppose it took him a season to get back into game shape and adjust to the NFL as well.I always figured he was a high ceiling project that, if he works out, won't take too long to get back to the level he was in college. He makes it possible for the Bears to do a lot of the things they do on defense because of his ability to get pressure in the face of the QB and stop the run effectively. The point I am trying to make is that the philosophy is solid and enables them to get the most out of their defense, the Bengals on the other hand, not so much. jjakq27
I hope Brooks' issues are just those of being a rookie and not some other sinister situation (see Odell Thurman). They took a risk by taking him in the first place and giving up their third pick in the draft. I hope he is worth the risk.He seemed to have some presense about him but he is still raw. I think he stopped getting major reps during the skid in October. Hopefully a full offseason will help him.
HairOnFire
Pure speculation, but I thought Brooks struggled so much in pass coverage that he was replaced in favor of Caleb Miller, a player whose only real strength is pass coverage. Brooks playing time was further reduced after the more complete LB, Brian Simmons, finally returned from his near-fatal neck stinger. I'm guessing the Bengals are still pretty high on Brooks as his play against the run was pretty darn solid, but feel he needs another offseason of work within their scheme before they feel comfortable giving him extended playing time. GregCook
Marvin mentioned Brooks, along with other rookies that impressed, during his end of season presser. Marvin rarely talks about individual players during press conferences. I think the Bengals are counting on him to be a starter.
schweinhart
Brooks is best suited for SSLB, where his strength and quickness especially on run blitz would have served the Bengals well this year. He may develop into a MLB but he'll have to increase his range in coverage otherwise he'll have to come out in the nickel. Even then I doubt he could come close to the depth that Odumb got and will never match that kind of lateral pursuit or sheer quickness. DontPushMe
He wasnt good enough to be on the field this year. Should of been obvious to everyone. Next year though I expect him to compete for playing time. hes got the talent, he just came in way behind schedule.

Stripes
Heard rumors he failed a drug test. The last time I saw/heard something of this sort (Odell and PFT) I laughed it off as B/S. I almost wish I didn't know better now.

Kirkendall
I don't care about injuries, I don't care about rookies, the good defensive teams, can plug people in off the street and they still find a way to get it done. I would like to hear Chuck and Marvin's philosophy on defense.Just food for thought. Think Palmer and Anderson's comments that this team needs to rid of selfishness. Then think Brad Johansen talking about Deltha O'Neal and that he doesn't care to play football and doesn't care about the game. He's not a "chemistry" guy, etc.. I agree, a great system and you can plug people in and get the same measurable success. But when your guys don't give a darn, what else can the coaches do?
