Spor_tees
Well that sounds like a lot but you have to take out any contract incentives players may get from making the ProBowl, SuperBowl, certain stats, ect. Then you have to take out the tenders for restricted free agents and the rookie pool. Which I'm not sure how the drafting of Ahmed Brooks affects that because he counts as the Bengals 3rd round pick in next years draft. Does his salary count on this years salary cap or next years? If it is this years and not towards next years then that means the Bengals save some money from having one less draft pick. Hopefully the Bengals will still have lots of room, but then you still don't know if they will use up all the cap room they have, or if Mike Brown will decide to save himself a little money. In a perfect world, the Bengals would give Geathers an extension, resign Justin Smith, and resign Steinbech. In free agency they would sign Tony Gonzalez and maybe a veteren DB. And finally in the draft they would take a young DE, DT, and third a RB to groom for the future behind Rudi.
Larry
Gonzo? It is a nice thought, but no real. I would love to think he would, but I can't believe there is enouph football to go around. We run to many three reciever sets.

I would love to think he would, but I can't believe there is enouph football to go around. We run to many three reciever sets.Well after playing in KC for long he finally wants out and is taking an option out of the last year of his contract. Like many guys that has so much success in his career he is looking to close it out with the one thing he doesn't have, a Super Bowl ring. If the Bengals give him the best shot at that next year, I'm sure he would take a little less attention in the passing game in order to get what he needs in a championship that will also give him a better shot at making the Hall of Fame. I would love to think he would, but I can't believe there is enouph football to go around. We run to many three reciever sets. Why not? The Colts last year got the ball to Dallas Clark a significant number of snaps, despite running many 3 wide sets. He would also add even more explosiveness out of the base 2 wide set. Besides which aren't Tony Stewart and Reggie Kelly's contracts up at the end of this year? Why not upgrade by signing Gonzo, then draft another TE to study under him before he rides off into the sunset? Of course, all this assumes he doesn't want to return to the Chefs and would be interested in signing with us. I don't know how possible that is... What we need to do now, is start a mailing frenzy of fan letters to Tony G. letting him know how much we want him in Cincy next year! It would be like Michael Vick signing with a team that runs the West Coast Offense. Er, intentionally.
agreen_112
Gonzo would be nice. We need defense. So IMO, don't think it'll happen. We'll sign a huge defensive FA. Hopefully a LB! Adalius Thomas, OMG that would be sick.
kentjett
You guys know we are not going to get Gonzo, wishful thinking. Daniel Graham is extremely underrated. He blocks better than any other TE in the league and he has great hands. Graham is right up our alley. I would be pumped if we were able to bring in Graham, sign Geathers, bring in a veteran LB that can provide leadership ala Ray lewis ( wishful thinking), and draft some stud defensive lineman. I know Ray isn't a free agent but I remember him not getting along w/ management last year and Marvin might be able to lure him away. Whur CHad At?
Ray won't go anywhere because of the teams recent success. Lance Briggs is a good option to go at Linebacker, and I have NO problem signing Graham. The guy can catch, and block. THats all we need. Kazkal
Resign reggie bring in Graham for TE's.Sign Briggs ot Thomas (I'd like Briggs because hes younger for our young defense) but Thomas is such a stud dude plays WLB and weighs 270. CJBestInAFC
Two Words.Adalius ThomasI like Adalius Thomas a lot and would be player that the Bengals could use if Pollack doesn't come back next season. I think Graham would be the best option at TE for the Bengals, and the Bengals won't have to break the bank to bring him to Cincy. Gonzo is great, but how much are you going to have to pay him? bengalboomer7
Agreed. Forget Gonzo, our offense is fine, & is putting up another season of extradorniary numbers.Adalius Thomas would be great, and would also help weaken a division opponent. lance Briggs would also we a nice combo. I think you can go after one, but not both. Then draft as many Dlineman and secondary help as possible
Whur CHad At?
I really like Adalius Thomas a lot, he is a stud. But he is getting up there on years, and we need someone(Lance Briggs) for the long term. Now I wouldn't be dissapointed at all if signed Thomas, but I prefer Briggs. rwalling
If Daniel Snyder has taught us nothing else hasn't he taught the importance of moderation in free agency?Let's take care of our own (they know the system and we know them)Add a single key piece or complementary depth at the right priceand build a program not a group of overpaid egomaniacs that can't win.Let Washington, Oakland and the other knuckleheads fight over Lance Briggs and the rest of the gloriously famous and overpaid. If you want to be more like the Raiders, Redskins, or even the current Yankees, good luck with that. I prefer the course we're on.
Wraith
Adalius Thomas just turned 29 (8/18). He is in the prime of his career and has a good 5 years left in him, oh and short of Shawn Merriman he is the best defensive player in the NFL, sign him cause the Ravens can't afford to franchise him. However... it just seems to go against my principles to sign a Raven.

Jonboat
I agree focus on the Defensive side of the ball Biggs will probably be too much for us, Thomas would be nice & I'd really like to see them make a run for Asante Samuel. Even if we don't re-sign Tory for cheap (he won't demand a large contract anymore) KK has played admireably as a nickle in Deltha's absence. We're much more likely to draft another CB than to pay for a high priced FA.I'd be in favor of spending the big money on a DT... but we have shown time and time again a general unwillingness to do so. What does that leave? LB... which we are in pretty desperate need of. Pollack may never play again (and if he does may only be a shell of himself). Odell is more than likely done as a Bengal. Simmons is getting older and slower before our eyes. Being that it appears to be Marvin's favorite position to focus on, it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that we would spend money on one.Briggs will most likely be franchised if the Bears don't reach a contract with him before then. Thomas though is an intriguing option. Baltimore doesn't have enough cap space to retain all their big names (They are in a win-now state of mind). It will be interesting to see if the Bengals would be willing to enter a bidding war on a player that will surely be in high demand. I doubt it. I think you can go after one, but not both. Then draft as many Dlineman and secondary help as possible I would've been completely in line with this a few months ago. But our 3rd receiver spot is very up-in-the-air. I put Henry's chances of being in the NFL next year at about 50-50. Chris Perry is still as much of a ? as ever. We have the Gazelle and Tab, who will hopefully be healthy. But would you really feel comfortable banking on any one of these options? There does seem to be a need for a reliable #3 receiving option. That said, priority definitely still lies with building our D. Still holding out hope that we draft a safety this year.
