Call me a homer, but...

This season reminded me a whole lot of several that they went through in the 80s. Up and down affairs where they shot themselves in the foot and missed the playoffs more often than not. In particular, 1985, 1986 and 1989 come to mind, playoff worthy teams that didn't do what it took to win the extra game they needed. It's deja vu (all over again)...

Who we got on the schedule next year, I don't know where to find it. I wouldn't mind a 2005-ish schedule instead of the hell on earth one we had this year.

This team had the talent to, and should have, won at least 10 maybe even 11 games this year. There's no doubt in my mind that we can win 12 games next year.

What the heck, I'll one up ya.

13-3. Who Dey.

This is refreshing.

Before I went to the game today in my bengals gear, I told myself to just relax and enjoy it because it's not in our hands. This is of course figuring we'll win. I cheered, and then I stood up, then while I was up, they ripped my f**kin heart out.

But, I was dead set on thinking that we can clean up a lot in the offseason. See how Henry's grown up. See what we're gonna do with Thurman, and give Palmer a season to actually focus on his knee rather than sit at home with it up on a footstool while he watched price is right.

I'm looking forward to next season. The hard part may come tonight IF the Broncos lose. But.. None the less... This team is full of talent. Get rid of some assistant coaches and let's roll...

Definitely blind homerism is running rampant.

Barring some unforseen impact players arriving on the defense, I see

another battle to possibly squeak into the playoffs next year. Where is the pass rush, run stop, and shut down coverage going to come from needed for a 3 or 4 loss season going to come from with the upcoming schedule?

I can understand his dismay. I think it may be clouded with thoughts of Graham kicking wide right, St. Louis blowing a snap, or Justin Smith getting called for pass interference on a sack. The Bengals have struggled mightily to finish games this season, and expectations that such a problem (or the other problems he mentioned) will continue are just as valid as our own optimism.

I attribute this failed season more to injuries, unforced errors, and Chuck more than anything else. I firmly believe that 2005 was a more acurrate representation of this football team's quality than 2006. We'll see next year.

Scooter,

I'm not a pessimist, but am trying to be a realist. What do you see to make you think the team will perform that much better next year?

There were several games that the Bengals were kind of lucky to win this year. Being dependent on favorable turnovers is a tough way to win consistently.

Maybe you think the problem is purely scheme related, I think the personnel are a big part of the problem. Stopping the run in the NFL is a function of physical ability and desire. I think we're lacking in both areas to be considered an elite club.

If you can point out my folly, kindly proceed. I'd like to be convinced the team is on the way to becoming the next powerhouse.
