Kazkal
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2723489Sweet,but I have a feeling he'll be the 1st DE off the board and we won't have a shot at him >_<
schweinhart
Same thought here Kaz but even if that it so, it means Gaines Adams falls -- probably not all the way down to 18 but someone else will. Who it be?
Kazkal
Well if adams and anderson both gone preatty much same people as before Moses/woodley....though mybe give us little shot at Branch(doubt it) because more teams could use a good DE also need a DT.Rams,Redskins etc.
schweinhart
Just can't see 'em picking Moses or Woodley that high.I'm thinking more about CB. Revis is probably gonna drop because of his straightline speed but he's a skilled cover man and a PR worth having. Cason ? I keep seeing him up against Cal's DeSean Jackson and while he fared well against that kind of break and speed he still showed some vulnerability. Leon Hall? Definitely got the quicks to swing slot and isn't a terrible man corner. Too high for McCauley IMO.
Kazkal
Which corner would you want out of them ? : P agreed on woodley and moses....Only way I could see moses is if he has a awesome combine and they think he could make switch to OLB and be last years manny lawson.something was thinking about since he was recruited as a WR think he could play OLB in the nfl? could be the next shawn merriman. schweinhart
Maybe Chris Houston, who has also declared.http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2007/01/...0807uafbnfl.txtHouston says he was told by the evaluation committe that he is a projected 1st or 2nd rounder. Course they're not always right and Chad Jackson was projected as a 4th rounder last year. But Houston has fared well this year against some of the best receivers in college and shows a lot of quicks combined with physical play. He looked like the real deal. The article has got Jamaal evaluated as a 2nd rounder. That's good and maybe will shoo away some teams from nabbing him before the Bengals can consider him in the 1st. Whur CHad At?
and he will be a second rounder
schweinhart
A 2nd rounder is what he'll be if the evaluation committee is right. But he was probably viewed primarily as a 3-4 DE -- and a lot of 4-3 teams don't have a DE as big as B-Rob like the Bengals do. Even if only 3-4 teams consider him I can't see the Jets would let him pass by in the 1st. He's 1 of the Top 5 physical freaks of this draft and he's added 65 pounds in 3 years since he switched from WR to D-Line.http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/16461
Kazkal
Ya and if he still has that athletism its hard thing to pass.it's like the panthers taking Peppers.
schweinhart
Not sure the kind of athlete Julius is comes around too often....He's an unreal freak. But Jamaal is in the same athlete class as say Charles Grant, who was a RB at Georgia until he got his ACL tore and should project as the same type of 4-3 DE on the left side as Grant. But Anderson is bigger and stronger than Grant and the biggerFREAK BEAST
Kazkal
Freak beast I like it
schweinhart
Freak Beast eats QBs. He's going to have to be developed though and that trio of sacks he had in Arkansas' bowl game all came with a 5 down linemen front with him wide over mostly the TE....he won't see it that easy in the NFL. He looks heavier than 280 to me though, which is going to make it tempting for whoever drafts him to kick him inside, especially with that reach. Gotta figure 3-4 teams are going to love him. kurgan74
Daymieon Hughes from Cal might be available at 18. Along with Quinn Pitcock, Lamar Woodley, and either Poslunsky or Patrick Willis. Any of te 5 would be great with me. Of course, I would not mindDT Red Bryant if he declares. Stripes
I'd be surprised to see Anderson projected in the first round at this point. Of course, no projections are very acurrate before the combine, so I'll wait and see.If the Bengals end up with Adams or even Moses in the first round, I don't forsee myself complaining. Well, I won't say that yet either.
schweinhart
I hear you TDB, especially since Jamaal's early entry evaluation appears to have been 2nd round. But his eventual draft position boils down to how he shapes up against the other top prospects at his position, which is Adams but most likely not Moses, who is on the verge of losing his 1st round appeal if another similarly stlyed DE comes out early in Jarvis Moss. And if it comes down to physical tools, I would say the edge goes to Jamaal who from what I've seen is bigger, stronger and quicker than Gaines. But when it comes to polish and use of skill set at this point, I'd say Gaines has the edge. Now how this gets viewed by mock drafters is another deal. But if how the mocksters came around to JaMarcus Russell at the QB position is any indicator about how physical tools and ceiling ultimately play out at the DE position this year, then Jamaal has a good shot of at least being projected as the 1st DE off the board. Why it wasn't so long ago when only an idiot would have projected JaMarcus in the 1st round, much less the #1 overall pick. If you look at the mocks now on the BengalsZone draft database, I believe you'll find that half of the 24 have Russell as the #1 overall, a total of 19 have him going within the Top 10 and all but 3 poor misguided souls don't have him drafted in the 1st at all.So yes, let it play out. Spor_tees
I thought this guy retired after having knee surgery. Man he was a pretty good and over looked running back with the Falcons.

HoosierCat
Not to rain on the DE-in-the-first parade, but I have to think that the Bengals' handing $34m to Robert Geathers reduces the chances of it happening.I mean, we now have five DEs under contract -- Junior, Non-Dairy Dessert Rucker, Fear the Fanene, B-flop, and Hype Henderson. Plus there's the possibility of Lord Potential re-entering the DE mix. I could see them waving goodbye to Robinson, but that still leaves a bit of a pileup. (And obviously if they manage to re-sign Ju$tin $mith, forget it.)I think the draft may have just swung back, at least a bit, toward DB or LB... Kazkal
only way I ever saw DE if justin walks and they have to be a stud. Btw hooiser that idiot was named schweinhart who now looks like a genius ! I'd almost swear hes the 1st person who said jamarcus would be 1st overall pick a few weeks in the season

(And obviously if they manage to re-sign Ju$tin $mith, forget it.)I think the draft may have just swung back, at least a bit, toward DB or LB...Yeah the length and sum do seem to commit the Bengals more squarely even though they still could've probably counted on Jumpy the next 2 years anyway as a RFA and UFA if they wanted. The other 4 DEs under contract provide for good scrum but being an IR, a PUP and a PS player not sure there's enough there for the Bengals to confidently plan around them. Re-signing Justin would put an end to most of the DE discussion combined with the kind of coin they forked out for Jumpy but there still is one DE factor to account for and that is the ever present, ever loving Marv trademark of a DE who kicks in to play DT. It was there when Frazier was the DC and every play was a stunt and it's still there with B-Rob and Fanene. With B-Rob in his last year if they don't ax him, he'd be the one to replace through the draft since neither Jumpy nor Justin would (or at least should) kick in.But I'd agree the draft priority would look like more CB or LB in the 1st unless Jamaal Anderson is sitting there at #18. Why? He's got the sheer size to be both DE/DT, maybe even at the same time And speaking of idiots...just saw on the ESPN where Helmethead has ranked Jamaal Anderson in his Top 5 at #5 behind JaMarcus. IOW, maybe Jamaal is a 2nd rounder after all.
