Hey, Henry is on probation and ordered to NOT drink. Probation violation? Already addressed and I missed it because the zillion quote in quote posts?

Lance is talking about it, but all the comments that I have heard generally are that Odell was the only one cited. It is not even official that Henry was present, just "reported by a witness at the scene." So could be mistaken, but in any event, I do not think that anyone can do anything if Henry was not directly cited.

Actions speak louder than words.

3:30 p.m.

Expressing disappointment at the club's off-field issues, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday he expects Odell Thurman to be suspended by the NFL for the rest of the season.

Thurman, already under a four-game suspension for drug problems, was arrested early Monday for driving while impaired.

Lewis wasted no time taking away Thurman's locker, and replacing him with guard Kyle Takavitz.

Lewis also said that center Rich Braham (knee) will be out some games beyond the Oct. 8 bye, and that safety Dexter Jackson (ankle) has a chance to return to play against his old mates in Tampa Bay Oct. 15. Also out for the Patriots game this Sunday is wide receiver Tab Perry (hip), but Lewis hopes to have a better handle on his situation after the bye.

He also had encouraging news on running back Chris Perry (ankle), eligible to return to practice after the Tampa game. Lewis said it looks like he won't need to be shelved long before he gets into a game.

"It's disappointing for me, it's disappointing for our program, all of our fans," Lewis said. "He just obviously doesn't understand the privilege and the right to play in the National Football League. He will be dealt with very severely.

By the way I understand the NFL's substance abuse policy, there is 3 stages. Odell is already in stage 2 (which he'll be in for at least 2 years). If they do see this dui as a violation then he would be upgraded to stage 3 (which there is no time limit, and the player will stay in this level for the rest of his career). This does not include a penalty of suspension for 1 year. If he were to make a mistake in the stage 3, then he would be looking at a 1 year suspension. Now this is from a statement I read about the SAP; "but moreover, the use of alcohol may be prohibited for individual players in certain situations where ""clinically indicated"" in accordance with the terms of this Policy." I don't think this is a violation b/c he hasn't been clinically indicated as an alcoholic and doesn't abuse the substance of alcohol to get by. I think the only way a player could get into trouble for drinking is if he were to actually be an alcoholic and come to practice or better yet a game drunk...

Marvin said he expects Odell to be suspended for the year. He has already taken away his locker. He had harsh words for Odell.

Well, let me say this.

I'm usually one that will wait to see the circumstances before I attack a player for his actions. Could it have been he was at a local bar with two players, talking about the game, he got a call that his woman was in serious trouble and took off?

I don't suspect many of you will sit back and wait to see what happens. I just know there have been situations where I made incredibly horrible choices but felt at the time that I needed to do it because it must have been done.

I'm not defending Thurman. But I'm not going to rip the guy because I just don't know what he did was stupid, or something he desperately had to do because he felt it was, in his mind, what must have been done.

Let the league, team, law and Odell deal with this. I am basking in my joy e-mailing Steelers co-workers just how bad that loss was for them.. I'm having a GREAT time.

Very true kirk,It's funny how some people who love henry are ready to sell out odell because of short memorys... if he came back week 5 and played awesome everyone would be all over his sack again just like they are on henrys now....

The arrest couldn't have come at a more inopportune time for the Bengals, who went into Heinz Field on Sunday and humbled the Pittsburgh Steelers. The fact that a carload of players were out celebrating the victory by getting blotto (we can only presume that no one in the car was sober, since common-sense suggests that the sober one would have been driving) strongly suggests that coach Marvin Lewis still has a loooooong way to go before he gets some of his guys to understand the difference between acceptable and unacceptable off-field conduct.

Wow! so you can't drink now?I understand drinking well driving but Knocking people because they freaking drink? How many fans are fing wasted at games o_O (from pft btw)

Poeple are upset BECAUSE they love Thurman, they love the way he plays and the Bengals need him.

They are upset because he new the rules and for a job that pays millions and has a lot of fringe benefits like fame , women, a chance to win the Supper Bowl, ect., all he has to do is abide by the rules. He is too stupid or cheap to pay a few bucks for a cab or limo.

My brother is a comercial driver if he gets in a accident (even if it not his fualt),has a speeding ticket, or a moving violation he can be fired because of the price the of insurance to the company.A DUI would get him fired for sure.He has harder rules to live by than most of us but, its part of the job.

NFL players have rules that they must live by if they want to play .

I just think that living by rules that the rest of scioety lives by is not too much to ask out of these guys.If not for themselves for the team, the fans, the money, women, for something.

