ArmyBengal
Rudi is to easy to defend against ?? Maybe if the o-line would block worth a sh*t this wouldn't be the issue. Everyone thought the Edge was going to be the difference maker in Arizona this year and look what he has done with an o-line that can't block ---> NOTHING...Rudi pounds the ball and runs the clock. He gets hard yards. STOP COMPARING HIM TO WHAT PERRY (MIGHT) DO FOR US !!!WHODEY !!!
HoosierCat
Does this team miss Chris Perry? Badly. But not because of what he does on the ground, but what he adds as a receiver. And on that note, we miss one Matt Schobel as well.Let's look back to the first four games of '05. Schobel had 4 grabs for 60 yards and a TD, while Kelly and Stewart combined for another 5 catches for 33 yards. This year, the TE position has produced just 69 yards (Kelly and Stewart together are barely equalling Schobel's output) and no points. At RB last season, Chris Perry had 16 catches for 119 yards through the first four games. When it comes to receptions, change-of-pace back Kenny Watson is no Chris Perry. His four-game total of 3 for 33 puts him on pace for career lows in receptions and yards. The Bengals have clearly tried to compensate by calling more tosses to Rudi -- he has 8 catches for 46 yards, which projects out to 32/184, both career highs - but he isn't the receiver that Perry is, either. In sum, the TE and RB positions combined generated 225 yards on 20 catches, and 1 TD, through 4 games last season. Those numbers are 18/148/0 this year.Over the course of all of last season, Chris Perry and Schobel alone generated 554 yards through the air; add in Rudi and that bumps to 644. The Kelly/Stewart/Rudi/Watson collection is on course for 592.So...how much of our problems converting on 3rd downs (we were horrible vs. NE), of Carson holding onto the ball (because perhaps he has no convenient dump-off target), of our o-line struggling because teams can send everyone and not worry about having to defend against a serious pass-catching threat at TE or RB, and ultimately our problems generating points, are the fault of holes at TE and RB?I'd say that's a big contributing factor.Get well soon, Chris. agreen_112
Two Carry Perry is what I have called this particular casher-of-unearned-checks ever since the middle of 2004. Nothing new or silly about it, whatsoever. Because of his glass-like bones and paper-like musculature, we can nver count on him to be healthy, and cannot therefore count on him as Rudi's backup, whch he nominally should be given his position on the depth chart. Becaue of this fragility, he gets paid at a much higher effective rate (salary and bonus divided by numer of games actually played, as opposed to divided by 16+) than he should be. His fragility also forces the bengals to keep an extra running back - Rudi's true backup is this extra player.Talk to me about how great he is when he can consistently get on the field and actually earn his pay.....and it will never (barring injury and resulting desperation) be as a starterTjack, your the biggest hater on this board man.... If you think your so much better lets see your big ass play some football . Perry's the future back. He's got a lot of talent. Look at Tiki Barber before he was a starter, you could've said the same about him. Perry will have a huge impact on this offense once he's back and healthy. Why do you bash our players anyway dude? Have you ever even played football??
TJJackson
If you think your so much better lets see your big ass play some footballI nominate this post as the single dumbest of the year, realizing there are several months yet to go before the year ends.but wait....there's more.....Perry's the future back. He's got a lot of talent. Look at Tiki Barber before he was a starter, you could've said the same about him.So just to clarify - you are comparing an absolute stud of a superstar running back, one of the top 2 or 3 in the entire league at this time, a potential hall of famer, who has at times carried his team's offense on his back, to Chris Two Carry Perry. Yep, I think you just did.

agreen_112
"Look at Tiki Barber before he was a starter, you could've said the same about him." That's pretty simple to understand the comparrisonDodo, What I'm comparing is Tiki's experience to that of Perry's. Tiki battled injuries early in his career too. Plus he was not the starter! He had a chance to start, played big, and has been the starter ever since. Yeah Perry may not be as talented as Barber, but we don't know that yet. What are u suggesting, that Perry's a bum? If that's the case you should feel the same way about Pollack too. He's hurt, hasn't proved anything yet, and held out missing all of camp.Just admit your a HATER! DontPushMe
I know he was called two carry after his rookie year, but i figured that nickname would go away since it no longer makes any sense. This would be like, Carson '3rd string' Palmer, and Rudi '0 Carry' Johnson, and Chad '1 TD' Johnson. I guess im wasting my time, you're probly too thick headed to ever understand any of this. Here Ive got a good one, how about Tab "Get mike brown out of the draft room" PerryBTW, we keep 4 RBs total between HBs and FBs, that is average, i doubt you'll find any teams carrying less. Even the chargers with LT and Turner carry 4 RBs.I guess i dont have to say much, agreen is making you look like a fool too
schweinhart
The Bengals best bet would be to run SUPERSTAR as a 3rd WR in the slot and use him in a split backfield w/ either another RB or TE that allows one to go out and one to stay in. But as a RB, Perry has shown he is ineffective vs. 3-4 defenses and apparently unable to cut once and go -- instead resorting to his patented housefly hop which leads him everywhere except for downfield. And as a blitz blocker, Perry has shown willingness but he's not very good at it. No doubt though the Bengals will waste whole series with the SUPERSTAR package once again to try to prove once again that Perry should be out on the field in any other capacity than a receiver. But against a prevent with the Bengals down 2 scores or in the 2 minute offense, Perry is definitely the man in a single back set. He did prove that last year and that's a good weapon to have to try to get back into ballgames or score from a long field with time dwindling. skyline
I've been pleased with Rudi this year, and don't really see the need to make Chris Perry the starter yet. Let's at least let him get through a season as a backup without getting hurt! That said, we really really miss the guy, and I can't wait to get him back. He adds another dimension, for sure. belmontbengal
Vote for ridiculous thread of the week.I second the motion!Thirded...Seriously, Rudi is far from the reason we lost to NE. Perry will be great to have back, but to suggest Perry should get the lion's share of the carries for this team is, frankly, ludicrous. I do like the idea of using him in the slot sometimes tho...he is definitely a threat in the passing game and we can always use that!
