Dadraftnick
We have injuries galore, the hardest schedule in the NFL,and people picking us to win the Super Bowl(pressure)Question :With all that we have fighting against us(injuries, schedule, expections suspensions) and all of the things that we have to deal (moving around the line, arrests ,ect) is this the straw that breaks the camel's back? This is ,a major distraction for sure.Last year the Colts were undefeated until Tony Dungy's son died.It seemed to take something out of the entire team. While this is not on that level, Odel was loved by the team and the centerpiece of the defense. Will this be enough of a distraction that it affects the team play or will it be the thing turns around the the guys with character issues (like Crime Spree Henry)?Personality theory says that people do not change enless they have a significant emotional event. Is this what it takes to make some of the guys realize that playing in the NFL is a privilage? Will it change the way Marvin coaches ,will he get tougher? Kazkal
I dont see how it will be distraction for a team when he wasen't even on the field.
jditty47
wont hurt. pollacks injury hurt. we already knew odell wasnt gonna get back in the starting lineup right away so he'll hardly even be missed. next year we'll have great depth though, if odell doesnt f**k up again that is and get a lifetime ban or something stupid. ArmyBengal
If all the other stuff that everyone claimed to be the "be all" and "end all" of the Bengals didn't matter, then I say, who the hell cares about anything else at this point ?? I mean really, who the hell cares ?? 3-0 and 2-0 in the Division... How about we just be happy and say thank you to the Bengals players NOT f*cking up ??WHODEY !!! Stripes
Bengals Team Soda machine out of "Orange" Flavor!CAN THIS BE THE END???? No, this won't be a big deal at all. This incident in no way compares with the death of Dungy's son, and Odell was already suspended! We're 3-0! Be happy!

HoosierCat
I dunno if I'd call this a "major distraction," but it certainly has the potential to become one, especially with it also involving, if only peripherially, Henry and McNeal. Certainly, it's eating up internet bandwith and sports talk radio airtime! And it's been a major buzzkill on what ough to have been a sunny post-Pitt-victory Monday.Marvin moved very quickly, very forcefully, and very vocally today -- a huge departure from the normal Bengals reaction to incidents like this ("No comment, let the courts take care of it," etc.). And I think he did that to make sure it doesn't linger and become a distraction.So...bring on the Pats! Corey Dillon sucks!
HairOnFire
Dadraftnick, check your glass. At 3-0 it's not only more than half full....it's overflowing. And speaking of overflowing, check your diaper, too. That brown stuff you're sitting in is negativity, and judging from every post you write I'd say you've got a pantload. aaronburr
Probably shouldn't compare this to Dungy's son dying, but you could compare it to the Vikings' bye-week cruise last week. And they didn't spend the off-season talking about players getting arrested, suspended, etc.Too early to throw in the towel, but this will be a test. Especially if we don't win next week. derekshank
Really? Comparing us to the Vikings of last year? They started the season 1-4, had something hanging over many of their heads, and the head coach was worried about being fired (which he was). The Bengals are 3-0. The off-field distractions of Henry haven't caused any negative on-field results. Odell hasn't played a down this season, and we aren't sure he ever was going to anyway. We overcame Palmer's knee injury and have played with passion and vision. I don't see why Odell getting arrested for drinking too much is going to cause a negative reaction in the on-field production. It just doesn't really make any sense. This is just another case of Bengal fans being frustrated with character issues on the team. While I share this frustration, I don't confuse it with how the Bengals play the actual game of football. They clearly don't have all that much overlap.
DesperateDerelict
I don't think Odell was scheduled to play a major role this year - he was a luxury the team can afford to do without. However, IF (in capital letters) Chris Henry's mobile vomit-torium comes back to haunt the play-maker, that would (not could - WOULD) have severe repurcussions. Right now our biggest asset is 3 recievers that would be #1 on 28 teams in the league - our 3 reciever sets give opposing DC's nightmares. If Henry is discipli9ned about this, then the DUI in Clermont county becomes strike two (or 3 or 4) and the Bengals offense is much more pedestrian.I don't know about straws breaking camel backs, but suspensions break-up successful offensive formations. HoosierCat
Now your talking about Henry being suspended..... Jesus, man wtf??It isn't an issue of him being suspended right now, it's one of him being jailed. One of the conditions of his bond in the pendin Covington minors-and-booze case was the judges order to stay away from alcohol. If the local authorities wanted to be d*cks they could drag him in for violating the terms of his release. I don't expect that to happen, but Henry is doing nothing to help himself these days. in9itrust
I don't think anything of these "distractions". Odell was never one because he hasn't played at all. (our run D is suffering but hey, we're 3-0). Expectations are good for the most part. Not only the fans, but the TEAM expects to win every game. Injuries aren't a problem, we have plenty of depth.Everybody be happy!

Jesus, man wtf??It isn't an issue of him being suspended right now, it's one of him being jailed. That's not entirely true either... I mean, yes, he could be jailed... but he could also be suspended. http://bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5513Goodell emphasized he’s going by the book. Asked at Wednesday’s news conference if he would be inclined to be a tough enforcer, he said, "I believe in rules and I believe they should be enforced, consistently and fairly, not only among the 32 clubs but among the players. I do believe we need to hold the NFL to a higher standard, and I think we are expected to be at a higher standard, and I think that's the good news and the bad news. I expect to maintain that high standard."Precedent suggests a suspension of one or two games, but Henry still could just get fined a slew of game checks.Goodell said the Henry case has yet to cross his desk, but he is expected to rule sooner rather than later this season and if his talk with the team Wednesday morning is any indication, he’s going to guard the image of the NFL. Henry is skating on thin ice with both the league and the law.
