Madden 2007 for the Playstation 3

Just got my Playstation 3 yesterday, and no did not over pay for it on EBay- got it from pre-order at Gamestop. Just got done playing Madden 07 using the Bengals as my franchise team. Here is a quick review:

The Bad: Gameplay is a little choppy, a lot of the same old Madden stuff: Computer doesn't do squat for awhile then all of a sudden they throw a few long bombs that you can't seem to defend. Crowd is still a bit fake, they stand the entire game and pretty much just cheer no matter what happens. The sound gets a bad review, hard to believe they did not make this game in Dolby Digital, it plays as Stereo PCM no matter what kind of connections you have. Not exactly bone crushing sounds coming from the speakers. Picked up Reistatance for PS3 also and that not only has DD, but also backs THX. PS3 uses wireless controllers and one thing they tried doing was making the controllers a bit similar to Nintendo Wii by having them sense movement, this attempt fails when you are on defense because one of the plays is if you lift the controller up toward you your defensive line can do a quick jump on the route, the problem is if you pull up to soon you will get hit with an pentantly. I got about 10 of these in the first game before I realized I needed to hold the controller absolutely still until the play started.

The Good: No more Madden voice overs! Not sure if this is due to fact they may of rushed this out, but they make it sound like you are listening to the radio broadcast of the game. It is actually kind of cool because the guy doing the game cheers for the Bengals. Playcalling menus are cool, it is probably the same on XBox360 but they have a full playbook of what seems like about 500 offensive plays. The stadiums look a lot better, good use of the scoreboards, especially the ribbon board at PBS. Bottom of screen shows the score, down, and flashes up to the minute player stats which is cool. They did get rid of the screen showing scores of other games while you are playing your game, never really paid attention to that on old versions anyways. Have not figured it out yet, but one big thing PS3 was pushing over the XBOX version is the ability to 'gang tackle' a guy in the PS3 version.

Overall: Can't wait for Madden 08, I believe XBOX360 users went through this same thing in the first version of Madden06 since EA Games did not know how far they could go with the system.

I'm not a 360 fanboy either alot of gaming I did was on ps1 and PS2...I plan on getting ps3 mybe like 2 years when they fix all the glitches and its more reasonable.... but its just really not impressed me so far all launch titles are crap(best one is a clone of fear).they threw alot of stuff in at the last second trying rip off the other systems...the motion thing is just retarded for regular controllers.

Another thing is they released it knowing it was still having alot of problems so people are paying 600 + dollars to beta the system...Theres a reason why their putting out such low numbers of the systems. Nintendo had 2million on launch day your telling me ps3 coulden't get 1million made for japan and US by christmas?

I think 360 is byfar the best nextgen system right now, though WII is worth the money its bringing new experiances to gaming I can't wait for online mario kart lol.

Alright, Maddenites, TDB has some questions/concerns.

I've been playing the Xbox 360 version of Madden 07, and it has been driving me insane. I'm playing in Franchise Mode, and almost nothing about it is realistic at all. Through 13 games, six quarterbacks have ratings over 110.00, Tomlinson has 2200 yards rushing (6.7 YPC), and my rookie tight end with only 11 catches is the frontrunner for ROY.

WTF?

Individual games are no better... I've tried adjusting the difficulty up to All Madden and have tinkered with the AI settings, but regardless of what I change, the same things happen. I've won every game, and almost all of them have been ridiculous shootouts. 42-41 games get old very quickly.

For example, say I've held a team without a touchdown halfway through the third quarter. Suddenly, their quarterback turns into Dan Marino, and he is handing the ball off to Barry Sanders every play. The two are unstoppable, and a previously normal football game becomes a stupid video game.

Any suggestions? 16-0 every season is boring, and 1,000 yard games are stupid.

I'm dealing with the exact same things.

I have a solution for ya. Buy Gears of War.. best first person shooter not named Half-Life I've ever played -- which includes Halo.

I do have that game as well. I'd say I prefer Halo, but GoW has been fun too (co-op especially). I get sick of the AI partners acting like idiots though, rolling around aimlessly through crossfire.

Co-op is a freakin' blast -- someone call Johnathan Joseph!!!! And the "A" button (taking cover and aiming while under cover) is the best feature in a first person shooter I've seen yet.

Agreed. I think they got the idea for that concept from some of the old arcade shooters that had the same thing... You'd press a pedal down with your foot, and the character would take cover while you shoot/reload/whatever.

Man, I'm super jealous right now! The distributor and valve cover gaskets went bad on my car and I just had to pay $479 for that BS. I was going to buy my PS3 with that money.... Oh well.

Nice review... I didn't plan on buying Madden 07 becuase it's ported from the 360. It sucks on the 360 as well, or should I say as you can see by other posters reviews... Wait until that '08, you'll be satisfied and so will I because I'll have my PS3 by then.

Don't let 360 fanboys spoil your purchase of the PS3, trust me, it's the better system. Do you have an HDTV? IF so, one word to the fanboys.... BLURAY! It's a new day and age in video and HD is the key. Sony will kill microsoft on not just one front buy two. Yhey will be #1 in game software, and #1 in Bluray disc sales over HD-DVD (Sony owns Bluray for those of you that didn't know).

What cables are you using to connnect to your TV? Don't use the one's that are supplied in the box if you have a HDTV... You will not get HD. You have to buy the PS2 or PS3 component video (Red, Blue, Green) cables.

Try turning down the sensitivity of the six-axis in the options, it'll fix the problem your having with the players jumping the gun. It's a nice feature once you get used to it... The six-axis is really sweet as hell... Wait for Ace Combat to release and take advantage of the Six-axis...

Anyway congrats on your purchase! If you don't have a HDTV, that should be your #1 priority.
