Get off your HIGH horses!!!!

Paul Daugherty asks you to get off your high horse!

But can we please stop with the indignation? My goodness, it's a misdemeanor dope possession charge, not stealing the Lindbergh baby. Another favor: Can we not knee-jerk blame Marvin Lewis for this latest grown-man Bengal charged with a crime? If the last 12 months have taught us anything - beyond a deeper appreciation for the phrases "police said'' and "declined to comment'' - it's that people who believe people who play games for a living are somehow smarter, more humble and more respectful than the rest of us need to put their toys away and smell the reality.
We give these people all this money. We tell them how great they are. We tell them to go out for three hours a week and commit pointed acts of sanctioned violence. Then we expect them to act like accountants (or sports writers) when they're done. Right.

Is Joseph at fault? If he's guilty, of course he is. Is it worth getting bent about? Only if you like getting bent. Is it Lewis' fault? Of course not. Is it his problem? Definitely.

First, yes, this wouldn't even get any attention if they weren't professional athletes, and probably even then if they weren't Bengals.

To me, I don't care if he smokes dope. It's more about questioning the intelligence of someone who can't figure out how to not get busted. Come on, he told the cop he had pot in the bag! Exercise your 4th amendment rights, man! If the cop's asking you what's in the bag it's because he can't do it legally without asking.

Dumbass. The Bengals need to have a "Probable Cause" class during two-a-days next spring.

I think the officer had probable cause, but chose to ask for consent first. And probable cause is pretty easy to articulate with the heavy smell of weed in the air. It doesn't take much more than that. Although I guess Joseph could have waited for the K-9 unit to come, and then there would have been no doubt at all. If nothing else, by Joseph giving up the bag so easily, it gives me hope that this is his first time through the drill.

Henry is the dumass that messed up and slept through Con Law class (not to mention how to be a citizen class). He mouthed off to the officer in Northern KY, and the whole traffic stop went downhill from there. I've heard that if he didn't pull the "Do you know who I am" line, he would have gotten off with a warning.

By the way, my buddies said that Henry was at Mainstrasse Village on New Years Eve after the game drinking by himself at the bar. Wonder if he had a DD? Wonder why none of the other Benglas were there with him? Some dumbasses will never, ever learn.

Public figures need to operate, live and respect the fact they're in the public eye and represent the organization that is paying them millions, be it the NFL as a whole or the team. This is the sacrifice you make when you make that choice to step into that limelight.

What they do in public is very visible and under a microscope.

There is no comparison between an "accountant" and a multi-millionaire celebrity athlete.

This is 101 Journalism stuff Daughtery.

It does bug me that people think Marvin should levy fines and punishment on his players - all he can do is keep them off the field during games and practices ultimately. The union won't let him do much more than that.

Yeah it's his problem ultimately, he needs to foster a better environment amongst his team, work on team unity, and quit drafting people based purely on athleticisim.

Palmer eluded to this in his comments today - Ted Bruschi doesn't run a 4.4. forty time, or have a 40" vertical, but he has a few SuperBowl rings.

Tom Brady was drafted in what, the 7th round? Ask him about his rings.

Look at all the playoff teams and there's no "freaks" on these rosters - just good, sound, smart players, reliable guys, mixed in with a few superstars.

Marvin needs to draft and develop his players better, period.

Nine arrests in one year must be some kind of record? I imagine these guys were getting away with stuff while in college and they simple continue with it. Its human nature, you do something illegal long enough, you figure you're too smart or you'll never get caught. Fine, fire away at Marvin, but these kids just didn't start drinking, smoking, brawling or stealing when they came to the Bengals. College enabled them. Look down in Div-I schools, that;'s where the problem wasn't solved, by coaches that have near total authority over their players.

It started way before D-1. It started when these guys were in 6th grade and their coaches were petitioning the state athletic associations to let them play high school ball....And then they started getting free stuff because they were good. And they started getting passed through classes because of who they were. And they started seeing that "good in football" meant hot girls.

It all adds up to an inflated sense of self-worth and ego and indestructibility. Mess up? Someone has always been there to get them out of it. Some of these players have no sense of how things work when they need to be responsible. They've been taught that irresponsibility will not stop them from getting what they want.

Why Dont YOU look, because you obviously missed the SuperBowl bound Bears, and their

Walking Weapons Factory--Tank Johnson who was arrested Dec 14, when the police "Raided" his house and seized 550 rounds of ammunition(must have been for self-defense) then 2 days later was at a bar where his friend/Bodyguard was shot and killed.

By the way, the NFL is allowing Tank Johnson to play in the SuperBowl....

WOW...you named 1 guy, seeing that there are 32- 7th round draft picks every year, taking into account that there havent always been 32 teams, still there must have been around 1,000 7th round draft picks in NFL history....And youre trying to make a point using Brady as an example.

So youre saying we should try to find players like that ? Problem is, they are, like I said, 1 in 1,000..good luck