People have got to stop making excuses for the screw ups. I love Thurman I just want him on the field and it makes me sick to think he might be gone for the rest of the season because of stupidity.

You really sound sincere, but what makes you think that he will be gone the rest of the year? Nothing will happen untill the season is over. I can see a fine or maybe a one game suspension next year. The Dui trial won't be for at least another 3 or 4 months, then the NFL will act on the conclusion to the trial. Doesn't the CBA state that the NFL won't make any decisions until the player is convicted of a felony crime? Odell doesn't have any other pending cases in which a felony was committed, so I don't see the big deal. This has nothing to do with the Substance Abuse Policy.

I was never the best at science. But with Odell in the substance abuse policy wouldn't alcohol be a "substance" this is easily a violation and HE CAN be suspended for a year

WOW!

From DROY to losing your locker to a PS quality guard in an offseason and three games!

Think he's gotten Odell's attention yet?

I know others have mentioned this, but based on some of ML's words and actions, it seems clear that ML knows much more than we do about the severity of Odell's drug problems over the summer than we do.

He's sending him a last message, straighten you ass up or you going to be shipped out. Marv aint going to cut him, there's no way. He'll play oct 15, definitely won't start, but he'll be out there!

Here's a good update:

"Just a misunderstanding," McNeal said, as he left Paul Brown Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The arrest is "certainly a concern since he recently was suspended, but this is an entirely new case," Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said Monday.

Did you read that correctly, this is an entirely new case! See ya on the field soon O-dawg. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2601900

When I read this the first time I did not think that he gave a good explanation on why he was not at practice.

He was embarased?

I could not belive that Marvin was allowing him to sit out ,maybe Marvin has been too easy on him, maybe there was little he could do.

If you read the whole article you get the feeling that he wants you to feel sorry for him(maybe thats something he has used to get by his whole life) and he talks like he will be in the Hall of Fame but,(at least the first time I read it) I got the feeling that he would never be back.

Odel Thurman -"I just don't want to end up a sad case, you know? ,he is a sad case,I dont feel sorry for him, I feel sorry for the Bengals organization, his teamates, and the Bengals Fans.He got what he warned of over and over again would happen. He has no one to blame but himself.

He also may of taken Chris Henry down with him or Henry(crime spree) may taken him down with himself, either way it a stupid way to throw away a career.

"It's disappointing for me, it's disappointing for our program, all of our fans," Lewis said of Thurman. "He just obviously doesn't understand the privilege and the right to play in the National Football League. He will be dealt with very severely."

According to Fox 19, Thurman, 23, failed a breathalyzer at a checkpoint on Kellogg Avenue in Cincinnati and had a "high-tier" reading that is described as at least .17, or twice the legal limit..

Since Thurman is currently under a four-game suspension, he is in stage two of the substance abuse program, according to the league's policy. It's not known what the requirements of his treatment program are but any violation moves him to stage three and eligible for a one-year suspension that Lewis referenced.

But since there has been only an arrest and not a decision by a court, any resolution may have to wait. But Lewis made it clear he's moving on beyond Thurman. At least for this season

"No," when asked if he had talked to Thurman or planned to talk to him.

Wow! Really? You really believe he'll dress for this team this year? I gotta say no freaking way and I'll be shocked if he ever plays for the Bengals again. If I'm overreacting sorry -- but after living with this for several months, I just can't see any way the team lets him back in. Sad really -- I keep replaying the scene of him leaving PBS after the playoff saying basically "we'll be back." Man, what a waste.

Did you read that correctly, this is an entirely new case! See ya on the field soon O-dawg. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2601900

Being an "entirely new case" isn't a good thing in the context of being on suspension. It would have to be a separate case that gets him suspended for the year. I tend to think that will be announced soon.

Two other extremely interesting sound bites:

"He just obviously doesn't understand the privilege and the right to play in the National Football League. He will be dealt with very severely."

(Maybe he needs to talk to Maurice Clarett, Dennis Weathersby or David Pollack about the privelege of playing in the league that can be lost for reasons self-inflicted or accidental.)

"No," when asked if he had talked to Thurman or planned to talk to him.

Given the relationship they had last year, this seems particularly tough love. Maybe it shows how far Odell has fallen into his problems.

Ever plays for the Bengals again??? Dude, lighten up its a freakin DUI. I believe it 100%, absolutely all of you haters will be wrong.

Just because somebody doesn't interpret these things the same way as you do doesn't mean they're wrong. We shall see. Rest assured, nobody hates Odell. We hate what he's doing to his chances to be a part of this team. I will absolutely stand by my call. I think he's done as a bengal. You apparently think he'll suit up on Oct. 15th -- we shall see.
