Kazkal
I'm so glad we got him Jackson, Jeanty questionableOctober 11, 2006Posted: 1:10 p.m.JacksonSafety Dexter Jackson (ankle) said Wednesday he thinks it will be a close call and perhaps a game-time decision if he plays Sunday in Tampa. Linebacker Rashad Jeanty (foot), said he’s 50-50. Both are listed as questionable.Head coach Marvin Lewis also indicated Wednesday that the injuries to center Rich Braham (knee) and wide receiver Tab Perry (hip) are still being talked about in weeks. Lewis did say the duo are about to be weaned from their crutches and their situations are moving closer to being clarified. Both are expected to return at some point this season.Jackson, a Super Bowl MVP with Tampa Bay, had been a staple in the middle of its top-ranked defenses, most recently last season. He can’t but help notice the winless Bucs’ struggles on defense, where they have fallen to No. 20.“Look at them now,” Jackson said. “The puzzle that was the main piece of the jigsaw puzzle, it wasn’t really that part. It was other pieces that are missing and now they see that.”Jackson said he’s had phone calls from those observing the ’06 edition of the Bucs in Tampa Bay.“They talk about it. (They say) ‘They miss your leadership.’ Taking nothing away from (Derrick) Brooks and Ronde (Barber). They’re leaders, but to a certain extent,” Jackson said. “I was the person if you weren’t playing good to say, ‘OK guys. Let’s pick it up.’ ”Jackson says the Bucs move not to sign him because of salary cap reasons hurt him, but he says the pain went away when he signed with the Bengals last March in the first week of free agePeople say sam adams was our biggest move in FA but I'd say dexter was. When people said it would be Sam, I think those people expected to see him report to camp in shape. I remember his press conference and being completely geeked about having him in town. So far, seems like mostly talk.I'd definitely say Madieu and Dexter are the most important starters not named Palmer, if only because the depth chart at S is still scary. BengalszoneBilly
Having Dexter was greatThe defense was decidedly better with him playing, no question. I'll greatly welcome his return!
derekshank
Yep. It's like a chain. It's only as strong as its weakest link. If you have a glaring weakness on the defense, offenses are able to exploit that weakness. Last year it was clearly Ohalete. Dexter was a huge upgrade over him. But with him out, KK is our biggest weakness. It's not as bad as Ohalete... but it's bad nonetheless.

He iced the Steeler game for us. And one way or another, he provided the only hightlight from the Patsies games (head shot!). He always seems to play damned hard, and smart too. He just doesn't have the speed. But he ain't Dexter.

Sure, he's had a few problems, but you can't swing a dead cat in the defensive huddle without hitting someone who hasn't boned a few plays this year. HoosierCat
Dexter has proven more of a force on the field that I expected...but the key phrase there is "on the field." Dex has a history of injury struggles; over 8 seasons, including this one, he has played all 16 regular-season games just twice. The good news is that he typically doesn't miss more than 4 or 5 games a year, tops, due to injury, but he almost invariably loses a few. Hopefully, this will be his "glitch" for the year and he'll be able to come back and play all the rest of the season.

When we get Dexter back, there will no longer be a hole in the secondary. We'll have high-quality guys to plug in at every position.
