bengalsfansince68
Marvin talked about Odell not being in his plans at his end of the year press conference. Maybe yall should listen to some of them. Bye Odell I listen to Marvin's press conference every week. I did not remember him saying anything about Odell not being in his plans for next year so I went to the site and watched his press conference of 01/02. The only thing that he said about Odell was the same thing that he said from the beginning. Marvin said that Odell is under suspension by the NFL and was not part of this team. In addition, he said that anything he could say about '07 would be speculative.Maybe you should listen to what he says without projecting your own thoughts into it.If Odell comes back and makes plays as he did in '05, you, like everyone else who wants him gone, will cheer him on, as I will. Jonboat
Christ, just bleeping forget about Odell. Does this look like a guy who has the ability to stay clean in the NFL? At the rate he's currently at, he will never play in the NFL again. He can't stay clean. Guess who that sounds like? Ricky Williams. It's just not worth the crap trying to get the guy clean, planning around him only to have him get suspended. Again.Every day it seems, somebody starts another Odell thread. He's not playing for the Bengals again. He very well may not play in the league again at all. Looks like there was a reason the other 31 teams passed on him. He's not good enough to justify the crap.Thank you!! Man, I wish everyone would just let this go. He's not coming back. The sooner everyone accepts that, the better off we'll be! Maybe... maybe not, the fact is we don't know now & won't until next season. I wouldn't put much stock in ML comments about Odell not being part of the team because he's not... he was suspended all year & you know ML isn't going to give info to the media until he has to & esp. so soon after a disappointing season I'm sure Odell is the last thing on his mind. I also wouldn't put much stock into Laps comments about him being chunkier it wouldn't be unusual for someone getting clean to gain weight. How do you know he's not clean now? Dont they step up the testing with each violation & continue testing during the suspensions? wouldn't another failed test been reported already?I have to disagree that he's not good enough, the man is a playmaker & was considered for the DROY exactly what this D needed this year.I'm a little surprised we have'nt heard anything from the media about him during his suspension but that may be a good thing @ least he hasn't been arrested .Maybe we have'nt heard nothing because he has been in a treatment center then again maybe he's laying in a gutter in Georgia some damn where! That's alot of speculation huh? The fact is I don't know... you don't know & WE won't know until they have to make a decision. Personally, I think they don't have much to lose by keeping him if he screws up again he's out of the league right?See this is the kind of thing that we need to get away from. I agree that it is a good thing that he hasn't been arrested. But for crying out loud, why isn't that a given instead of a pleasant surprise???? I'm beyond sick of hearing about every one of these rich spoiled brats getting themselves in trouble and putting themselves (and us) in danger. So I guess if Odell goes another month without getting arrested, that we should extend his contract then. Right? Heck, if he goes until next season without getting arrested, why don't we give him a lifetime guaranteed contract!God. Just go away. I don't care how much talent that piece of crap has. Unfortunately for him, he had the world by the nuts and totally effed it up. I'm particularly angry about this right now because of all the time that we've spent trying to make excuses and defend these players who have every reason in the world to simply not get arrested. Makes me sick Who's making excuses? Did you read my post because all I was saying is there's alot of speculation & I don't know what they will do with him neither do you. We won't know until next season because he's on suspension, they can't just cut him. If he stays out of trouble & comes into mini camps in shape let him compete for his job, make him earn his way back on the team. If he screws up again so what he's gone for good & I don't think the team can be anymore embrassed than they are now. They wouldn't have to give him an extension his year suspension don't count so IF he is on the team he'll be in his second year of his contract. You may not care how much talent he has but the team/ML has made it pretty obvious they do or they wouldn't keep getting these guys. What did they do shortly after ML said he was going back to being a hard ass? They signed a guy who had been locked up for a year! I was at the Pitts game & for all the people on their high horses when Henry got the long pass to set up what should've been the game winning FG I didn't hear anyone booing him nope 60,000 strong was going crazy! I bet you wasn't though you was probably shouting that piece of crap shouldn't even be on the field . Whether you like it or not this is what the league has become. Look around the league the Bengals are not the only team with these issues & won't be the last. I agree some of these guys are idoits & spoiled but it is what it is. No sense in whining about it. Character issues was only the tip of the iceberg there was many other reasons for not making the playoffs.
