bengalboomer7
I don't disagree with you. Let me say that I'm not a Florida fan, and I'm more arguing against the system than against USC. But I don't think your nieve enough to believe it's just a computer formula working thi out, Derek
Stripes
But I don't think your nieve enough to believe it's just a computer formula working thi out, Derek I am. It's a computer formula coupled with the Coach's Poll and the Harris Poll. Coaches have nothing to gain by voting based on revenue, and the computer portion is entirely mathematical. Also, while I wouldn't like it, the NCAA and the BCS would absolutely love the financial possibilities with an Ohio State/Michigan National Championship Game. If money were involved, I really think Michigan will still be square in the #2 spot.

It's a computer formula coupled with the Coach's Poll and the Harris Poll. Coaches have nothing to gain by voting based on revenue, and the computer portion is entirely mathematical.I am also that naive. There is no reason for me to add to that, because TDB nailed how the BCS works pretty well. If it were ever discovered that the NCAA tampered with the computer portion of the BCS... well, let's just say it would be a big enough controversy and prison-time (because of the big dollars involved for which schools are involved in the BCS games) that it just isn't worth the risk. If there is any blame to be handed out... it's with the AP poll, and that is self-correcting because there are so many voters.
bengalboomer7
The AP has no impact on the BCS, so I don't know what that would have to do with anythingBut I don't think it's just a computer figuring this out.And Ohio St/Michingan would'nt be the biggest game, TDB. USC is LA's pro football team, and also happens to be the seconnd biggest TV market in the US. That would easily generate more money, and I believe that's part of the reasoning behind USC being #

That would easily generate more money, and I believe that's part of the reasoning behind USC being #2Fine... the Harris poll. My bad.Anyway... This is how the BCS works:To derive a team's poll percentages in the Harris Interactive and the USA Today polls, each team's point total is divided by a maximum 2825 possible points in the Harris Interactive Poll and 1525 possible points in the USA Today poll.Six computer rankings calculated in inverse points order (25 for #1, 24 for #2, etc.) are used to determine the overall computer component. The best and worst ranking for each team is dropped, and the remaining four are added and divided by 100 (the maximum possible points) to produce a Computer Rankings Percentage. The six computer ranking providers are Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin, and Peter Wolfe. Each computer ranking accounts for schedule strength in its formula. The BCS Average is calculated by averaging the percent totals of the Harris Interactive and USA Today polls, and computer rankings.http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball/polls/bcsThe NCAA doesn't tamper with it.. or else, as I mentioned earlier they would be in big trouble. Auburn would have been able to sue the NCAA for not getting a chance in a national title... because they lost out on a lot of money due to the results. And if there is any other question about it... look no further than the LSU/Oklahoma National Title game, when USC was the team left out. Do you really think that if the NCAA had a hand in it, they would have left the aforementioned "LA's pro football team that also happens to be the seconnd biggest TV market in the US" out? No... they wouldn't. Computer formulas did that... to the dismay of the NCAA's wishes.
PMThor
Goldangit. Now I see USC having a letdown and losing to UCLA.I do not want to play michigan again. Not because I think OSU will lose to them, they won't, but there are other teams that deserve a shot at my Bucks.Hmmm. Sometimes I get headaches because my brain is so smart and insightful. I am very intelligent.Thank you for the forthcoming accolades. How dare you root against OSU? How dare you!!By the way, you would want michigan to lose, and embarass their players, so that they drop in the draft so Cincy could scoop them up late ala Kilmer. Yeah I said Kilmer. I have his jersey now. Sweet.Yep. Drinking.

bengalboomer7
Now it's gonna get funny. Florida just jumped ahead of Michigan in the coaches poll (Tressel chose not to vote, very smart move, IMO.) despite not playing. Right or wrong it looks fishy. People need to worry about picking the two best teams, not sorting the mess out themselves. This is a bad scenairo for the BCS any way you look at it
ShulaSteakhouse
Tressel's vote wouldn't have and didn't matter.I do not understand the whole controversy over him not voting - he simply did not vote, because as the #1 team who just beat the #2 team, he probably felt a conflict of interest, and figured no matter who he voted for, he'd get crap for it regardless. He was put in a very unique situation, and the sports writer geeks and talk show hosts love to go nuts over the BCS ad nauseum every year, will use anything Tressel does in that situation to go off on him.Scoop Jackon's article on Tressel, on ESPN Page 2, was weak. His argument and rationale are weak, and highlights the silly hatred for Tressel, that I'll never understand.I don't love Jim Tressel or think he's God, I simply respect him and the way he gets things done. People don't like Tressel or OSU outside of Ohio, because they're jealous, a national case of penis envy - OSU is not supposed to be the next college dynasty - that's reserved for glam schools like USC, according to the rest of the nation apparently. Tressel is too quiet and too boring to like I guess. So they criticize every move Tressel makes that's remotely controversial - no matter how he does it.They want a re-match with Michigan because people believe the last game was a fluke that needs to be played on a neutral field. I doubt OSU would get the same benefit of the doubt had it been in reverse.Even OSU's National Championship was attempted to be tainted by those crying about the "phantom" pass INT call in the end zone - and every time I see that replay, and be as unbiased as I can possiby be - I still see blatant pass INT that you HAVE to call in that situation, no matter how ticky tacky, rules are rules, and he interfered with the WR. If you're good enough to win - then you don't have to do that as a Miami player. If you're better than the Buckeyes - then beat them. Michigan didn't. They haven't 5 out of the last 6 games. Sorry Buckeye haters - you can't make excuses for that.Bring on Florida. The rest of the whiny, Buckeye hating country can kiss our a$$es.If Tressel voted for Michigan, he would've been blasted by the SEC fans and writers, if he voted for Florida, the Big Ten schools would call him out for not standing by his conference or being too fearful for a rematch with Michigan. If he votes for Michigan - it's telling his team that he thinks their victory almost wasn't deserved. If Tressel goes by the book - Michigan just lost to the #1 team, and why in God's name should they get a chance to play them again a month later for the Championship? This isn't baseball.I side with Tressel on his no-vote, screw everyone else, they'll complain any way.
schweinhart
This is a bad scenairo for the BCS any way you look at itThe only scenario that wouldn't create even more clamor for a playoff system (or at least a Big 10 conference champiosnhip game at a neutral site) is a Gator win over the Buckeyes. Then the BCS might look more like an effective method of determining a national champion.

