agreen_112
Can someone break it down for me? There's been so many damn injuries to the offensive line this season that I've completely lost track. I don't know, I mean our line looks like swiss cheese. Who's hurt? Who's out for the season? And who'll be back ready for the last two weeks?
CJBestInAFC
Okay Levi should be back next week against the Broncos, which will help and from watching last nights game Whitworth is a right tackle. Stacy Andrews is a Guard, and if Willie is out for the Broncos game they should move Whitworth to RT and play Levi at LT. Braham I have a feeling will not return this year, and probably will retire. It would be great to sign him as an assistant coach. Ghiaciuc is decent and has been improving with more playing time. I think the Bengals are in good position at the C position with Ghiaciuc and Wilkerson. I still think it was a mistake to resign Willie and they should have been giving that money to Steinbach, then they would have been able to move Whitworth to RT next year, and the starting lineup next season would have been Levi, Steinbach, Ghiaciuc, B. Williams, and Whitworth.

Cmon man, we need Big Fatburger Willie, he's the heart and soul of our team. Losing him would be like Pittsburgh losing The Bus.

How anyone can watch that game last night and think we are better off without Willie Anderson is just beyond belief.Well, that's just the point. We are clearly better with Anderson in the lineup -- but he wasn't in there last night. Older players are more susceptible to injury, and take longer to bounce back. So, does it make sense to give an aging RT a big extension when the odds are good that he will be more and more hampered by injury, or do you look in another direction (for example, Whitworth) and use the money to retain younger talent? The Bengals chose the former, and time will tell if it was the right move. What we did learn last night is that Stacy Andrews has a lot of work to do if he hopes to fill Willie's shoes. How anyone can watch that game last night and think we are better off without Willie Anderson is just beyond belief.Yeah, and idiotic comment, considering Willie was, and always has been the most solid, reliable Offensive Lineman. He has played like the Pro-Bowler he is this season, and he'll be back soon. You act as if he is in his 40's or something...He's only 31 yrs old...Would you have gotten rid of Anthony Munoz when he was 31?Rich Braham got injured this season. HE'S 36. he was fine at 35/34/33/32.etc.. OL are play well into their mid/late 30's. I got an idea, why not tell Baltimore to get rid of Jonathan Ogden ? he's 32. what a dummy...here's a little fact that may interest you--Last years AFC ProBowl Offensive Lineman----------------------------------------------------Willie Anderson 31 yrs oldAlan Faneca 30Tarik Glenn 30Jonathan Ogden 32Jeff Saturday 31Jeff Hartings 34Brian Waters 29Will Shields 35Willie Roaf 36 Now do you see how utterly STUPID that comment was?---want more? okay----I'm on a role......lets look at some of the NFC's ProBowl Lineman from last year------------------------------------------------------------------------Larry Allen 34 yrs oldSteve Hutchinson 29 tell Minnesota they were wrong signing him...... Dude is a Beast Walter Jones 32Orlando Pace 31Olin Kreutz 29Chris Samuels 29Robbie Tobeck 36Mike Wahle 29If that information I just gave you doesnt say that your opinion is COMPLETELY MORONIC, I dont know what does.Compare all of those players ages... How anyone can watch that game last night and think we are better off without Willie Anderson is just beyond belief.Willie can't play forever, and is a weekly walking injury update - I don't think the issue is Willie's effectiveness, but how wise it was to re-invest him in for any period of time like they did.At some point you have to start looking at replacing him - Whitworth is a good candidate for now.I also cringed at the Levi re-signing, predominately due to the fact the guy is always, always hurt, just like Braham and Willie. They are no reliable.Guy-chick is nothing special, if not below average, neither is Williams.Time to draft some interior lineman or sign one next year and get another back-up tackle, if the situation to upgrade presents itself, and Steinbach is not resigned. If you can't protect Carson Palmer - this team is garbage, as you saw last night. HoosierCat
How many games has Willie missed this season?Just last night's -- and just when we needed him badly. Which, again, is just the point: is that an abberation, or a sign of things to come? The Bengals put their bet on the former. We'll see in the next couple years if it was a good bet or not. If Anderson stays a steady starter, it was; if he collects more and more dings -- and he has played through a variety of knee and foot injuries over the last couple years -- and has to sit more and more often, the deal will start to look less good. JoePong
Dude, the future is now in the NFL. Teams try to win now. If you're constantly planning for the future, you never win a damn thing. Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, and this entire offense is in their prime right now. The window is open RIGHT NOW. You don't know what the state of this team is going to be a few years from now. You don't waste all that becasue you have a few fans who want you to be cheap. Teams dont just let ProBowl Tackles leave, because they are few and far between, and usually take time to develop.Plus you guys seem to think this is baseball or basketball...This is the NFL...Contracts are NOT GUARANTEED...Depending on the bonus money, they usually work it out to where a part of that will be guaranteed if they play, but usually not even half----Example---Levi signed a 6yr $40 million contract, but only had $16.3 of that in guarantees(provided he plays)...If Teams release Players before July 1, only a portion of that players salary might count against the cap, not all of it.........And Remember...the Salary Cap increased quite a bit starting next season. HoosierCat
Teams try to win now. If you're constantly planning for the future, you never win a damn thing. If you don't plan for the future you'll never win anything, either. And whether signing Anderson to an extension was a good idea or not is immaterial to "now." His previous contract still ran through the end of this season. No one, anywhere in this thread, ever suggested that we should have then, or should now, cut him, or anything like it. The question is whether showing Willie the money and not, for example, Steinbach, will look like a good decision in, oh, three years. If, for example Steiny walks, gets signed elsewhere, and does nothing special while Willie stays a solid starter, it will look smart. OTOH, if Steiny goes elsewhere and becomes a Pro Bowl guard while injuries begin to take their toll on Willie, it won't look like such a good call.Levi at 27 has missed time this year because of injury, so has 30 yr old Bobbie Williams, but yet you guys want to throw in the towel on 31 yr old (only yr older than Williams) Willie Anderson?Read what I wrote above. Who, anywhere, has spoken of throwing in the towel on Willie? You do realize that he was a Bengal in 2006 whether we extended him or not, that he was still under contract for this year? All we are discussing is whether this plays out well down the road. It might. It also might not.
