derekshank
We need a video of his new sack.... is his old oneAgree with keeping Brooks on the field, he looked very good... I'm still wanting to see Odell pull his head out and create a LB corps to be FEARED !!!WHODEY !!!Agreed, you guys think Odell could move too WLB?Odell WLB-Brooks MLB pollack SLB would be super sexy.I still think Odell is done here... but I understand your need to fantasize. Based on what I've seen the last 2 weeks though, I'm in complete agreement that it's time to move Simmons back to the WS, and give Brooks the middle. The future is now... and it's looking pretty bright.Landon Johnson is a great back-up for a breather, because he's got experience playing all 3 spots, so it just seems to make the most sense to me. We'll see what happens. Maybe the coaches were just waiting to see if he was a one week wonder. He wasn't... and he's too explosive to leave on the bench. Kazkal
Preatty much though If we could I'd trade him for ernie simms What are top WLB's in next years draft?
rwalling
What's not to like about a guy who seizes his chance and plays well enough you can't take him back off the field?Leave him in the middle, keep Landon on the field somewhere and choose between Miller and Simmons (neither optimal, both serviceable). schweinhart
The Bengals got an interesting call here to make. Clearly Brooks has shown he's a force in the middle but when it comes to facing a team like the Falcons w/ so much speed in Vick, Dunn and Norwood, can he stay there? He's going to see a lot of zone blocks if he does and run blizting like he has been doing could leave some serious open areas in the middle of the field. They might want to play a MLB w/ more experience and patience for this one. But he has certainly played his way onto the field and makes it really hard for the Bengals to do anything but keep him going at MLB. In the short term there could be some gaffs but by the end of the regular season, all the reps he gets there are going to make him that much better. SkinneymulleT
DUDE is a FORCE! He can overwhelm an offensive lineman on a inside blitz! How many nfl backers can do that! If pollack comes back and we can bring pressure with these 2 guys from inside and out we will have a bad ass sack attack! He also has a great motor and when he can play down hill he brings major wood(both to me and the opponent)! His speed is great for a backer his size(not odell speed but much more agile then pollack), as he appeared much fast than landon or calib yesterday. BTW landon johnson looked terrible! he was out of position, failed on a number of times to look up the reciever in his zone when he dropped and often got blocked down field when he should have been filling! Is he injured? I am a fan of his but man CALIB looked better than him yesterday.
ShulaSteakhouse
Yeah gotta keep Brooks inside - gives you so much more than Simmons can there...bigger, faster, better. Times those middle blitzes so well - although teams will figure him out on film - it forces them to account for him and frees up other guys one-on-one like Geathers, who was just a monster yesterday. The defense's improvement the last two games and him being the MLB is no coincidence. Really does a commanding job of controlling the middle of the field and not getting blocked out of things like Simmons seems to often. derekshank
For the time being, I like having Simmons and Brooks alternating. It keeps them both fresh.Eventually I'd like to see Simmons move back to WS, but it probably won't happen for several more weeks, if it all this year.Part of the reason Landon hasn't been playing well is that he isn't a SSLB. H can play all 3 LB positions adequately, but he is primarily a WSLB. Jeanty and Pollack being out have forced him to be a starter at a position that he is not really suited for.Once we get Jeanty back, we can get Caleb Miller off the field, and Landon can move back to the WS, and he'll look a lot better... at least for a few weeks until Simmons moves back there (I can hope can't I?) teenbengal14
Did anyone else notice that on the kk pick drive that Simmons was on the field and Brooks wasnt and the panthers drove on us like nothing, plus a huge 15 yard run by Foster that in my opinion Ahmad would have had. Simmons isn't 100% though... so I cut him some slack.
agreen_112
Watching Brooks play on sunday lifted like 500 pounds off my shoulders. I really thought that we didn't have a chance at stopping the run missing Odell. Brooks has made me feel confident that our Defense will be okay, along with the return of Jackson. I'm still not happy with the way Landon Johnson has been playing but I think with Simmons and Jeanty back soon we won't be seeing as much of LJ. Man he looked absolutely terrible yesterday. I've never seen a worse job at defending the pass when Smith went over LJ to catch that pass. Delohme played LJ like a fiddle on that one... HairOnFire
There sure seems to be a lot of love being spurted over a player who only a few weeks ago was being mentioned as a major source of embarrassment due to the Bengals habit of drafting thuggity types. Not that I'm surprised. The boy is a badass. (Told ya') And so is Chris Henry. (Told ya') And so was Odell. (Told ya') And you'll be able to add Rucker to the party when he finally gets a chance to play. (Told ya', but I guess you'll have to wait for the proof.) Back to Ahmad. You can actually hear how good he is just by listening to the sound of his hits. No kidding, two or three times a game he delivers a blow that sounds different...heavier....than nearly every other hit made during the game. BULLDOGG
Haven't been here in a while, but hope to be a regular contributor to the posts......Brooks has been really impressive since he's been inserted in the lineup and I believe that he plays "faster" than the other LB's that we currently have on the roster, which allows him to be involved in more plays. I also like the fact that with his size/strength/speed ratio, you won't see him get engulfed so many times at the point of a attack, like some LB's that we have had in the middle in the past. I can envision a linebacking corp next year of Brooks (MLB), Thurman and Simmons, with Jeanty, Johnson and Miller as serviceable backups, or perhaps Marvin will get his wish next year with a 3-4 look of Simmons, Brooks, Thurman and Jeanty.