If OSU were to play floridas schedule, they would be lucky to come out with 1 loss, I dare OSU to play LSU, Arkansas,Auburn, Florida State, Alabama, lets see here those 5 teams right there already make Floridas schedule tougher than OSU's already. Now dont get me wrong I hate Florida being a Cane fan, but after being ripped off by OSU in Tempe, I hate them more. So who did OSU play, hmmmmm that powerhouse Northern Illinois.....7-6, Cincinnati Bearcats,LOL, BOWLING GREEN, LOL, get real ladies, I would be real worried about Florida, considering how much your girls struggled against Michigan, and Henne is not as mobile as Leak, and Florida is used to mobile qb's since they play in the tough SEC, so dont think that heisman winner (Joke) is gonna be the difference. History shows Heisman winners playing in the Title game dont fare real well, first name that comes to mind Gino Torretta against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Bama mopped the floor with Torretta. I hope you Buckeye fans dont take Florida serious, you will be in for a big surprise!!!!!

I don't understand why people use that crap as argument material.I'll grant Florida had a tougher schedule overall than Ohio State, but still didn't have any games as tough as @Texas or Michigan. The team ranked #1 in the nation is ranked that way for a reason. The only reason you have any complaints is because Chris Gamble got interfered with in the first overtime four years ago. OSU INCLUDED!!!! It may be fact it may be crap, but its truth, and truth lies in numbers, and who you played, I guarantee this years OSU team could not even stack up against other national title winners, National Title winners dont have a cupcake schedule. Just wait, Florida will give your girls a reality check right in the mouth!!!! GO GATORS!!!!!! BRING THE NATIONAL TITLE BACK TO WHERE IT BELONGS!!!!!!!! and again speculation equals fact, look it up about the Heisman winners, thats why it should be handed out after the bowl games!!!! bengalboomer7
Curt, you just don't pay attention taht much do ya. First off, you blindly compare Florida's conference schedule to the Buckeyes nonconference schedule. Florida played powerhouses Cenrtal Florida and Western Carolina(division I-AA school BTW) and the always dangerous Southern Miss We played Michigan at home because it was our turn. Every year it switches, and BTW, we beat them @ Michigan last year. Also, this is the only team EVER to play two #2 ranked teams in the regular season. Never has happened before, and after we beat Florida, it'll be three.Face it, Curt, you are a Hater, through and through

Just thought I'd highlight some more of your speculation. Some Heisman winners in the past have indeed struggled in the title game, but it is complete speculation (and in your case, rabid Buckeye hating prayer) to expect Troy Smith to struggle accordingly.Instead of just shouting like a toddler, provide some supporting arguments. Why would the Buckeyes have gotten smeared in Ann Arbor? How is the Big Ten down this year? Why couldn't the Buckeyes stack up against other recent championship game participants? You're just spewing jumbled guessing, not making an argument.
schweinhart
Far be it from me to fan some flames but OSU shouldn't have cakewalk -- at least for the 1st half. A big reason Florida hasn't been as good as it could be is because Chris Leak continues to be the QB. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Urban Meyer come out with Leak, Tebow and Harvin in the backfield and run an offense for which there is no tape. The less they use Leak as a drop back passer, the better the Gator's chances.Florida has taken a big hit on defense this year and Ray McDonald may try to play but he's bound to be limited already playing out of his best position by being forced inside when Thomas was booted from the team. Troy Smith will find that the DEs Harvey and Moss can get to him and he'll have to adjust to that, which shouldn't be a problem because the Gators CBs Reggie Lewis and Ryan Smith can't hang with the Bucks receivers IMO. But safety Reggie Nelson is a bada$$ and their LBs in Everett and Siler are better than the LBs Michigan has. Florida has nothing to lose and they know it, so if they stick around they'll smell blood.
