Reds don't want to improve

Lack of offseason wheelings and dealings has made many Reds fans feel like they aren't trying to improve and don't care about winning anymore. They wanted to go after a SP, but haven't done anything yet, and they keep aquiring over the hill players (Jeff Conine). Looks like a another blown season from the Reds. Bah Humbug

Any new news you've got for us? The only shot the Reds have this year, and I mean THE only shot, is for Homer Bailey to come up and make an instant impact. And that's not happening.

This upcoming season for this team is just a "get it over with" season. They want to give their younger guys, Votto, Bailey, Bruce, ect. more time to develop, so the year after they can plug em in the big leagues. We are going to be terrible this year. And we're not going to make any attempt to get better. But, I think the future looks pretty bright. And we have some sweet uniforms! :sure:

I'm surprised to see this after what we saw last season from the new ownership. I don't think there's any question they have been making strides in the right direction. But from Krivsky's history with the Twins, you know he won't be looking to build the next team of superstars. He's going to look for bargains.

I wouldn't put signing a big name pitcher past him, but he's not just going to go after anybody with a recognizable name. He'll want it to be the "right" guy for this team.

The "right fit" for this team will probably a 38 year old on his last leg with 10 arm surgeries behind him.

The Reds are terrible and their attendance will suffer dearly.

Why such doom and gloom???

Building the Reds in the mold of the Twins is a good strategy. Given the previous regimes total obliteration of the franchise, Castellini and Krivsky will get the job done. It will take a little time to get to the level of the Twins but hovering around .500 in the meantime is realistic I suppose.

I also wouldn't put all of the franchise's hopes and dreams on the arm of Homer Bailey. That's just asking too much from one player. As with any team player development from within is the key, and the farm system needs to be strengthened all around. Bruce, Votto, etc are nice but having 3-4 prospects that are a couple years away is not a good sign. This organization at the AA/AAA level is very thin thanks to Jim Bowden and Dan O'Brien.

On a lighter note...The Indians signed Keith Foulke to close out games for us, Joe Borowski for some pen work, are close to signing Mark Mulder (why do we need 4 lefties I dunno but who cares). We traded for a young up'n comer Josh Barfeild.

They also signed some bumbs, but who cares....

IF they stay healthy, look out AL central!!!!

Am I the only one that doesn't expect the Reds to suck that much this season? I don't think they'll be in the playoffs, but I forsee another hot start/crappy finish type year. 75-80 wins should be doable, for what it's worth.

See my post above. I am with ya TDB.

I won't believe it about the Cubs until it happens. I remember quite a few seasons where people have said to watch out for the Cubs, and it just never quite pans out.

Here's hoping the trend continues!

Can anyone tell me when Shula has had anything positive to say about both the Bengals and Reds? I am beginning to think he is a closet Steelers or Cubs fan.