Jonboat
There's no risk. Play himNaah, there's plenty of risk in bringing him back inFirst off, management risks coming off with the message "It's OK if you do drugs. We'll take you back in a jif, as soon as you do your suspension" and thus damaging the rest of the teamSecond, any practice time Odell is given eats into the practice time that woudl go to his replacement. If you are 100% certain he' won't last the year, cut or trade him, and spend the money and time on developing his replacementThird, Odell drags teammates along with him, pulling them into his world of substance abuse. You don't need a bad player creating bad situations for you other players. Finally, Marvin has made it clear he's DONE with this fellow. If management says "no, you have to take him back" they stand to severely alienate Marvin. Are you serious? You can't be 100% ANY player will be there all season ie.. Pollack,Weathersby etc.Yeah Odell is the Devil he drags these guys out of the locker room into his personal hell of Drugs,Drink & hookers get serious man geez!!!Management wont tell ML to take him back the NFL will . I'm sure ML knows rules of the CBA like the back of his hand by now!!
kentjett
Shawn Merriman is one DUI away from having the same suspension as Odell but nobody is even questioning whether he will still be with his team. His team didn't even bother benching him for any games. Odell likes to party a little bit, a lot of people do when there as young as Odell. He is in a do or die scenario so I would expect him to stay clean. Merriman was caught cheating and should have been banned for longer than 4 games. Cheating in order to make yourself have a advantage over every other player is bulls**t. Imagine if the NFL had these rules in play when Lawrence Taylor played, he would have been banned after the first couple years in the league. Odell will be a Bengal next year because the reward definately outwieghs the risk. Odell has a personality that everybody likes and he does everything at full tilt, including his partying. I beleive he will be as straight as a arrow for the next year and he'll start on special teams and then work himself into the starting lineup by midseason. Chris Henry is far worse to me, he is a immature thug ( fake gangbanger) whereas Odell is a guy who likes to have a good time but takes everything to the extreme. If he screws up again, the league will make a decision for us so we have nothing to lose. You can say our organization could suffer another embarrasment but it can't be any worse than everything we went through last year.
sparky151
Finally, Marvin has made it clear he's DONE with this fellow. If management says "no, you have to take him back" they stand to severely alienate Marvin. And if we had any reason to believe Marvin, I'd agree. I just don't buy it. If Marvin really had made that decision so long ago, I doubt he'd have been so clear cut about it. It's just not his way of business. We're not supposed to know what he's doing, and hence Odell's status remains in question despite Marvin's hinting otherwise. You obviously dont understand the NFL policies, neither Marvin, nor any other Bengals official can officially cut Odell now, without having a grievance filed with the NFL players association. However, when his suspension is up, they can cut him if his abilities have diminished, or just cut him and "say" that its because of his physical shape/playing ability. At this point, they can say he will, or wont be back, but until his suspension is lifted, they cannot officially do anything without facing actions from the NFL, and the Players association. Rather than sending the wrong message the entire off-season, Marvin's only choice at this point is to say that Odell is not in their plans, and just wait and see. The Bengals are perfectly free to cut Thurman if they want to. What the CBA prohibits is teams imposing their own punishment for drug offenses, instead the league handles it. Mike Brown could come out tomorrow and say Odell is embarrassing the team and won't be back. Any other team could pick him up too. There's no restriction on cutting a player who is under suspension, he just has to finish the suspension with his new team..

Comments on his physical status last I saw/read were that he was overweight and soft.No idea if the light clicked on for him yet, or if it will, but we are all just guessing at this point.Obviously a healthy/focused and sober Deltha and Odell would go a LONG way to getting the defense back on track next season. Those are literally their two most talented guys on defense - and they're both bums unfortunately.Marvin traded for one and personally drafted the other - I blame him for not being able to motivate and control the players he is responsible for bringing in here. I don't care how much Marvin blames his staff or others for his shortcomings.Get it fixed Marv.
agreen_112
I've changed my stance on Odell's situation a couple of times. At first, I wanted to keep him. Then I seen what Palmer went throught to get healthy to play this year and got pissed that Odell just didnt' care... Now it's a new season and a brand new day IMO. I say keep him. We're not going to get that kind of talent for the price we're paying him, so I say keep him and see what happens. We don't even have to make him a starter, make him earn that position back, which if we do keep him, he WILL get that spot back...
