Bengals and Panthers...yikes

I actually have to continue to disagree about one crucial point: I keep hearing -- as I do in this article -- about how the Bengals don't match up well with the Panthers.

On the subject of our o-line versus their d-line, that's certainly true. But then again, few teams are going to win that particular matchup, eh?

They have a good WR corps headed by Steve Smith, certainly one of the best in the league. However, that matches up against our secondary, which is by far the strength of the D. The Bengals have also done a better job of pressuring the QB this season than last, and Carolinas o-line, while getting better, is vulnerable. How this all isn't a good matchup, I dunno.

As for the run D, yes, the bengals have issues, but Carolina's run game is only average. Especially if Dexter returns, this looks like a wash to me.

On the other side. the Carolina run D is also just average, another wash versus our struggling run O. Thier pass defense, fueled by their front four, is a definite point in carolina's favor.

In sum, that looks like one point for the good guys, one point for the bad guys, and a couple pushes.

We can win this. :bengal:

I hate to say it (and I hope that I am wrong) but I have to pick against the cats for the first time in 2 years. It doesn't look like Jeanty and Jackson are going to return, so we can look forward to another round of KK and Miller getting stiff-armed or steamrolled. Even a subtle improvement on the OL will probably not be enough to get Carson & Chad out of their funks. I love that Chris Perry is returning, but now it looks like Chad will be limited, no squirrel, no Tab, no Henry...ouch! Not to mention the fact that they suck at home for some damn reason.

They may have a chance if they go to max protect, find the damn TE's and use Perry out of the backfield and slot. I also hope they are smart enough to tell Joseph that his only job is to mirror Steve Smith. If I see Tory James on Steve Smith one on one, my dog better not be around...

No, it will probably be a LB or DE singled up in an attempt to confuse and throw the Panthers offense into fits of indecision and inability to choose amoung all the options available since there will be so many of them. :P

Still a preview of Super Bowl 41 for me. :bengal:

Steve Smith will get his this game but DeShaun Foster shouldn't. The speed and depth of the LBs in coverage should cause some problems for Delhomme who I expect to throw 35 times. The Panthers would have a whole other dimension on offense with a healthy DeAngelo Williams but fortunately the Bengals might catch at least 1 break this week.

This is Brat's chance to shine as a coordinator. There has to be some of the wrinkles we sawe early in the season to put the Panthers D on their heels as much as possible. It will take a Herculean effort by the Bengals O-line to keep Carson standing all game but I expect a giant's stride of improvement by them this week.

Surprises I hope for are at least 1 big return by Chatman, who has flashed that he can do it. Another less surprising surprise would be a multiple sack game again by Justin and Jumpy Jr. w/ hopefully a crucial turnover in the mix off their pressure.

Bengals 27

Panthers 24

Heard something on the radio I really agree with. They said if Palmer has to throw the ball 27 times or more, the Bengals are in big trouble. The way we are going to win this game is to get the running game going. That will slow down the pass rush, will open up the passing game with more men in the box, and will keep Steve Smith off of the field.

If we get behind early, and force Palmer to win this game, the DE's will pin their ears back, and it's going to be a long day. RUDI - RUDI - RUDI!!! Oh, and Chris Perry too. I want to see 30+ rushes today, and Rudi for well over 100 yards. Today's the day to prove yourself O-Line!

Palmer got a lot more practice today than anybody hoped he would get, I imagine. He's still making some crap throws but he took a small step closer to what he was last year and it looked like his head has been pulled at least halfway out of his rump now.

Yikes was right though. This game could've gotten very ugly for the Bengals very fast given their total ineptitude on offense to start with. It could've easily been 28-0 at the half.

Hey, Hey, Hey! Wasn't that Landon Johnson single coverage on Smith? Woa, Nellie! Radio said that he had awesome coverage and Steve made a miraculous catch!

Landon Johnson had no clue the ball was coming. The ball just whent over his head into Smith's arms. Nothing amazing about it, except that Johnson had no clue it was there.

I just want to know if Jet23's dog is okay. Has anyone sent the rescue squad?

Wow was I wrong on this one. Palmer threw the ball almost 40 times, we rushed the ball only 30 times, and Palmer still had time to throw, and we held on to the ball almost 10 minutes longer than they did. Slow first quarter, but such a great 2nd half more than made up for it.
