duus
Not sure if you guys heard this, but this topic apparently got some press after the Miami game. I don't know a ton about it, but apparently Miami came with the right sort of cleats for the type of turf, while, believe it or not, many believe the Steelers did not. In any case, this is one of those 'little' things that could be very important ... especially knowing the weather may be rainy, or at least following a nice all-day rain on Saturday. Here's some information I was able to dig up:"My biggest beef with Cowhard was the undeniable pure fact that nearly the entire team was wearing the wrong type of cleats during this tilt. Ike Taylor slipped at least 17 times. Holmes slipped about 5 times; Parker at least 9 times, including a wide run in the 4Q in which he slipped without a defender even touching him; Nate slipped about 4 times; Ty Carter slipped on the 52-yard gainer by Booker; and so on. Yes, Heinz Field is the worst field in the NFL, but Miami players weren't skating around on ice like the Men in Black were. For Pete's sake, this is absolutely sickening at this level of football. Yes, you can lay blame on the equipment manager as well, but the buck stops directly at the desk of the mega-millionaire head coach."I would love to find out what type of cleats the Dolphins came in with. I truly hope our team's coaches have dug into this. Also, from a Post-Gazette article:Post-Gazette Post-Game ArticleA slippery issueThe Steelers looked as if they were playing on Chiquita Field rather than Heinz Field Thursday night because players slipped so often.Cowher noticed that and the fact that the Miami Dolphins did not seem to have that kind of trouble with their footing, and he talked to his players about it."I brought it to their attention," Cowher said. "Hopefully, it will be something that will be rectified in the future."In other words, he wants his players to wear the proper shoes with cleats of an appropriate length for the field conditions. ArmyBengal
It's hard to believe that any player wouldn't bring multiple cleats to be able to account for any type of weather... But then again, who knows ??WHODEY !!!
duus
1.25+ inches of rain expected in downtown Pittsburgh between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. The turf there is bad enough, and with it being wet, it will be that much harder to run on. I hope these guys do bring the necessary equipment. Obviously, not everyone does, so I thought it worth mentioning.

I suppose it does sound pretty stupid afterall. Might just be another example of Cowher not having his guys (staff) prepared in details where all others do. Its funny, I remember mentioning all the slip-sliding going on in the fins game. Well, no one ever said that the Steelers pick players based on their brains... Tasher
Didn't seem to have any impact on the outcome though. Pit got the W.
bengalboomer7
Cleats can make a big difference, this is not a big deal, but it is something to be aware of. I wouldn't blame the coach, like squeelers do. This falls on the equipmnet manager, cuz their's no way players bring their own cleats to the game. their probably taken care of at the facility. If there's one thing Pittsburgh has done right this year, it's been shutting up the pundits about Culpepper and the damned Dolphins.
