Stripes Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/o...807bengals.html By Chick LudwigStaff WriterThursday, January 18, 2007 CINCINNATI - Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese is in Charlotte, N.C., interviewing for the Carolina Panthers' offensive coordinator post, the Dayton Daily News has learned. The position opened on Monday when the Panthers fired Dan Henning. Carolina has already interviewed two in-house candidates - Jim Skipper, assistant head coach/running backs, and quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy.Zampese is under contract with Cincinnati through 2007. But the Bengals gave Carolina permission to interview him. He's credited with the development of Bengals' two-time Pro Bowl QB Carson Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 NFL draft.Zampese becomes the second highly-sought-after Bengals' assistant. Wide receivers coach Hue Jackson was named the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator on Jan. 8. Cincinnati filled Jackson's position on Tuesday with the hiring of Mike Sheppard.Zampese, the son of longtime NFL offensive coordinator Ernie Zampese, was an assistant coach at Miami University (1996-97) before entering the NFL. He was an assistant with Philadelphia (1998), Green Bay (1999) and St. Louis (2000-02) before joining the Bengals. Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I would hate to lose him, but he certainly deserves a promotion. Quote
AMC Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 It's only a matter of time before we lose him of course.Funny how our position guys are moving up but not our coordinators....Hmmmmm.....Easier to do I guess.... Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I would hate to lose him, but he certainly deserves a promotion. If he goes, that would make two position coaches promoted as offensive coordinators. Not a bad legacy for Lewis.. or would credit go to Bob Bratkowski? Quote
Kazkal Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Preatty suprised steelers OC promoted before brat...even though brat has his flaws were talking bout steelers offense here.would credit go to Bob Bratkowski?credit goes to the HC ;p he either brings them in or lets them stay on the staff. Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 credit goes to the HC ;p he either brings them in or lets them stay on the staff. My point is that it's about the system... not just the HC allowing someone to stay. Quote
schweinhart Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I'm not sure there's much credit warranted for any of them when the team goes 8-8 and pukes out with grand point totals of 13, 13, 13, 16, 17 etc.Zampese can move on w/o the Bengals losing anything. Hue was a bigger hit but Shep sounds like he'll fill the void for both if Zampese goes.Or else somebody give Kenny Anderson a call. Quote
jditty47 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 the negativity is sickening around here. congrats to zampese for his potential shot, and congrats to marvin and brat for their part in it. Quote

There is an article on Bengals.com talking about how Kenny got the axe in Jax and still wants to coach. Quote

Zampese? I'd say Kitna made more of a difference than he did as a QB coach. Quote
Kazkal Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 If we did lose zampese...it would suck hardcore if brat got promoted to HC because we lost the 2 people who would replace him.Or else somebody give Kenny Anderson a call. wacko.gifHey now woulden't be that bad PS,Hey let's bring kitna in as a QB coach! HoosierCat Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Per Hobson, the Panthers appear to be set to hire QB coach Mike McCoy for OC. So it looks like Zampese stays. Quote
MacD BengalFan Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Zampese? I'd say Kitna made more of a difference than he did as a QB coach.I have a tendency to agree. Carson's performance tappered off from last season and Kitna was the only person missing. I think he was a huge influence on Carson's development and performance last season. Yes, the O-line took some injuries this season, but I think if Kitna had been present, Carson might have adepted better to the changes on the O-line with Kitna's leadership. Quote

Now Sheppard can just stay with the WRs and we don't have to shuffle everyone around to hire someone else. Quote
Stripes Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 The 49ers are rumored to be interested in Zampese (among others) to replace Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator.http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...francisco_49ersNolan also indicated he will consider candidates outside the organization. One possibility could be Cincinnati quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese. The 49ers would need to get permission from the Bengals to interview Zampese, whose father, Ernie, was an NFL offensive coordinator and an early mentor of Turner. Quote

DO YOU EVEN FOLLOW THE BENGALS? If you recall the last half of the season, he did just fine(minor understatement) without the leadership of the shot putter, who imo you are trying to give credit to for doing nothing but being replace by a better athlete and tried to make the most of his benching by trying to play Mr. Miyagi so he could look like a club house guy so he could get another job which he did and he still sucks! Kazkal Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 where does it say they rejected them? if so owned! lol Quote
