Spor_tees
Still at least 1 more to go at LB:The release of Navies, an eight-year veteran who signed with Cincinnati 364 days ago off the waiver wire, leaves the club with eight linebackers eligible for this Saturday’s cut down to 53 players at a position where they usually keep seven. The three starters - Brian Simmons in the middle, David Pollack on the strong side, Landon Johnson on the weak side - are already in. Also figured to make it are two rookies, a third-round supplemental draft pick in Ahmad Brooks and Rashad Jeanty, a CFL product that has played well in the place of the injured Pollack. That appears to leave two spots for veterans Caleb Miller and Marcus Wilkins and fifth-rounder A.J. Nicholson while middle linebacker Odell Thurman starts the season on the suspended list and does not count on the final roster. With Miller getting the start last night in place of Simmons, you have to think his chances look good. Wilkins is hard to cut given his strong ST play, esp. with other key STers like Navies and Mitchell out of the picture. I still think they may cut Nicholson and hope he clears waivers so they can sign him to the practice squad. With Jeanty and Kilmer playing tough on ST's, I think they can afford to cut Wilkins and keep all the young players
jditty47
ya my vote is for wilkins unfortunately. i think they have to risk taking the rookie nicholson now and then PS'ing him when odell gets back. they cant PS wilkins once that happens and they would have to cut him then... Wilkins is hard to cut given his strong ST play,But if it's between miller and wilkins miller has been just as good at ST and also works his way in to starting lineup when the chance is given (showing marvin still things hes worthy of being more then a special teamer)I'd say the last spot is between AJ & wilkins then when odell comes back either keep 8, or cut who ever was keeping his spot warm,if no LB was injured in first 4 games

But I'm a bit leery of counting on Caleb because of his injury history, and I'm just not sold on Nicholson at this point. He was supposed to be a borderline day 1 pick who slipped because of off-field issues. Given that he's been put in late in the preseason games against the other teams' 3rd and 4th string types, you would expect him to stand out. Yet while he's a made a play or two he hasn't been a "wow."
TJJackson
I think Miller or Nicholson get cut, albeit they'll want Nicholson on the Practice Squad if they can get him thereI think Wilkins make it on special teams performance alone. Edogger
CBSSportsline.com reported that Hannibal Navies (LB) and Steven Vieira (OG) were the last two that were cut to get the roster to 75 men.CBS SportslineNEVERMIND...I Just noticed the description in the other topic. Kazkal
Caleb led the team in ST's when he returned last year for the games he was back.I like wilkins if we wearn't so deep at LB and with some of our LB's dinged up / out for 4 games we need ones who actually can play defense rather then just special teams. slf
2 down, 22 to go. the big cutdown is Saturday after the Colts game when they need to cut down to the regular season roster of 53 players. So most of your observations on who may have gone today will still be very valid on Saturday too
